Online shopping is the process whereby consumers directly buy goods, services etc. from a seller interactively in real-time without an intermediary service over the Internet. If an intermediary service is present the process is called electronic commerce.

The process is called Business-to-Consumer [B2C] online shopping. When a business buys from another business it is called Business-to-Business [B2B] online shopping. Both B2C and B2B Online shopping are forms of e-commerce.

In 1979 Micheal Aldrich, an English inventor connected a modified 26" colour domestic TV to a real-time transaction processing computer via a domestic telephone line and invented online shopping.

The first recorded B2B online shopping was Thomson Holidays 1981 The first recorded B2C online home shopping was Gateshead SIS/Tesco in 1984.

In 1990 Tim Berners-Lee created the first World Wide Web server and browser.

In 1994 other advances took place, such as online banking and the opening of an online pizza shop by Pizza Hut.

In 1995 Amazon expanded its online shopping, and in 1996 eBay appeared.

Payment:- Online shoppers commonly use credit card to make payments, however

some systems enable users to create accounts and pay by alternative means, such as:

Debit card Various types of electronic money Cash on delivery (C.O.D., offered by very few online stores) Cheque Wire transfer/delivery on payment Postal money order Reverse SMS billing to mobile phones Gift cards Direct debit in some countries

Product delivery:- Once a payment has been accepted the goods or services can

be delivered in the following ways.Download: This is the method often used for digital media

products such as software, music, movies, or images.Shipping: The product is shipped to the customer's address.Drop shipping: The order is passed to the manufacturer or

third-party distributor, who ships the item directly to the consumer, bypassing the retailer's physical location to save time, money, and space.

In-store pickup: The customer orders online, finds a local store using locator software and picks the product up at the closest store. This is the method often used in the bricks and clicks business model.

In the case of buying an admission ticket one may get a code, or a ticket that can be printed out. At the premises it is made sure that the same right of admission is not used twice.

Online shopping stores are available 24 hours a day.Searching and browsing an online catalogue can be

faster than browsing the physical store.In online shopping, many site provide how –to guides

to help consumers decide which product to buy.Some online stores have real-time chat features, but

most rely on email or phone calls to handle customer questions.

Consumer can easily compare between the product prices.

Advantages of Online Shopping:

Here you find out a higher risk of fraud.Ensuring that the vendor address is protected with

SSL(Secure sockets layer) when entering credit card information. If it does the address on the credit card information entry screen will start with “HTTPS”.

Some time while buying a product, when all process was completed then the shipping amount never added at that time. We paid upon the delivery. This addition fee we paid with out any previous information.

Privacy is much less on these web sites. Some of the fake online shopping site use the personal information of consumers.

It was a nice experience working on this project. It is based on ASP.NET. It explores many features of .NET like SQL Server, HTML, C#, etc.

This is meant for managing details of product sold .It provides help in maintaining records of product sold which in turn helps the user to know which brands are more demanded and their regular customer. This aims at selling products, maintaining product to be sold. The Admin module is used to store information about products sold and the shop module is used to retrieve information about products from database.
