January 25, 1975 The Quarterly Meeting of the South Georgia Association of

Free Will Baptists met January 25, 1975 at the Gainesville Free Will Baptist Church, Gainesville, Florida. Bro. Jakie Creech led the congregation in the opening hymn, "Victory In Jesus." We were led in prayer by Bro. Ken Crawford. A warm welcome was then extended to all by Bro. Robert Money, host pastor, after which our moderator, Bro. Buddy Morris share some thoughts from Jeremiah 23.

The roll call showed 15 churches to be represented and that 19 ministers were present. Bro. Damon Dodd of the state office and book store was recognized as a visitor to this session.

The minutes of the 1974 annual session were read and ap­proved. Motioned, seconded and carried for the chair to appoint committees. Those appointed were:

Obituary- Ken Crawford, Vera Clyatt, and Mrs. Clean Crow­der.

Finance - W. L. Collins, Nolan Purcell, and Jim Williams.

Larry Langford was to serve as proxy on the ordaining council for A. C. Truluck.

It was announced that Bob Hancock would not accept the office of clerk.

Motioned, seconded and carried to switch Kerry Steedley from assistant clerk to clerk and Bro. Hancock to assistant clerk. We were then dismissed for a short recess.

We were reassembled with a song and led in prayer by Bro. I. J. Blackwelder. It was announced that the annual minutes would be later in being distributed to the churches due to the change in clerks. After an offering was received, Bro. Damon Dodd delivered a challenging message entitled "Stand Fast" with Mark 6:31-44 as the text.

After a delicious lunch the afternoon session began with Bro. Creech leading us in singing "I Am Thine, 0 Lord." On behalf of the Obituary Committee, Bro. Crawford reported those deceased since our last meeting as being: George Burkett, Immanuel; Eunice Dasher, Glennville; and Maggie Mann, Memorial. Motion­ed, seconded and carried to receive this report with Bro. Money leading in a time of prayer of remembrance and thanksgiving for these lives. Another deceased later named was Bro. Markham of Immanuel.

Motioned, seconded and carried to receive the ordaining coun­cil's report as information. Bro. Grant Saverance reported: On Dec. 13, 1974, the ordaining council met at the First Free Will Baptist Church, Douglas, Ga., for the purpose of ordaining Bro. Ken Kaney to the Gospel ministry. We, the ordaining council, recommend Bro. Haney into our fellowship with the rights and privileges of an ordained minister. Motioned, seconded and· car­ried to receive Bro. Haney.

The ordaining council's report continued with the following recommendations: Any person coming before the ordaining coun­cil who does not accept the resolutions relating to the charismatic movement should come under the watchcare of the association for a period of six months. At the end of this period, if they still disagree with resolution, we the South Georgia Association will not receive them into our fellowship. Motioned and seconded and after much discussion, the motion failed.

The final item of this report was a request from the North Florida Association for a letter of recommendation for Bro. Reedy Saverance who has united with that association. Motioned, sec­onded and carried to send letter of good standing.

Bro. Archie Ratliff then gave the report of the Mission Board, with the following recommendations: We are recommending and have already taken action on giving $50.00 per week to the States­boro, Swainsboro, and Douglas works. We now have approximate­ly $500.00 in our treasury and will need about $1000.00 per month to operate. We would like to send a representative (Theron Long)

to each church, and we are asking each church to send your Sunday School offering the first Sunday of every month to the South Georgia Mission Board. We also recommend that the Alma fund be transferred into the general fund.

Motioned, seconded and carried to receive report as infor­mation. Motioned, seconded and carried to transfer the Alma fund (approximately $1160.00) into the general treasury with the stipulation the money is to be replaced if and when an Alma mission is started. Motioned, seconded and carried after a period of discussion and explanation to send $50.00 per week to the Douglas Church, with the time period being 3 months.

Motioned, seconded and carried to adopt financial report as read. In addition, there was a motion, seconded and carried to

' allow members of the ordaining council 10 cents per mile for travel.

Bro. Creech then presented the camp board report as infor­mation. The need for beds was mentioned, and the dates for camp sessions were announced: June 9-14 Teens; August 4-9 Juniors; and August 11-16 Teens. Motioned, seconded and carried to re­ceive the report as information.

Bro. Blackwelder, in reference to the ordaining council's recommendation, made a motion that the South Georgia Assoc­iation neither ordain nor retain a minister out of line with Free Will Baptist doctrine. Motioned, seconded and carried.

We then enjoyed a short message by Bro. Ken Haney from the Book of Habakkuk. It was announced the next session would convene in Glennville at the Ebenezer Church. Motioned, second-

EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE The Executive Committee of the South Georgia Association

of Free Will Baptists met in Glennville, Georgia, at 7:30 P. M., on March 31, 1975, with the following men present: Theron Long. Kerry Steedley, Nolan Purcell, Grant Saverance, and Archie Rat­liff.

A missions emphasis program was planned for the April 26 quarterly meeting. It was decided to ask the finance committee

to designate that offering to missions.

