GUIDELINES ON WHEN TO TREAT SMALL GRAINS FOR APHID CONTROL

15 days small grain 12 days corn Not registered for r)1~

Insecticide need depends on the number of greenbugs present, size and vigor of plants, time of year, moisture conditions, stage of growth and presence or absence of parasites and predators. Informatio11 on the following table will serve as a reliable guide in determining the need for treatment in small grains.

Plant height (inches) 3-6

Number greenbugs per linear foot

-- 100-3~--··

4-8 200-400 6-16 300-800

The appearance of small yellow or brown areas caused by greenbug feeding indicates a need for treatment. Occasionally populations of 25 to 50 greenbugs per linear foot of row on young small grain plants may warrant treatment. This is especially true on oats or barley. Oats and barley commonly are more susceptible to greenbug damage than wheat.
