Customer Newsletter - Issue # 02 - 2010 IBM Retains #1 Rank for Ethical Reputation IBM continues holding its dominant position on the Covalence's EthicalQuote Ranking, an ethical reputation scoring system and CSR news database tracking the world's largest companies. The ranking for quarter 1, 2010 was calculated for 581 multinationals within 18 sectors. This ethical quotation system is a reputation index based on 45 criteria such as labor standards, waste management, product social utility or human rights policy. The system integrates thousands of documents found among media, enterprise, blogs, NGO and other sources. It is a barometer of how multinationals are perceived in the ethical field. Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC) provides electricity to 2.1 million consumers in Karachi. KESC is the only vertically-integrated power utility in Pakistan which manages the generation, transmission and distribution of electricity covering a vast area of 6,000 square kilometers and supplies electricity to all the industrial, commercial, agricultural and residential areas that fall under its network. To enable it's rapid expansion and to revamp it's existing IT systems, KESC decided to roll-out SAP ISU for utilities. To enable the highly complex SAP ISU project, a reliable technology partner was required to ensure smooth running of all systems. After extensive evaluation, KESC selected IBM for it's hardware and software requirements. The hardware includes IBM POWER 7 systems (p750), IBM storage (DS 8700) and IBM Blade centre. KESC additionally selected IBM Tivoli to automate their disk back-ups and SAP data. KESC will also implement IBM Commonstore for SAP which will enable KESC to move their old data onto cheaper storage and hence release the more expensive storage for their latest data. Furthermore, KESC will use IBM Rational software for testing of their applications. IBM was selected due to its superior technology, complete solution offering including software and services, and IBM's comprehensive after sales support. All of these advantages made KESC select IBM to be their reliable infrastructure partner. SBS was the IBM partner who conducted the transaction. KESC Selects IBM for SAP ISU Project In fiercely competitive telecom market of Pakistan, Ufone, with more than 20 million customers, needs to roll out new services swiftly and consistently. Lotus Boot CampLotus Sales Professional Boot Camp was held in Karachi, Pakistan for IBM Business Partnerson 25th & 26th May, 2010. The training focused on the entire Lotus portfolio and how to sell theLotus offerings in today's environment and was attended by sellers from various BusinessPartners including Avanza, Corporits, Royal Cyber and Infotech amongst others.

ICI Pakistan recently selected SAP ERP ECC6.0 solution to be implemented in its PaintsBusiness. Acquired in 2008 by the global paints and coating company AzkoNobel, ICIhas a large manufacturing plant with multiple warehouses and an extensive dealer networkacross Pakistan.

ICI Pakistan, uses SAP ERP solution for all its other businesses and recently decided toimplement SAP in their Paints Business too, replacing the existing legacy solution. IBMwas chosen as it is the leading SAP ERP implementer, with the largest team of experiencedand certified SAP resources on board locally.

Implementation of SAP ERP ECC6.0 will help ICI simplify reporting across complexcorporate structures, improve business processes and assist in better collaboration withsuppliers and customers. It will also accelerate time to market and time to value with morepersonalised products and services, gain speed in operations, deliver higher levels ofservice and enhance customer satisfaction and reduce operating expenses.

ICI Pakistan Selects IBM as theirSAP ERP Implementation Partner

HUBCO Opts for IBM's Maximo forNew Power PlantHubco, the largest independent power provider in the country, is commissioning a newpower plant in Pakistan. IBM is working with them to share a vision of smarter industries,in line with our smarter planet initiative, helping them to manage their assets using IBMEnterprise Asset Management solution, MAXIMO. The company is using Maximo fortheir power plant, facilities (offices, township, vehicles etc.), linear assets (pipes, roads),and IT assets. Hubco has also setup a centralized IBM Service Management platform tomanage their SLAs and KPI Dashboard and are implementing their complete EnterpriseBackup/Recovery strategy on Tivoli storage Manager (TSM).

