About the Conference

The International Conference on Chemical Engineering and Applied Sciences (ICChEAS) 2019 is

a biennial scientific event to accommodate academic and professional communities to

discuss and exchange ideas. Previously, the ICChEAS was known as International Conference on

Chemical Engineering Sciences and Applications (ICChESA), which was held recently in 2017

(http://icchesa.unsyiah.ac.id/). Since its first conference in 2013, it has attracted many scholars,

scientist, experts, practitioners and graduate students from various countries to participate in. This

indicates that the conference is one of the best international scientific events in Indonesia which

provides a platform for chemical engineers, scientists and related academic communities as well as

practical professionals from different countries to discuss research results, share experiences and

exchange ideas.

The ICChEAS 2019 took place in Banda Aceh, the Province of Aceh, Indonesia during 23-24

October 2019 is organized by the Chemical Engineering Department, Syiah Kuala University,

Indonesia together with to the Faculty of Chemical Engineering, Universiti Teknologi MARA

(UiTM) Malaysia, the Department of Chemical Engineering of Riau University (UNRI) Indonesia,

and Vocational School, Diponegoro University (UNDIP) Indonesia. This ICChEAS 2019 theme is

“Strengthen Innovative Chemical Engineering and Applied Sciences in the Digital Age”.

The theme is timely and in line with the UN Sustainable Development Agenda 2030. With a

drastic increase in world population, especially in urban areas, food and energy consumption

increases correspondingly, which consequently will exacerbate the pressure on our world’s

resources and environments. Four current central issues, i.e, increasing population, food, energy,

and resources and environment are challenging aspects in which chemical engineering and applied

sciences and its related disciplines have to play an important role in finding solutions for the

benefit of future generation. Development of green technology, process, products, and energy for

such solutions will generate significant business opportunities and stimulate digitalized

technological innovation and at the same time will ensure sustainable development and preserve

the environment for the next generations.

The objective of the ICChEAS 2019 is to gather the scientists, researchers, scholars, educators,

professionals, and students in different fields of chemical engineering and applied science from

ASEAN and beyond to share knowledge, exchange ideas, and explore possibilities of building

cooperation networking. The 1rst ICChEAS 2019 would become an ideal international platform for

participants to share their knowledge and experiences. Undergraduate, as well as graduate students,

and young participants are encouraged to participate as this would be a unique opportunity to gain

new advances in the fields of chemical engineering, applied science and its related subjects

it is the place where researchers from academic and engineers from industrial sectors can exhibit

their research works to public, gain new knowledge and exchange ideas, and establish new

networking. Hosting international conferences is in line with the policy and strategy of Syiah Kuala

university in terms of promoting outcomes of the research to national and international academic

and industrial communities. In addition, the university also supports its staffs to present his or her

research at international level overseas.

The 1st ICChEAS conference aims at bringing together chemical engineers from Indonesia as well

as from ASEAN and beyond, both in academic and industrial sectors, to share their fundamental

knowledge and recent applications relevant to the field of chemical engineering. I wish that the 1st

ICChEAS will not only become a place to share your research outcomes, but also be a step for

establishing academic cooperation among participant’s institution.

In addition to attending the conference, I encourage you to explore the city of Banda Aceh.

Although it was badly hit by earthquake and tsunami in 2004, toda y the city has fully recovered.

However, you are still able to witness several tsunami remnants around the city. I wish every one

of you a fondest memory of the 1st ICChEAS, an enjoyable time in Banda Aceh, and a safe trip back

home.

Welcome Message from the Head of Chemical

Engineering Department, Syiah Kuala University

Assalamu’alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh,

May the peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be with you,

It is a great pleasure to have you here participating in the International Conference on Chemical

Engineering and Applied Sciences (ICChEAS) 2019.

