Idaho’s labor market slowed in December, with the yearly employment growth rate dropping from 2.4 percent in November to 1.9 percent in December, ranking Idaho 12th in the nation for employment growth. The state’s unemployment rate improved slightly, decreasing from 3.8 percent in November to 3.7 percent in December. The financial industry continued to experience the largest yearly growth for the state, increasing by 7.1 percent from December 2015 to December 2016, representing an addition of 2,400 jobs. Idaho’s housing market also showed signs of cooling with the construction industry only adding 400 jobs for the year (+1.0 percent from December 2015 to December 2016), and the median home sales price dropping from $210,000 in October to $205,319 in November.
