J. Cunningham.is to·be commendedop his courageous display against Kurri when totally blind in one eye, he resumed after the interval to help his team win its vital match.

Congratulations are in order to that grand sportsman Nev Quinn, who today will play his 100th first grade game with the South Club.

Cessnock reserve grade. hooker, A. Scott, last week was promoted to the senior team in place of injured Nev Crosdale and turned in_ a great per­formance. Allen not only gave his team a fair share of the ball, but played a wonderful . game in the rucks. __

. Winning ticket in Toronto's com­petition, last Saturday was-ticket No. 10539 which to date has not been loc­ated. Mr. R. Smaller, c/o. LP.I. held winning ticket No. 7574 in comp. last Saturday week.

George Mead, Waratah· forward,- is" now showing the form that made him a good prospect last season. This player has forced his way back after an uncertain start, but to his. credit he wasn't too proud to go back to reserve grade.

We hope Russ Naughton of Lakes will soon be back in fine kicking form after his recent injury in the game against Cessnock.

Cessnock Club held a meeting last Sunday morning for the purpose of forming a League's C1ub and there was a very good attendance. Any­body interested in becoming a mem­ber is asked to. contact Colin Spring­bett.

Maitland third grade player Peter Tegg, agai� played an excellent game at Cessnock. His try was one of the best scored by this team this season.

·Jim Beddow, Kurri's utility player,· plays his 100th first grade game forthe Club today. Jim like . Doug Chapple, is a fine player and gentle­man "on and off" the field .. He beganplaying grade football with Kurri in1953 and has represented Newcastlein the Country Week trials duringthis period. Jim is reputed to be oneof the best defenders in the districtand for the honour of playing 100 first grade games, the Kurri Clujj will present him with a blazer at the end of the season.

Norths winger -Ray Hunter showed his worth as a goal kicker with three fin� goals last week. Ray was.recog­nised as an extra good kick in his junior days at District Park.

Maitland has gained a very prom­ising centre from the Junior ranks in Warren Bell. His two good tries paved the.way for a. Maitland victory last Saturday.

Today Kevin Geelan plays his 100 (99 Senior, 1 rese_rve.) games for Maitland. Kevin has been the - reg­ular first grade full back since 1954, missing only season 1959-. He has represented on eight occ�sions in grade he has scored 23 tries and kicked 303 goals.

The Kurri 6.7 schoolboy team were successful for the second successive year in winning the P.S.A.A.A. All­Schools Carnival in their division at Muswellbrook last weekend. This is a magnificent effort by these lads and a credit to coaches, Messrs. · Jack Beamer and Charles Hughes.

Stuart Ebrill a new comer to South has been showing good form in the thirds, no doubt Uncle Keith Dick will be passing on advice.

The player who really. played the good game for Waratah last week was Ronnie O'Connor. Although shy and quiet off the field, he really lets go when the game is on, thanks to the encouragement of girl friend, , Irene.

sistent form throughout the season is Cessnock's third grade lock -for­ward Jim· Peek. Recently this pop­.ular young chap became engaged and all Cessnock followers join· in wish­ing Jim and his future wife all the best.

West lucky number competition, last week, was won by Charlie Brown of Wallsend, with ticket No. 7689.

Speedy winger Arthur Hughes from Waratah, always seems to be able to score a brilliant try or two �very week. Given a yard to move this player becomes one of the most dan­gerous wingers in the game .