Motioned, seconded and carried for the Clerk and Moderator to maintain copies of quarterly meeting minutes and that making copies for pastors be discontinued. Annual minutes would be printed for all pastors and churches.

Bro. Grant Saverance, host pastor, extended words of welcome.

After the session was called to order, 26 ministers and mem­bers from 28 churches responded to roll call. Bro. Damon Dodd from Moultrie, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Nichols from Arkansas, Dick Riddle from Tennessee, and missionaries Herbert Waid, Dale Bishop, and Louis Coscia were recognized as visitors.

Delegates were then seated; the following committees were appointed:

FINANCE - Nolan Purcell, C. D. Rentz, and Bob Hancock.

OBITUARY - Troy Dykes, Barbara Roberts, Betty Grace Crawford.

Bro. Robert Money was appointed to serve as proxy on the ordaining council for Hollis Warren. Bro. A. C. Truluck resigned from the ordaining council. Motioned, seconded and carried to accept his resignation, and Bro. Billy Livesay was appointed to serve in the morning session. Motioned, seconded and carried for the Executive Committee to serve as a nominating committee to fill vacant positions on the boards .

Minutes of the past session were read and approved, and the annual minutes as well as the National Association minutes were made available. After Bro. Dodd gave a brief report from the state office and bookstore, we enjoyed a missionary panel discus­sion moderated by Miss Laura Belle Barnard. Missionaries Waid, Bishop and Coscia shared problems and answered questions from the audience. After singing together the hymn, "The Regions Beyond", we received a missions offering and were led in prayer by Bro. Billy Hanna. Bro. After singing "I Gave My Life For Thee", we were dismissed for lunch being led in prayer by Bro. I. J. Blackwelder.

As we began the afternoon session, Bro. Creech led us in '

singing "We've a Story to Tell" and Bro. Ken Crawford offered prayer.

Bro. Luther Burns then shared information regarding a work day and the dates of camp. On behalf of the camp board, he also made the following recommendations:

Girls Attire - Dresses and culottes may be worn if the length comes no higher than 2 inches above the knee. Modest cut slacks may be worn for recreation. No tank shirts allowed. Motioned,

seconded and carried after much discussion.

Boys Attire - No changes made.

Motioned, seconded and carried to authorize board to inves­tigate swimming pool possiblllties and to set up a fund. Motioned, seconded and carried for local South Georgia pastors not to be paid for services at camp sessions except mileage allowance.

The board recommended for churches to support the camp on a mouthly basis and to elect a promotional representative.

Bro. Saverance then gave the ordaining council's report. We met at the Calvary Free Will Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Fla., for the purpose of ordaining Curtis Osborne into the ministry. We recommend he be granted the rights and privileges of an ordained minister. Also, Corinth Church has requested for Teddy Waters to be ordained and the council is planning a service in the near future.

On March 23. 1975, the ordaining council met with Oak Grove Church, Baxley, Ga., and ordained to the gospel ministry Grover Edge. We recommend he be given the rights and privileges of an ordained minister. Motioned, seconded and carried to receive this report.

Bro. Ratliff then reported for the mission board, giving a financial balance of $1153.31, March 31, 1975. He noted that the Douglas church was no longer receiving financial aid, and churches were reminded of the first SUnday School offering plan. singing "At Calvary", and Bro. I. J. Blackwelder led in prayer. The clerk called the session to order, and then our Moderator shared with us from Acts 27:25. Bro. Norman Richmond, host pastor, extended words of welcome and Bro. William Morris gave the response. Prayer was then offered by Bro. Carl Brown.

resented by letter. Motioned, secondea and carried to seat the delegates. Horace Gaskins, Principal of Brunswick Christian Academy, who recently moved from North Carolina, was recognized as a visitor. Minutes of the past session were then read and approved.

Motioned, seconded and carried for chair to appoint the com­mittees. Those appointed were:

· OBITUARY - Charles Bryant, Betty Grace Crawford, and Mrs. Leroy Cutler.

FINANCE - C. D. Rentz, Edward Dukes, and Denson Wheeler.

Immanuel Church then recommended Randy Bryant and Joseph Cutler to the ordaining council for licensing. A question concerning funds paid to retired ministers and widows was then raised. Ken Crawford moved that both begin receiving $20.00 per quarter; Grant Saverance amended the motion to be $30.00 per quarter. Motioned, seconded and carried. We were then dis­missed for a short recess.

We reassembled by singing "The Light of the World Is Jesus" and Horace Gaskins led in prayer. Bro. Saverance then led in singing the hymns, "Tell Me the Story of Jesus" and "Heavenly Sunlight". An offering was received with Ray Dukes leading in prayer. The CUtler family then rendered some special music before Bro. Sammy Wilkinson's message from John 3:16-21 en­titled "Responsibility Concerning the Gospel."

The message was deeply appreciated and well received with Bro. Hollis Warren leading us in a prayer of dedication. We were then dismissed for lunch with Bro. Billy Hanna offering the blessing.

