Hydraulic Hose, Fittings, and

Flanges

Hydraulic   Hose   is   highpressure,   synthetic   rubber, thermoplastic   or   reinforced   hose   that   transfer   fluid   to transmit   force   within   hydraulic   machinery.   The   hydraulic machinery   has   been   used   since   1940   when   engineers discovered   that   hydraulic   systems   were   more   compact   in size, light in weight & selflubricating. The development of hydraulic hoses opened the way for a development of a wide array   of   brand   new,   highpowered   machines   for   military applications. When it comes to the development of flexible hydraulic hoses for the development of a wide array of highpowered machines that are based on hydraulic technology.

Typically,  Hydraulic  hoses  use  the distribution of  water   in order to operate or transform a part of the machinery. The hydraulic hose fittings are connected & transmitted hydraulic power   to   another   device.   This   kind   of   hydraulic   fitting required relies on the connection source. The Hose fittings can come up with many ways, such as Oring, elbow, pipe, flanges,   face seal  & flare  less.  SAE (Society  of  Automated Engineers) sets the standards for all these hose fittings on the  machinery.  Almost   each  hydraulic   system,   the   fittings joins the lengths of the pipe & hose, which run between the different  parts  of   the   system.  These  are  hydraulic   fittings must  be   fitted   in  a  manner,   for   instance,   if   the  pipes  get damage   or   there   is   a   requirement   for   the   tubes   to   be replaced   or   repaired.   As   they   can   be   omitted   easily.   The hydraulic fittings are categorized into two major parts:

1)AllMetal Fittings 2)ORing Fittings  3)Metal Thread Fittings 4)ORing Hydraulic Fittings

Hydraulic   fittings  come up  in  different  sizes   in  order   join hoses  on   the   components.  They  deliver  hydraulic   fluid   to them in power. There is also heavy equipment such as dump trucks & back hoses that use hydraulic energy to widen truck beds. When it comes to its measurements that needed to fit a hydraulic fitting correctly  that are embraced such as exterior diameter, length, thread gauge & angle of the fitting.

When the components within hydraulic systems had never to be removed. The connections could be brazed or welded in order to widen or enhance the reliability. Nevertheless, it is invariable   that   connections   should  be  broken up   to  allow replacing  components.  Therefore,   removable   fittings  are  a necessity   for   all,   but   most   of   the   specialized   hydraulic systems.   At   the   end,   the   fitting   designs   have   advanced considerably   to   enhance   performance   &   installation convenience,   moreover,   the   overall   function   of   these components that remain relatively unchanged.

Within the hydraulic system, fitting seal fluid uses one of two techniques, for instance, allmetal fittings rely on metaltometal   contact,   whilst   Oring   type   fittings   that   contain pressurized fluid by compressing an elastomeric seal.

AllMetal Fittings

You may notice threads on pipe fittings that are tapered, and it  may   rely   on   the   stress   generated  by   forcing.  The  pipe threads are subject to leakage due to the fact that they are torquesensitive over tightening misconducts the threads so much.   In   addition,   they   are   subjected   to   loosen   when exposed  to  vibrations  & wide   temperature  vibrations.  The threads should be expected when pipe fittings are used in

highpressure   hydraulic   systems.   Since,   pipe   threads   are tapered, assemble & disassemble that only makes the leakage problem   by   distorting   threads,   especially   when   a   forged fitting is used in the castiron port. It is highly recommended for pipe fittings that are still another reason why most of the designers believe them to be outdated for use in hydraulic systems.

FlareType   Fittings:  On   the   other   side,   the   flare   type fittings were developed as an improvement over pipe fittings before so many years. This probably remains the design used most   often   in   the   hydraulic   systems.   To   tighten   the assembly's nut that draws the fitting into the flared tube face & fitting body. 37° flare fittings are designed for the usage of with thinwall to medium thickness tubing in the systems. It is worked between the temperature range 65° to 400° F.  For forged components manufacturer,  this is something more than most of other fittings, and it can easily be adapted to metric tubing. This is readily available, plus one of the most economical.

The flare  less  fittings are gaining wider acceptance  in the United   States.   This   is   due   to   the   reason   that   they   need minimal   tube   preparation.   Also,   it   handles   average   fluid working   pressures,   it   is   more   tolerant   of   vibrations   as compared   to  all  metalfittings.  At   long   lost,   the   flare   less fittings should be used with medium or thickwalled tubing.

Flareless: The flareless fittings need less tube preparation, and can handle an average of 3,000 psi. It includes a ferrule body, which tightens onto the nuts of fittings.

Elbow: This kind of fitting comes up with several sizes, i.e. 45º for both male & female, plus 37º and 90º.

Flanges: These are for tube fittings that are larger than (> 1 inch) one inch in size.

Oring Type Fitting

It  may surprise you that leakage in hydraulic systems that could   have   been   omitted   more   than   a   generation   ago. However, the leakfree hydraulic operations had always been desirable.   This   need   has   become   acuter   with   highest operating pressures, which became necessary.

With   highest   hydraulic   fluid   leakage   has   brought   up   by higher pressure. It is worked up under the umbrella of the committee of tubing, piping of SAE. Fittings that use Orings for tight connections that continue to gain the acceptance by equipment   designers   around   the   worldwide.   In  precision machined   components   manufacturers,   there   are   three basic types that are available such as:

• Oring Flange Fittings• Oring Boss Fittings• Face Seal Or Flat Face Oring (FFOR) Fittings

Page 6: Hydraulic hose, fittings, and flanges | Saini Flange

When it comes to a choice between FFOR fittings or Oring boss, it usually depends on such factors wrench clearance, fitting location or individual preference.

The flange connections usually used with tubing, which has an OD (Outer Diameter) greater than 7 to 8 inches, or the applications are involved extremely high pressures.

Generally,   Oring   boss   fittings   fall   into   two   groups,   i.e., adjustable   and   nonadjustable.   The   nonadjustable   fitting includes connectors  & plugs.  All   these are simply screwed into the port, and there is no alignment is needed. When it comes to adjustable boss fittings, then it includes elbows & tees, and needs to be oriented in a specific direction. The fundamental   difference   between   two   is   that   the   plugs   & connectors have zero lock nuts, it also requires no backup washer to effectively a joint.

Metal Thread Fittings

These fittings make use of meshing threads of two parts of the pipes to seal the joints for pressurized hydraulic fluid. The   hydraulic   joints   are   acceptable   absolute   perfect conditions. These sorts of metal fittings are less reliable for usage   as   they   are   vulnerable   to   vibration   &   temperature shock damage.