From historical point view, chemical engineering has successfully played a key role in the

developments of traditional chemical and petro-chemical industries. At present time, modern

society is experiencing a number of threats, including the declining of energy and food supplies

and the deterioration of environment. Consequently, the current and future challenges for the

chemical engineering have to focus among others on the development of green industry with

zero waste, innovations in the developments of new alternative renewable energy resources,

and security of food supply and protection of environment for sustainable development. To

respond to these issues and to develop the science of chemical engineering in a sustainable fashion,

it is necessary that we have to look at the situation in all aspects and take everything into

consideration.

I would like to express my sincere gratitude towards chemical engineering staffs and students as

well as everyone who takes part in making this conference a success. I also would like to

thank you those who joined us. Finally, I wish you all a pleasant time in Aceh, Indonesia.

Welcome Message from the Chairman of the ICChEAS 2019 Assalamu’alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh,

May the peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be with you,

On behalf of the organizing committee, it is a great pleasure and honor, to warm welcome all

participants to the first International Conference on Chemical Engineering and Applied Sciences

(ICChEAS) (1th ICChEAS 2019), held at the Hermes Palace Hotel, Banda Aceh, Indonesia on

23 – 24th October 2019.

To answer the increase of world population and the current over-consumption of the biological

resources with fast production and adaptation to the ever-changing market requests and global

competition, we need radical advances in present manufacturing technology which is called as Industry

4.0. This promising approach is based on integration of the industrial and business processes. Having

these issues in mind, the 1th ICChEAS 2019 conference becomes more timely than ever. Chemical

Engineers and Applied Scientists are now challenged to change the perception from more traditional

automation to a fully connected and flexible production system with the environment protection and

sustainability. Industry 4.0 transforms the industrial manufacturing through digitalization of new

technologies.

This year’s 1th ICChEAS 2019 theme is “Strengthen Innovative Chemical Engineering and Applied

Sciences in the Digital Age”. The conference will bring together researchers and academic experts

in the field of chemical engineering, science and technology to meet, exchange ideas, interact and

discuss the state of art of advanced research, development and technology related to food, energy

and water for in the digital age of Industry 4.0.

Since the beginning, I have received a lot of supports to materialize this conference. I wish to express

my deep gratitude to the Faculty of Chemical Engineering, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM)

Malaysia, the Department of Chemical Engineering of Riau University (UNRI) Indonesia, and

Vocational School, Diponegoro University (UNDIP) Indonesia. But foremost, the success of a

conference relies mainly on organizing committee, national and international scientific committees,

keynote and invited speakers, and all the participants. I therefore would like to thank you all.

Keynote Speaker 2

Dr. Ryosuke Takagi (Prof. Emeritus)

Research Center for Membrane and Film Technology, Kobe University - Japan

Dr. TAKAGI Ryosuke was born on February 10th, 1947. In 1977, he started the study in a membrane field as a

researching staff under the tutelage of Prof. Nakagaki of the graduate school of pharmaceutical sciences, Kyoto

University. His major was the theoretical work relating the modeling of membrane, especially the membrane charge

and the ion flux through charged membrane. He made clear the effect of asymmetric nature of membrane on a

membrane potential and an ion flux (Chem. Pharm. Bull., 32(1984)3812 〜 3823). He first suggested that an

adsorption of ions affected a membrane charge (J. Membr. Sci., 53(1990) 19〜35) and has proposed the advanced

amphoteric membrane model in which the membrane charge is determined by the dissociation of ionic groups of

membrane material and the adsorption of ions (Sep. Purif. Technol., 25 (2001) 369~377). This model has been

widely accepted as a membrane model.

After he moved to Kobe University in 2008, he joined the NEDO project (project number P93048) as a member of

Kobe University to make a tap water from a ground water in Beijing, China, cooperating with Prof. X-L Wang in

Tsinghua University, Beijing Waterworks group, Asahi-kasei Co., Japan, and Astom Corporation, Japan. Since

then, he has engaged to improve a performance of ion exchange membrane, especially anion exchange membrane.

He modified commercial anion exchange membrane with Layer-by-Layer method, and polydopamine and

succeeded to simultaneously improve an antifouling property and a monovalent anion selectivity.