To begin the afternoon session after a delicious meal and a time of fellowship, Ray Dukes led the congregation in singing "At the Cross". Bro. Everett Crawford offered prayer, and Bro. Leroy Cutler spoke from Ephesians 4 on "The Whole Family of God" and shared his testimony.

Bro. Bryant then reported for the Obituary Committee.

In memory and respect for these departed loved ones, the congregation stood and sang "Amazing Grace."

Bro. Perry then gave the report of the Ordaining Council. The ordaining council met at the Corinth Church May 9, 1975 for the purpose of ordaining Teddy Waters into the ministry. We reconunend Bro. Waters be granted the full rights and priv­ileges of an ordained minister.

Bro. W. L. Collins requested his letter from South Georgia Association be sent to Indian River Association of Florida.

We request he be given a letter of good standing.

Item No.2-

We, the ordaining council, recommend that the local church of which Bro. Joseph Cutler and Randy Bryant are members, license them for a period of one year.

Item No.3-

Bro. J. M. Goode comes to us from East Alabama Association. He is pastoring at Waycross, Ga.

We recommend that he be accepted into full fellowship pending a letter from East Alabama Association.

Item No.4-

Bro. Norman Richmond comes to us from The Northeast Mississippi Association. He is pastoring at Harmony.

He has a letter of good standing with him. ,

We recommend he be received into full fellowship of the South Georgia Association.

Item No.5-

Bro. Hollis Warren is now pastoring at Colquitt, Georgia. He requested that we send his letter to the Martin Association.

We recommend that a letter of good standing be sent to the Martin Association.

Members of the camp board also met with the Executive Committee to plan a possible adult retreat. Bro. C. D. Rentz also was present at his request.

It was decided to plan the retreat for October 23-25 with a fee of $7.00 per person or $10.00 per couple. The camp board was to send letters to churches with more details. Possible speakers for the retreat suggested were Bro. Goode, Bro. Rentz, Bro. Leroy Cutler, and Bro. Max Perry.

It was decided to ask Bro. Norman Richmond to preach at the annual meeting and for Nolan Purcell and Ken Crawford to have Scripture reading and prayer.

It was also noted it would be time to elect men to association and state boards.

October 25, 1975 The 98th annual session was opened with Bro. Jakie Creech

leading us in singing two hymn: "Take the Name of Jesus With You" and "I Am Thine, 0 Lord." Bro. Nolan Purcell then read from Psalm 16 and gave a devotional entitled "Everything Under Control" and offered prayer. After the call to order, Bro. William Morris extended words 1 of welcome. The roll call showed 28 churches to be represented, 5 of these by letter, and that 26 ministers were present. Visitors recognized were: 3 ministers, Charles Jamieson .. Jacksonville, Fla., Alton Everson, Philadelphia Jhurch, Folkston, and Clyde Shankle, Corinth Church, Alma, Ga. John Ray Peters from Dungannon, Va., was also visiting.

Motioned, seconded and carried to seat the delegates and then the minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. The following committees were appointed:

After a short recess, we reassembled with congregational singing led by Bro. Creech and prayer by Bro. Alton Everson. The needs of the state missions were shared by the moderator and an offering was received with Paul Davis leading in prayer. Then we sang "There Is a Name I Love to Hear" and heard several testimonies concerning the adult retreat. Bro. Norman Richmond then preached the morning message, using II Cor. 4:1,2 as a text. It was a message of inspiration and encouragement in giving four reasons why Christians must not faint. We were dismissed for lunch with the prayer and blessing being offered by Harris Nix.

After enjoying the meal and a time of fellowship, we began the afternoon session by singing "Standing On The Promises" and being led in prayer by Bro. George Bowen. Ken Crawford then gave a devotion from James I on "True Religion" and offered prayer.

Motioned, seconded and carried to receive as information. Bro. Burns then made a motion on behalf of the camp board that camp sessions begin on Sunda·y afternoon. After much discussion, motioned, seconded and carried.

Bro. Billy Hanna then shared some information on Bill HR 46 (Youth Camp Safety Act) and recommended that personal letters be written to elected officials. Bro. Theron Long then moved that the Executive Committee contact Bro. Rufus Coffey and send a copy of th~ bill in reference to possible action. The motion was amended to read that a copy also be sent to the state office and to the Christian Camps Conference. Motioned, seconded and carried.

Kerry Steedley then gave a partial report of the Digest Committee. The report showed 28 churches to be represented and 26 ministers present, and 60 deacons and delegates in atten­dance. Of the churches reporting, 144 baptisms were noted with a total of 158 being added to these churches and 77 lost due to death, revision of roll, etc. Eighteen churches gave to home missions; 16 to foreign missions; and 14 gave to the Bible College. Motioned, seconded and carried to receive as a partial report.

The committee recommended that the Moderator appoint deegates to the state meeting. Motioned, seconded and carried for this to be done at Moultrie.

Bro. Rentz then announced two meetings for pastors to attend to plan a crusade. The dates were October 27 and November 10.

Motioned, seconded and carried to adjourn. The meeting closed with Bro. Carl Brown leadingin prayer.