IBM business partner Peritus, closed this deal.

provides them continuous data protection, disaster

recovery capabilities and at the same time

implementing a solid storage.

The National Investment (Unit) Trust is Pakistan's

largest and oldest Mutual Fund, with approximately

56,000 unit holders. NIT's distribution network

comprises of 19 NIT branches, various Authorized

bank branches all over Pakistan and Arab Emirates

Investment Bank (AEIB) in Dubai(UAE). Its main

storage infrastructure, holds data for their account

holders and supporting servers, manages more than

one terabyte of data, and is growing all the time.

Benefits to NIT:

• Reduces backup data volume by 10:1

• Reduced data backup sets, simplifying

management

• Enables rapid, centrally managed restores

• Improves data availability resulting in potential

cost reductions

served the customer.

Ibrahim Fibres Limited, IFL, chose IBM System x and Storage to run critical applicationsrequired to upgrade it's existing technology platform to run business and infrastructureapplications.

IBM was selected because of IFL's previous experience with stable and efficient IBMtechnology and also significant technical and service advantages over competition. Theplatform will host the mission critical applications for the business to provide robust andstable performance, based on energy efficient technology.

GBM was the IBM business par tner that supported in closing this deal.

Ibrahim Fibres Selected IBM System x& Storage Platform

Sharif Trust Selects IBM astheir SAP ERPImplementation Partner forSteel BusinessSharif Trust (Hill Metals) recently decided to implementSAP ERP ECC6.0, replacing the legacy solution for theirSteel and Metal Industry. With a large manufacturing plantand multiple warehouses, the company deals in steel, iron,billets and other industrial make-to-order products. SharifTrust is a market leader in scrap metals in the Middle East.

SAP implementation, in addition to helping the companysimplify reporting, improving business processes will alsoassist in increasing collaboration with suppliers andcustomers. It will automate the entire planning process tocreate consistent production plans, deliver the right producton time, integrate with the shop floor by capturing real timemanufacturing information to adapt the process and reduceoperating expenses.

PTCL Selects IBM BladeCenter & Storagefor Active Directory InfrastructurePTCL selected IBM BladeCenter and IBM System Storage that will help Pakistan'sincumbent telecom operator in modernising its IT infrastructure, and achieve betterAutomation and Security. For its Active Directory project PTCL was looking not only fora reliable and stable platform that has a clear technology roadmap but one that alsoprovided the latest features with the best ROI.

IBM provided PTCL, with an employee base of more than 30,000, with an end-to-endsolution with which the company will be able to put in place a scalable and modularinfrastructure, and only need to add small components, like blades or disks, to the solutionwith the subsequent addition of users.

Inbox was the IBM Business Partner that supported in closing this deal.

National Investment Trust(NIT) Selects IBM's TSMand FastBack for StorageManagement

KASB Bank Network RevampKASB Bank is serving through 100 branches in 38 cities of Pakistanwith unique and innovative financial solutions. In order to harness theirmission and provide better services to the customers, they decided toimprove their IP-based WAN and Data Centre Networking infrastructure.They were looking for a trust worthy partner to access, design, proposeand implement a full fledge network revamp and IBM was selected forthe task.

IBM proposed a highly-available, scalable, adaptable and resilientnetwork which will pay off significantly with higher uptime, greatercustomer satisfaction, increased revenues and reduced exposure toregulatory penalties. Team IBM proposed complete network solutionand all the equipment and services will be provided by IBM.

KESC DR Site NetworkInfrastructureKESC is one of the city's largest employers: around 17,000 peoplecurrently work for the company. It is also one of the oldest companiesin Karachi and was established in the city even before the creation ofPakistan in 1947. KESC chose IBM due to its expertise in designing anddeploying networking projects.

IBM proposed a Core Switch that is ideally suited for high-performance,high port density in all parts of the network, including the access,distribution, and backbone layers. The DR switch will provide maximumuptime, scalability and security which in turn will increase the productivityof the company.
