Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti Event
The Future Plans
The I Lead Pune Campaign began with a complete
survey of the entire stretch of JM Road and FC Road
to understand the major issues of the City.
For this survey, we divided the stakeholders in 5
sections,
Pedestrians
Traffic Police
Shopkeepers
Public Transport Drivers
Private Vehicle Drivers
On the basis of this survey, a complete analysis of
the field was done and a series of problems were
noticed and a few solutions were drafted.
The major problems observed were as follows,
Bus Stop on Footpath near Ranade Institute
Absence of Pedestrian Signal on FC road and hence,
reckless driving by citizens.
Lack of Zebra Crossings
Lack of Noticeable Signboards
Garbage on Footpath
Encroachment on Footpath
Buses do not follow Bus Lanes
Congestion and pollution hazardous to Human Health
The survey was conducted for a week and then we
started working on the plans drafted by the Youth
Brigade under the guidance of Times Of India,
Pune.
Snehalaya works primarily for the
rehabilitation of women who were once victims
of prostitution, besides they have various other
big, small, upcoming projects.
We had been invited over to experience what it
takes to work on ground zero, and how to
motivate people to change their mindsets.
We visited Snehalaya, an NGO in Ahmednagar on
14th and 15th of September 2013 to understand
its working of projects and discuss the problems
and find solutions to it.
We were promised of all support required by the
NGO.
They have agreed to give us their young volunteers as
many as required for our work, when we get going on
ground zero full time after talks with the authorities.
We also have the video of Mr. Girish Kulkarni, a
prominent socialite to speak for our cause and attract
youth towards our initiative.
We also spoke for the cause we are working on, and
encouraged as many people to volunteer and be a
part of our campaign. We shared with them about the
need of changing our mindsets and how it can lead to
a positive change around us using Radio Nagar
90.4FM.
Lastly, we were felicitated with a Ray of Hope
Certificate to motivate us towards the events planned
down the line.
College of Engineering, Pune was an event to get
the young engineers and other people in that
college Fest to be a part of the Campaign and to
spread the word related to the cause, I Lead Pune
is working for. This event was held on 28th of
September 2013.
As many as 500 participants showed their interest
and were excited about the campaign.
We spread awareness among the youth regarding
the Road Safety and Traffic rules of the City.
It was encouraging for us to see so many people
appreciating the campaign and opining with what
they think could be a possible solution.
On 29th of September 2013, I Lead Pune had his
First Awareness Drive on the Ground Zero level.
Its purpose was to educate, and encourage people
to follow Traffic rules and change their attitudes
towards Road safety. It was begun with our Youth
Brigade Members and as the day progressed we
were 50 of us towards the Campaign.
Many citizens kept voicing with us on the streets.
Many citizens who were breaking the rule, stopped
doing it after seeing us and hence, the purpose of
this event was accomplished.
It was a successful event, for sure.
Agenda: Traffic Situation Review and working towards solution
On 1st of October 2013, I Lead Pune team had a meeting to discuss regarding Traffic Situation with Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mr. VishwasPandhare.
During the meeting, the survey conducted by I Lead Pune Youth Brigade was discussed and DCP appreciated the efforts of the team.
The meeting had a positive Approach and assured Help in the Cause.
The FC Road and JM Road One way Proposal of 2010 is put to review once again after this meeting.
On 2nd October 2013, I Lead Pune decided to have
the Gandhian Approach and give a Yellow Rose to
all the Citizens who break Traffic Rules at
Balgandharva Chowk.
Every Youth Brigade and a Volunteer would give the
rose to the person waiting on the Zebra Crossing
mark for the Signal or a person violating the signal
and explain them the importance of the rule and
encourage them to never commit such a mistake
henceforth.
The event was welcomed by many citizens and
greetings like a Thumbs Up gesture and Great Job
guys was a motivation for us.
We gave away 160 roses in a span of 150 minutes
which shows the ratio that every minute the rule is
broken on these roads.
But we received a big appreciation from the Traffic
police on duty and he said that if such ideas
become famous then people will feel guilty and
stop breaking rules and soon we will have a safe
Pune.
The volunteers from Aam Aadmi Party were of a big
support for this event.
Posters and small announcements of Road Safety
Rules were even a part of this event.
