    1 Introduction

1.1 Purpose of the ManualThe purpose of this document is to identify specific design and construction issues. The Hardware Manual Modules (HW:BTSE Modules) describes: The appearance The LED indications The adjustments The DIP switch settings

    of the modules.

The Hardware Manual Modules contains all hardware components that are relevant for maintenance and installation according to the IMN, ITMN and MMN Manuals.

1.2 Structure of the ManualThe HW:BTSE manual is structured in the following way:1. Introduction - purpose and structure of the manual.2. Modules3. Abbreviations4. Index

    Remark to Subchapter Modules

In order to find the correct module in this manual it is important to know that two different expressions exist for each module:1. Module Name2. Mnemonic of element (for ordering)

    For example:

The alphabetical order of the subchapters in the chapter Modules is sorted in the first level by the module name and in the second level by the mnemonic.

The title of the subchapters returns the module name and the list below returns the mnemonic of the element.

    Introduction

    1.3 Rack Outlines

1.4 General Information on BTSE LEDsThis book contains the common LED signal mechanisms of the BTSE boards. All the modules of the BTSE have LEDs to indicate their status, except BATTERY, DIPLEXER, DUBIAS, FAN, HPDU and TMA.

After the startup, a hardware test will be executed on each module of the BTSE. Detected hardware errors will be indicated by the flashing reset LED where the number of the failed test is binary coded in the flashing sequence. The test number is an 8-bit value where the LSB (Least Significant Bit) is transferred first and the MSB (Most Sig-nificant Bit) last.

General meanings of the LED color when the LED is on: Green: Hardware and software are O.K. Red: After reset, during software initialization (one for each processor) Yellow: Active module of redundant board

There are additional LEDs and further meanings specific to each type of module, these are described in the respective section. There are also LEDs which show the status of software. These are described in the following module descriptions.

Whenever useful, the position of the module is indi-cated in a sketch of the corresponding racks.

Generally, sketches of the BS-240 II will be shown as an example, using the following abbreviations: ER: Extension Rack BR: Base Rack SR: Service Rack

1.5 Removing and Inserting ModulesThere are two variants for fastening modules in the subracks.

Some modules, e.g., the COBA and COSA, are equipped with a lever mechanism at their front panel. For removing or inserting these modules, they can be fastened / unfas-tened by swivelling the levers at the top and bottom edges of the module.

Other modules, e.g., the CU, DIAMCO, DUAMCO, FICOM, AC/DC, are fastened with TORX-headed knurled screws. Replacement of these modules requires special tools.

    Figure 1 Module Fastening Variants

The TMA (Tower Mounted Amplifier) must be replaced complete with its housing (to be mounted on / unmounted from the mast).

The semi-rigid / flexi cables on the CU, DIAMCO, DUAMCO and FICOM must be fastened / unfastened with a torque spanner (2 sizes).

g It must be ensured that the modules are only replaced by modules with the same (or a compatible) HW and SW functional status!

Modules with switches or jumpers must be compared with the removed module for safety reasons.

The modules should be removed and inserted as fast as possible, in order to prevent reading in false module addresses from the CAN BUS.

    Introduction

    Handling Modules with Code Keys

To prevent the installation of the modules at incorrect mounting positions, code keys are used on all relevant plug-in modules.

Figure 2 Location of the Plug-in Module Code Keys

In order to avoid module and backplane connector damage when modules are removed from / inserted into a base station frame, please observe the following:

In general, after having removed a module from a base station frame, please make sure that the modules code keys (at the rear connector terminals) are mechanically intact, and that a code key plug has not been torn out from its socket and is now jammed in the backplane.

When replacing a module, please make sure

That the code keys of the new module have the same setting as those of the old one (see figure below)

That all code keys (also those of the old module) are mechanically intact That a code key plug has not been torn out from its socket and is now jammed in the

    backplane

When inserting a module, do not use excessive pressure.

2.1 A:COOLINGThe A:COOLING add-on module dissipates heat coming from the combiner.

g If an A:TIFNTPM is used in direct connection with an A:DUAMCOM, they must be separated by an A:COOLING module to avoid overheating of the A:TIFNTPM module.

