What is IELTS?

IELTS, the International English Language Testing System, is designed to assess the languageability of candidates who need to study or work where English is the language ofcommunication.

The IELTS is taken by students and professionals from non-English speaking countries seeking towork or study in a country where the medium of instruction is English. IELTS is accepted byUniversities in UK, Australia, New Zealand and Canada.

There are 2 versions of the test:1. Academic Module2. General Training Module

The Academic Module is usually for people wanting to follow an Academic Course in English andthe General Training Module is usually for people wanting to follow a non-academic course orfor immigration

IELTS has four parts –

Listening 30 minutes Reading 60 minutes Writing 60 minutes Speaking 11–14 minutes

The total test time is 2 hours and 45 minutes. The Listening, Reading and Writing tests are donein one sitting. The Speaking test may be on the same day or up to seven days before or after theother tests.

What is the scoring pattern?

There is no “pass” or “fail” in IELTS. Scores in all four skills are reported on a band-width of 1-9with whole or half bands.The average of all 4 scores is then rounded off and reported in thesame manner. Most Universities and organizations require a band-width of at least above 6.5.

How many times in a year is the IELTS exam held?

The Academic version of the IELTS is available on 48 fixed dates through the year. The General Test is available on 24 dates through the year.

What is the registration fee for IELTS?

In India, the registration fee is currently INR 9300
