Italy has a long and beautiful history that is worth studying, but that’s not possible in 15-20 minutes…. So we’re going to show you some gorgeous monuments!!!
The incredible thing is that also a small town like Busto Arsizio has
some important monuments that are
worth seeing !!!
Ideal meals
Bread, pasta & rice(carbohydrates)
Fruits & vegetables.
Meat & dairy products
Sweets, oil & fats
The Italian diet is based on this pyramid, so it’s often advised for people who
want to lose weight or want to have a balanced diet
Why the pyramid?
• This is the ideal diet because if a person eats in this way, she/he will consume the correct portion of vitamins, carbohydrates, sugar, fats, and so on!
• Obviously this diet should be united with physical exercise!
Breakfast
In Italy we usually have breakfast with a cup of milk, tea, coffee or cappuccino (a typical Italian drink made of milk & coffee) and biscuits or croissant. We are not used to eat eggs, bacon or foods like that.
Usually we have breakfast at home, but a lot Italian people also have it in a
bar.
Lunch time
Lunch is the second most important meal in the Italian diet. Mostly in the past, people used to eat for lunch a plate of pasta or meat/fish with vegetables. Nowadays always more people for time and work reasons eat only a sandwich or a snack.
Usually Italian people have lunch at work or in the school canteen,
sometimes also in bar or in restaurants… Seldom we have lunch
at home!
Dinner
Dinner is the most important meal in the day… We usually eat pasta, meat/fish with
vegetables or pizza. (In base of what we ate for lunch)
Italian people usually have dinner at home with all the family in the
kitchen or in the dining room… For dinner we usually seat at the same table and we speak about what is
happened during the day.
Italian healthy food
• In Italy there are a lot of healthy food such as pasta, pizza, but all depends on the sauce!
• One of the most healthy and popular food is “mozzarella alla caprese”… a tipical dish made by italian mozzarella, fresh italian tomatoes and italian oliven oil (and if you want some fresh leaves of basil)!
How we eat
• For eating we are used to using a fork, knife, spoon (and a little spoon or fork for the dessert).
Here there is our wide range of cutleries!!!
Where we eat
• In our home we usually eat in the kitchen or in the diving room. Here there are two examples!
Who do we eat with?
In Italy we love to eat while we are sitting with the family or friends all around the same table, but nowadays life has introduced some problems… We have always more appointments and things to do, so we often have to eat a sandwich, while we are walking, or something in a café or in the school canteen.
… but nowadays with the globalization and the arrival of new kind of diet new problems, such as obesity, are increasing!
The Mediterranean diet that has always been used in Italy is a balanced diet, so the population doesn’t have big problems
...but there is another basic problem: anorexia! In Italy, even more people are influenced by fashion that promotes models undersize and even more girls and sometimes boys fall in this problem…
EASTER
Easter is the most important religious feast of the Christian liturgical year,
observed at some point between late March and
late April each year (early April to early May in Eastern Christianity),
following the cycle of the moon. It celebrates the resurrection of Jesus
Easter’s meal: first plate & side dish
The Easter’s meal is a good occasion to have a lunch with the whole family. Like every Italian lunch every Italian family has a first and a second plate, the first plate usually is tortellini cooked in meat or vegetable soup. In some families people eat firstly red radicchio as side dish.
Easter’s meal: second plate
What do you think we usually eat as second plate at Easter?
a) Bull or cow.
b) Donkey or horse.
c) Duck or goose
d) Kid or lamb.
Easter’s meal: second plate
LAMB KID
We usually eat lamb or kid because they are symbols of Jesus Christ.
Easter’s meal: Colomba
After the second plate we usually have a special cake, named Colomba.
What do you think this cake represents?
a) Dove
b) Eagle
c) Monkeybird
d) Sparrow
EASTER’S MEAL: COLOMBAThat’s a dove!
Dove is the symbol of the Holy Spirit!
In fact on Easter morning in Florence is tradition to let fly a dove from the tower bell of the doom.
But there is also another popular sweet that is really particoular…
THE CHOCOLATE EGG
Nowadays is become popular in Italy to give a chocolate egg as a gift to relatives and friends. The peculiarity of this special egg is that inside of the chocolate egg there is a surprise and everybody, above all kids, looks forward to opening the egg to know which surprise is hidden inside it.
TRADITIONAL DIET
Then lunch and dinner are quite similar; there is always pasta at least in one of them.
You have to know that in Italy we usually have two courses.
Pasta or rice (sometimes soup) Meat or fish with vegetables or cheese
Finally we eat fruit. As snack in the morning we drink coffee and in the afternoon we eat sweets or fruit.
A typical italian day starts with a breakfast, usually milk or
cappuccino with biscuits.
EATING HABITS
I think italian eating habits are quite healthy, in fact we
eat a lot of fruit and vegetables and our diet is various.
This means that we have a good proportion among
proteins, vitamins, carbohydrates.
On the other hand we could do better. We don’t exactly follow the meditterean diet because we eat few legumes and fibre; for this reason we should eat brown bread and brown pasta.
MEAL ATMOSPHERE
I’m going to describe one dinner at home. That’s the only meal my parents
and I eat always together.
The atmosphere is quiet and relaxing.
We usually speak about our day, what has gone good and what bad.
But we have the “bad” habit to eat with tv switched on, thus we watch it and
we freely comment what is going on.
FOOD AWARENESS
I’m not really interested in what I eat,
in fact I’m not used to controlling my food.
Maybe because I trust my mother;
she usually goes shopping and I know
she only buys garanteed or brand food.
FOOD CHOICE
Until now I haven’t had any health problems,
therefore I’m quite satisfied of the food I eat.
In fact I try to vary my diet even if I know
that I should eat more fruit and vegetables
because they are rich in vitamins.
I’m at school and I’m attending the lessons… At 10.00 and at 12.00 I will have a break and
eat some snacks!
That’s lunch time…. I go to the school canteen to eat
something! (that could sound strange, but my
school canteen has a wide range of foods!)…. I only
have to choose!!!
My school day has just finished… I’m quite
tired…. I’m going back home and before
starting homework I’m going to have a quick
snack.
My day has almost finished… it’s dinner time
and finally I’m sitting around the table with my family and we’re going to speak about our day and
relax…
Now I’m going to relax (watch TV, read a book, play, etc) and then I’m
going to bed, waiting for another beautiful day!!!
