At the start of the brains processingoperations, informationis held for a short timein something called theSensory store.Most informationdecays rapidly becausethere is so much ofit entering our brain. 5. Two important rules are:Never try to memorizeanything you dontunderstand.Always try to link newmaterial with what youalready know. 6. Be prepared to enjoy study. Onceyou let your brain get bored orfrustrated, your brain downshiftsand becomes less efficient.If you are interested in what youare learning, your brain operatesat peak efficiency and you willunderstand and remember morereadily. 7. If you group similar ideastogether or link /sequence your ideas itwill help you to rememberthem more effectively.This is also calledcategorising. 8. It is always a good ideato revisit newinformation multipletimes especially in thedays immediately afteryou have learned it. 9. Every time you test yourself youcan see where you are missingkey information. This will help youidentify what you need to do forrevision.Each time you revisit theinformation it has a betterchance of moving in to yourlong-term memory. 10. Have you heard thesaying You cant see theforest for the trees.If you just focus on thedetails (trees) you maymiss importantinformation you need forthe whole problem(forest). Try to look at thewhole thing or bigpicture. 11. Give yourself messages ofsuccess and self-confidence. Believe in yourself and yourability to learn. Pose questions like Whatwould it take for me to beable to easily retrieve theinformation I need from mysubconscious? Use affirmations like I easilyremember the informationI am learning. 12. Try to do things that helpyou unwind and andstop your brain fromthinking. 13. Playing music, singing ortapping to music can oftenhelp you remember things(especially if you are anauditory learner or if you area musical / rhythmicallearner). 14.
