    JULIANGARRETT

    Date XX, 2010

    Dear Friend:

    My name is Julian Garrett, and Im running to be your next State Representativeright here in District 73.

    Im writing you today to ask for your support in the November 2 General Electionand let you know exactly where I stand on the critical issues facing Iowa.

    Im running for election because these are pivotal times for our state and country.

    I believe its critical that we elect strong men and women who will vigorouslydefend our Iowan values and way of life.

    If you agree, I hope youll take a moment and fill out the enclosed survey and letme know what issues you care most about.

    The fact is, earlier this year, when I first decided to run for office, it was because Isaw trouble on the horizon.

    You see, the last three budgets were the three largest in state history -- creating ahalf-a-BILLION dollar deficit last year.

    But instead of making necessary budget cuts to reduce the deficit, last year, theGeneral Assembly used stimulus money to balance the budget.

    That money isnt going to be there forever. What happens next year when thatmoney isnt there?

    Whether they want to admit it or not, the General Assembly will either be forced tomake budget cuts -- or raise taxes to make up for the shortfall.

    And since theyve already raised the sales tax by $500 MILLION and pushed for a$250 million property tax increase, if we dont act now, I dont think you and I will be

    happy with their choices.

    Thats why I believe we have to make changes -- and fast.

    If you agree, then I hope youll fill out the enclosed survey and return it to me

    IMMEDIATELY.

    Of course, we arent just facing tough times economically as a state and country.

    Were also facing a cultural and moral crisis.

    My wife, Nancy, and I have raised three sons in this troubled society.

    That experience has made us realize that we need folks representing us in DesMoines to work to defend our traditional values like hard work, independence and respect

    for others.

    You see, too many state legislators have bought into the notion that governmentknows best.

    Those that think that way just cant seem to help using government to push theirnew values agenda where the sanctity of life, individual responsibility, faith and familyare denigrated.

    Of course, what these politicians wont tell you is that these traditional values are

    bulwarks against over-reaching government power -- and thats the real reason why thestatists believe they must destroy them.

    Well, like you, I still believe freedom is the best path for mankind -- notgovernment-run lives.

    So if you send me to Des Moines as your next State Representative, I will doeverything I can to stop Iowa from following so many other states down the destructivepath of irresponsible fiscal and social policy.

    If elected, I will fight for:

    *** A reduction in your familys tax burden. When families keep more of whatthey earn, the economy benefits;

    *** Smaller state government. Instead of raising taxes to pay for wastefulspending projects and bloated bureaucracies, the folks in Des Moines needto learn to set a modest budget and stick to it, just like the rest of us;

    *** Top-quality education for the next generation of Iowa citizens. Its vital westrengthen education in Iowa by implementing stronger standards, andmaking sure every tax dollar spent on education goes to real academicimprovement, not social programming;

    *** Protection of our traditional Iowan values like the sanctity of life and theSecond Amendment;

    *** Better economic development for Iowa. We must defend Iowas cherishedRight to Work Law to ensure that no Iowa worker is forced to pay tribute tounion bosses just to have a job and feed their families.

    Not everyone agrees with these stands.

    In fact, you can be sure that the special-interest lobby has painted a huge target onmy back.

    They dont want me to go to Des Moines to end their tax-payer funded gravy train.

    Back in 1976 and again in 1984, I served as 5thCongressional District Chair forRonald Reagans Presidential Campaign.

    And back then, just like today, our great nation was also facing dark days. ButRonald Reagan came along, and restored Americas hope and placed us back on the path

    toward prosperity.

    Today, you and I have that same chance to right the ship.

    If we send men and women to Des Moines who will stand up to the special interestlobby and fight hard for lower taxes, limited government and traditional values, we canensure that future generations of Iowans have the same opportunity you and I had.

    Thats why, if I have your support, please consider including a contribution alongwith your completed survey.

    Any amount will help - your $500, $250, $100 or even $35 donation will enableme to reach many more people with our message.

    But please, do whatever you can.

    I believe if we take a principled stand now for limited government and traditionalvalues we can ensure future generations of Iowans will enjoy the same freedom and

    economic prosperity that you and I grew up with.

    So please, do all you can to spread the word before the November 2 GeneralElection, and be sure to return your survey today.

    Together, you and I can put Iowa back on the right path.

    Sincerely,

    Julian GarretCandidate, State HouseDistrict 73

    P.S. With so much at stake this crucial election year, its never been more importantthat we have someone in Des Moines to defend our shared values.

    As your State Representative, I will lead the fight for limited government and ourtraditional values.

    Please return the enclosed issue survey TODAY with a $500, $250, $100 or $35contribution, if possible, to help me reach more folks in the 73rdtDistrict with mycommon-sense message.
