Primarily used with viscosities of 1 +/- 10% diesel, water, coolant etc

Has been recently used with oils 15W-90W

Is described as an overfill protection system

It removes the operator from determining fuel level in the tank during

refuelling

Industry transitioned from splash filling to fast filling in circa 1980’s.

Fast filling provided better asset utilisation and dry break couplings reduced fuel spillage.

‘Wiggins’ pressurised refuelling became industry standard.

Pressurised fast filling delivered improved refuelling rates and auto shut off fuel guns.

Pressurised fast filling introduced serious new risks- Fuel tanks are now pressurised to 13psi

(possibly as much as 85psi)

Operator can override fuel gun to top off the tank- inducing a fuel spill
