SHARING THE KNOWLEDGE(cont)

• Student Sections receptive to promotion of newer, less traditional skill areas

• Peter Druker:

Distance learning & vetting bok

• Web-based course a mainstay in academic institutions, corporations & societies

• 2 x 4 method of learning replaced by 24/7, multi-media, multi-source method of learning

• JITI – Just in Time Information – knowledge made available when needed in the workplace available on the site

• Communities of Practice (COP) – web-based environments that leverage shared information and provide a forum to network, share information, ask questions and convene, virtually, around a subject, problem or interest.

• Quality control of web information. BOK accreditation by Societies

Beyond engineering

• Shift towards optimisation of resources

• Need to interact beyond the profession – eg Mechatronics, Nanoengineering, Biomedical Engineering, etc.

• Rise of Engineering Management (EMCI)