    Without A:COOLING, temperatures within limits for the A:TIFNTPM module (max 55 C / 131 F) can no longer be guaranteed at external temperatures above 45 C / 113 F.

The module is fed by a 12 V power supply coming from A:TIFNTPM.

2.3 A:DUXMEGThe A:DUXMEG (Add-on Duplex Filter for E-GSM) is a duplexer for the E-GSM 900 fre-quency range with the following general functions: Coupling of the transmitting path (TX) from the DCURGs to the antennas Splitting the receiving path (RX) from the antennas to the DCURGs

If the E-GSM 900 frequency band is to be provided, the duplexers will not be part of the DCU modules. Due to their large volume, the E-GSM 900 duplexers are configured as add-on modules (A:DUXMEG) on top of the base unit and a DCURG module is used as carrier unit. The combination of DCURG and DUXMEG has the same function as a single DCUDUX in other frequency ranges.

The TX outputs and the RX inputs of the DCURG are connected to A:DUXMEG via semi-rigid cables. The antenna output cables from A:DUXMEG run over the backplane and leave the eMicro at the bottom.

Up to 2 A:DUXMEG add-on modules can be installed at the top of the respective master cabinet as well as the optional extension cabinet.

2.4 A:OVPThe A:OVP (Add-on Overvoltage Protection) is a lightning protection module for 16 Environmental Alarm (ENVA) lines.

The A:OVP16AM does not need any power supply and there is no PID EEPROM on it. The module name and the serial number are printed on a bar code label only.

The 16 alarm lines and 16 ground lines are connected to an external connector field using a cable containing 16 twisted-pair wires.

The 16 alarm lines are guided through the flash duct to the A:OVP16AM. Two alarm lines are connected to one overvoltage protector module, the two ground lines are tied together to the ground pin of the module.

If other add-on modules are mounted above A:TIFNTPM, they have to be removed in order to allow the substitution of an NTPM. The NTPM is inserted into the A:TIFNTPM from above with its front panel on the front side of the eMicro BTS.

g If an A:TIFNTPM is used in direct connection with an A:DUAMCOM, they must be separated by an A:COOLING module to avoid overheating of the A:TIFNTPM module.

The Abis interface cables must be routed through the flash duct.

In case of NTPMGF, the two glass fibres are connected to a special interconnection box at the NTPMGF module.

If two A:TIFNTPMs are used, they need not necessarily be placed over one another. The two modules have to be directly connected to the two ATIF ports on the backplane of the eMicro BTS, each by means of a 40-wire flat ribbon cable (up to 80 cm / 31.5 inches long) terminated on both sides with BK-MOD plugs, to be inserted respectively into the ATIF port and the input/lowermost socket on the corresponding M:ATIFCON.

In order to manage the cables as easily as possible, the lowermost A:TIFNTPM should be bridged to ATIF1, the uppermost one to ATIF2.

ACTC is part of the DC Panel in every rack. Each ACTC provides 16 alarms. The ACTC in the Base Rack is directly connected to the COBA, in every other rack it is connected to ACTP.

ACTP provides a connection to the COBA via the CAN BUS.

ACTM optionally provides 48 additional alarms and 8 outputs at the Base Rack. It is directly connected to the CAN BUS.

g The ACTM module consists of an ACTA (ACT-Alarm) and an ACTP module, which are directly plugged together. The ACTM must be replaced es a whole unit because the Product Identification Data of the whole unit is stored into the ACTP.

Internal and external alarms of all racks are collected by ACT (Alarm Collection Terminal) modules and channeled to the COBA in the Base Rack.

There are three types of ACT modules: ACTC (ACT-Connection) is the standard alarm

connection module. ACTP (ACT-Processor) is the CAN BUS inter-

face for the alarm connection modules. ACTM (ACT-Master) is an optional alarm con-

nection module for the Base Rack.

2.12 BCOMThe BCOM (Basic Combining Equipment) consists of six identical combining modules (0-5) in a shared case. Each of these modules has the following general functions: Duplexing of the RX and the TX path, to be fed to a common antenna Amplifying and splitting of the RX signal from the antenna to the CUs Coupling of the TX paths from several CUs to the antenna

For the receive path, the BCOM provides a gain of 20 dB +/- 1.5 db (ANT - RX).

There is one LED at the front panel:
