The game will air live on the Pac-12 Network. Following the Cal game, the Huskies will have a week and a half off before returning to the road for a Thursday night game at USC Oct. 8.

ORANGe BOWL TeAM ReUNION: The UW will host a reunion of the 1985 Orange Bowl champions during this Saturdays game vs. Cal. That Husky team spent four weeks at No. 1 in the nation and beat No. 2 Oklahoma in the Orange Bowl in Miami. The members of that team will be honored at halftime Saturday, part of a weekend-long celebration and reunion.

QUICk HITTeRS: Washington has played 10 true freshmen play this season: OL Trey Adams, LB Tevis Bartlett, QB Jake Browning, LB Ben Burr-Kirven, TB Myles Gaskin, DB Austin Joyner, WR Chico McClatcher, DB Jordan Miller, WR Quinten Pounds and WR Isaiah Renfro ... Washingtons current roster includes 52 freshmen (true and redshirt) and 24 sophomores, as compared to 13 seniors ... 33 Huskies made their home debut in the UWs win over Sacramento State ... Browning was the first true freshman ever to start a season opener at quarterback for Washington ... he was the first true freshman QB to start in any game since Marques Tuiasosopo vs. Oregon in 1997, which was until this year, the only true freshman QB start in modern UW history ... Brownings 368 passing yards vs. Utah State were most ever by a UW freshman (true or redshirt) ... Gaskin rushed for 146 yards vs. Sacramento State, third-most yards ever by a UW true freshman (Joe Steele, 157 vs. Oregon, 1976; Willie Hurst, 155 vs. UCLA, 1998) ... Husky Dante Pettis returned a punt 76 yards for a touchdown at Boise State, his second career punt return for a TD (he went 87 yards Nov. 1, 2014, at Colorado) ... hes the first Husky to compile two punt returns for TDs since Charles Frederick in 2002 and 2003 ... in three games so far, UW special teams have blocked a punt, a PAT and a field goal, returned a punt for a touchdown and also run a fake field goal in for a TD.

THe HeAD COACH: Chris Petersen, who has built a reputation as an of-fensive innovator who carried the Boise State football program to its highest highs, was finally swayed to take on a new challenge when he agreed to become head coach of the Huskies in December of 2013. In his first season at Washington, Petersen led the Huskies to an 8-6 record and a berth in the TicketCity Cactus Bowl. He became the fastest active FBS coach to reach 100 career victories doing so in 117 games and tied with Knute Rockne for fifth fastest all-time after a win over cross-state rival Washington State in the Apple Cup. Petersens Built for Life coaching philosophy has been embraced on and off the field by the Huskies in less than a year. Not only did Washing-ton produce three first-team and seven honorable mention All-Pac-12 players, but a combined five players earned first or second team Academic All-Pac-12 recognition, including Danny Shelton who was named First-Team Academic All-American a first for Washington since 1991. Petersen, 50, the only two-time winner of the Paul Bear Bryant Award (2006 and 2009), compiled an exceptional 92-12 record in his eight seasons as Boise State head coach (2006-2013), including two unbeaten seasons (13-0 in 2006 and 14-0 in 2009) and two BCS bowl berths. He won five conference titles and posted a 57-6 record in conference play. Petersen, who also won the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Award in 2010, led the Broncos to 10 or more wins in seven of his eight seasons and to 12 or more in four straight (2008-11). In 2006, Petersens first season in charge in Boise, he led the Broncos to their first undefeated season since 1958, when the school was a junior college. The 2006 season was capped by a 43-42 overtime win over Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl, a game remembered by many as one of the greatest in bowl-game history. That Boise team ended the year ranked No. 5 in the final Associated Press top 25 poll. The following season, the Broncos went 10-3 and finished out of the polls for what would be the only time in Petersens first seven seasons. The 2008 squad went 12-1 and ranked No. 11 in the final top 25, finishing the regular season undefeated. In 2009, Petersen led the Broncos to their second undefeated campaign and another Fiesta Bowl berth. Boise State beat TCU, 17-10, in Arizona, becoming the first team from a non-BCS conference ever to win two BCS bowl games. The 09 Broncos checked in at No. 4 in the final AP poll. The 2010 season ended with a 12-1 record, a No. 9 final ranking and a win in the Las Vegas Bowl, the first of three straight trips to Vegas for Boise State. In 2011, BSU once again went 12-1, finishing with a No. 8 final ranking. Last season, Petersens team went 11-2 and beat Washington in the Las Vegas Bowl, good for a No. 18 final ranking. In 2013, Boise State, which faced Washington in the first game at the newly renovated Husky Stadium, finished the regular season with an 8-4 record (Petersen came to the UW prior to the Broncos bowl game). Throughout his teams unmatched on-field suc-cess, Petersen also saw his Broncos succeed in the classroom. In 2011, Boise State was the only school to finish in the top 10 in both major polls and also receive a Public Recognition Award from the NCAA for finishing in the top 10 percent of the Academic Progress Rate (APR), the second of three straight such awards for the program. Boise States APR was second in the nation in 2011 and 2012 and Petersen was recognized in 2012 for having the best APR for the two previous years among all FBS coaches. Known for his work with quarterbacks, Petersen tutored Ryan Dinwiddie, Jared Zabransky and Kellen Moore at Boise State. Moore set an NCAA record with 50 career wins as a starting QB while winning three conference player of the year awards. Moore was the only player ever to record four 3,000-yard seasons in both passing and total offense. His 142 passing touchdowns were second-most in NCAA history while his 14,667 career passing yards were fifth-most. He twice led the nation in passing efficiency and set an NCAA record for season interception percentage, throwing just three in 431 attempts in 2009. During his eight seasons seasons, 51 Broncos earned all-conference honors. Before taking over as head coach at Boise State, Petersen served as the Broncos offensive coordinator from 2001-05. Petersen began his coaching career in 1987 as freshman coach at his alma mater, UC Davis. In 1989, he became the Aggies varsity wide receivers coach. In 1992, Petersen moved to Pittsburgh, where he was quarterbacks coach. In 1993, he moved back west to take over

a QBs coach at Portland State, helping the Vikings to Division II playoff berths in each of his two seasons. In 1995, he took a job at Oregon as receivers coach under Mike Bellotti, a position he held before moving to Boise as coordinator in 2001. Born in Yuba City, Calif., on Oct. 13, 1964, Petersen graduated from Yuba City High in 1983 and went on to play QB at Sacramento City College. From there, he transferred to UC Davis, earning a degree in psychology in 1988. He later earned a masters in educational psychology from Davis. At Da-vis, he set numerous school records, including the season mark for efficiency, completions, percentage, TD passes and total offense as well as the career mark for completion percentage. He still remains in the top 10 in Aggies his-tory in numerous season and career categories and his season and career completion percentage records still stand. In 1986, Petersen was named the Northern California Athletic Conference Player of the Year and earned UC Davis Colby E. Slater Award as the schools Male Athlete of the Year. He was also a captain and won the teams Jerry Norris Award (Most Valuable and Inspirational) and was inducted into the Cal Aggie Athletic Hall of Fame in 1997. Petersen and his wife, Barbara, have two sons, Jack and Sam.

Washington vs. CaLiFoRnia HUSKY STADIUM SepT. 26, 2015 2:00 p.M. pT (pAC-12 NeTWORK)

100 WINS: With last years victory over Washington State in the Apple Cup, UW head coach Chris Petersen reached his 100th career victory. At the time, it put his record at 100-17, meaning that it took him 117 career games to reach his 100th victory. Only four coaches in major college history did it faster:

Gil Dobie (N. Dakota St., UW, Navy, Cornell): 108 gamesGeorge Woodruff (Penn): 109 gamesBud Wilkinson (Oklahoma): 111 gamesFielding Yost (Neb., Kansas, Stanford, San Jose St., Michigan): 114 gamesChris Petersen (Boise State, Washington): 117 gamesKnute Rockne (Notre Dame): 117 games

Additionally, Petersens 117 games were fewer than any ACTIVE FBS coach required to make it to 100 victories. Here are the top five:

Chris Petersen: 117 gamesUrban Meyer: 118 gamesBob Stoops: 122 gamesGary Patterson: 128 gamesSteve Spurrier: 129 games

PeTeRSeN TOPS LIST: The 2015 NCAA record book lists the top active FBS coaches in terms of winning percentage (minimum five years at FBS) and the Huskies own Chris Petersen tops this list. Here are the top 10 FBS coaches by career winning percentage, at the start of the 2015 season:

No. Name, School W L T Pct. 1. Chris Petersen, Washington ................. 100 18 0 .847 2. Urban Meyer, Ohio State ...................... 142 26 0 .845 3. PeTeRSeNS FIRST FIVe: The NCAA Record Book also notes that Petersen won more games in his first season as a head coach (13-0 in 2006) than any coach in history and that his record over his first five seasons as a head coach (61-5) was fifth-best in history, ahead of the likes of Knute Rockne and Bud Wilkinson and behind coaching legends like Gil Dobie and Walter Camp. Here are the 10-best coaching performances over the first five years of a career:

COACHING STAFF: With a new head coach on board last season, the Husky coaching staff obviously included mostly new faces. However, all of them are back for year two (see next note for more on that). Of the nine full-time coaches on the 2015 staff, six came to the UW from Boise State along with Petersen after 2013. Defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski was on Peters-ens staff in Boise in all eight seasons as head coach, including the last four as coordinator. Kwiakowksi, a BSU Hall-of-Fame defensive lineman, also worked

at his alma mater from 1988 to 1996. Associate head coach and offensive line coach Chris Strausser spent 12 of the last 13 seasons prior to last year coaching in Boise (he coached at Colorado in 2006), meaning he was with Petersen seven of eight seasons. Running backs coach and recruiting coordi-nator Keith Bhonapha was also on Petersens Broncos staff during Petersens entire eight seasons, though he started as director of operations. He coached running backs his last five years at BSU. Assistant head coach and lineback-ers coach Bob Gregory came to Washington having spent the previous four seasons at Boise State. He was the defensive coordinator at California from 2002 to 2009 and, along with also having coached at Boise State in 2001, has also worked in the conference at Oregon. Former Oregon State quarter-back Jonathan Smith, who turned in several top-class performances vs. the Huskies during his playing days, was quarterbacks coach at Boise State for Petersens last two seasons. Previously an offensive coordinator at Montana, he continued in that role (along with QBs) at Washington. Defensive backs coach Jimmy Lake, who spent the 2004 season in the same position at Wash-ington under head coach Keith Gilbertson, was Petersens DBs coach in Boise the last two years there, having spent five seasons in the NFL before that. Wide receivers coach Brent Pease worked at BSU under Petersen for his first six seasons as head coach. The former standout quarterback at Montana, Pease returned to the Northwest after having coached at Florida the previ-ous two seasons. Defensive line coach and special teams coordinator Jeff Choate has a similar recent history as he worked under Petersen from 2006 through 2011 before going to Washington State in 2012 and Florida in 2013. Among the nine full-time assistants, the only returner from prior to 2014 is tight ends coach Jordan Paopao, who served in that same role in 2013 after having worked as a UW grad assistant in 2011 and 2012, when he was also in charge of tight ends. Three of the UWs four graduate assistant coaches are new in 2015, with Joshua Taufalele the only returner. Taufalale, a former New Mexico lineman, helps with the o-line. New to the GA staff are former Boise State receiver Kirby Moore, former Stanford defensive back Terrence Brown and former Kansas State linebacker Hansen Sekona.

STAFF CONTINUITY: Washingtons entire full-time coaching staff remained in tact following the 2014 season, which was coach Chris Petersens first at the UW. He, along with all nine full-time assistants, are back in 2015. Thats actually rare in UW history as the coaching staffs have gone unchanged over two or more seasons only twice before (UW records for coaching staffs go back to the mid-1950s): 1989-90 and 2009-11.

HUSKIES vs. GOLDeN BeARS HISTORY: Washington and California are the only two teams that have played in what is now the Pac-12 Conference in every season since the league was founded in 1916. As that would indicate, theyve played one another quite often. The Huskies hold a 53-38-4 record in the all-time series, which began in 1904. Last year in Berkeley, a 100-yard fumble return from Shaq Thompson and an 86-yard pass to John Ross were the key plays in a 31-7 Husky win. In 2013 in Seattle, UW earned a 41-17 victory behind 241 rushing yards from Bishop Sankey and 376 passing from Keith Price. Both accounted for two TDs. In 2012, the UW earned a 21-13 win thanks largely to second-half TDs from Austin Seferian-Jenkins and Sankey. In 2011 in Seattle, the Huskies held on a late goalline stand to preserve a 31-23 victory as Price threw for three TDs in the Pac-12 opener. In 2010 in Berkeley, the Huskies beat the Bears, 16-13, on the final play of the game, a one-yard run from Chris Polk. In 2009, the Huskies closed out their season with a 42-10 win over the Bears in Seattle. Jake Locker passed for 248 yards and three TDs and rushed for 77 and two more scores. In 2008, Cal won in Berkeley, in another season finale as Jahvid Best ran for 311 yards and four TDs on only 19 carries in a 48-7 Bears win. In 2007, the 37-23 Husky victory broke a streak of five straight Cal wins in the series. Prior to that five-game losing streak, the Huskies had won 19 consecutive games in the series, a streak that began with a 50-31 win in 1977. Before 2002, the last Cal win had come in 1976. Cal and UW first met in 1904,

T E A M N O T E Sbattling to a 6-6 tie in a game played in Seattle. In both 1915 and 1916, they played one another twice each year, with unbeaten Gil Dobies Washington team sweeping the four games. In 1917, Cal broke the UWs 63-game unbeaten streak (still an NCAA record) with a 27-0 win in Berkeley. Other big games in the series include the 1937 game, when the unranked Huskies held No. 1 Cal to a 0-0 tie in Seattle. In 1991, the Bears probably came as close as anyone to beating Washington that national championship season, as Mike Pawlawskis last-gasp pass into the endzone was batted down in a 24-17 UW win. Washington has also posted four of its nine biggest comebacks in history against California. The biggest ever was in 1988, when the Dawgs trailed 27-3 before rallying to win, 28-27. In 1981, Washington was down 21-0 in the third quarter before coming back for a 27-26 victory. A 20-point comeback in 1993 (24-23) and a 14-point rally in 1999 (31-27) also rank on the list. In 2001, the Huskies trailed 21-7 in the first quarter, but came back to earn a 31-28 victory in Berkeley.

WASHINGTON-CALIFORNIA TIeS: Washington assistant head coach and linebackers coach Bob Gregory spent eight seasons as defensive coordinator at California (2002-09) while Washington director of football operations Mike McHugh held the same spot at Cal for 10 seasons. Bears assistant director of operations Zachary Reed worked in a similar role at the UW before moving to Berkeley in 2013. UW secondary coach Jimmy Lake and Cals Greg Burns, also a DBs coach, were on the same staff with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2006. Finally, Cal nutritionist Suzanne Nelson once held the same position at the UW. Cals roster lists four players from the state of Washington: QB Andrew Black (Spokane), QB Ross Bowers (Bothell), LB Devante Downs (Mountlake Terrace) and DE Cameron Saffle. Bowers is the son of UW head gymnastics coach Joanne Bowers. Washingtons roster includes numerous Californians, including 14 from Northern California: Jake Browning (Granite Bay), Ben Burr-Kirven (Menlo Park), K.J. Carta-Samuels (Saratoga), Brian Clay (Vacaville), Darrell Daniels (Pittsburg), Jomon Dotson (American Canyon), Travis Feeney (Richmond), Derek Hunter (Portola Valley), Logan Hurst (Loomis), Kevin King (San Leandro), Scott Lawyer (San Jose), Elijah Qualls (Petaluma), Tony Rodriguez (Stockton), Neel Salukhe (San Jose), Jason Scrempos (Milpitas) and Vita Vea (Milpitas).

HUSKIES vs. BAY AREA SCHOOLS: Washington has a combined, all-time record of 106-79-8 vs. opponents from the San Francisco Bay Area. Washington is 53-38-4 against Cal, 41-40-4 vs. Stanford, 10-0 vs. San Jose State, 1-1 vs. St. Marys and 1-0 vs. Santa Clara. The Huskies havent played Santa Clara since 1935 and St. Marys since 1947. Since 1977, UW is 56-15-0 vs. Bay Area teams: 26-5 vs. Cal, 22-10 vs. Stanford and 8-0 vs. San Jose State.

THe PAC-12: Prior to the 2011 season, the Pac-10 Conference added Utah and Colorado to expand to the Pac-12. Washington, which along with Califor-nia is one of two schools who have been in the conference since its found-ing in 1915, plays in the Pac-12 North, along with the other three Northwest schools (Oregon, OSU, WSU) and Stanford and California. Under current plans, each school will play all five division rivals, plus four of six teams in the other division each season. The first two seasons, the Huskies did not face UCLA or Arizona State. In 2013 and 14, the Huskies didnt face Utah or USC. This year, neither UCLA nor Colorado are on the UW schedule.

CAPTAINS: Washington elected six captains for the season, all seniors: TB Deontae Cooper, OLB Travis Feeney, QB Jeff Lindquist, WR Jaydon Mickens, OL Siosifa Tufunga, DL Taniela Tupou. The UW will also utilize one game cap-taion for each weeks contest. Heres a list of game-by-game captains:

THe 100-YARD FACTOR: Since the 1947 season, Washington is 195-61-3 (.759) when a Husky player rushes for 100 yards in a game. The Huskies were 4-2 in such games last season and are 1-0 this season

HISTORY LeSSON: Successfully rushing the football and winning go hand-in-hand for the Huskies. Since 1990, UW has rushed for 200 yards in a game 96 times. The Huskies record stands at 80-16-1 (.839) in those contests. Since 1995, UW is 55-13-1 (.804) when rushing for 200 yards.

HUSkY STADIUM ReNOVATION: Husky Stadium underwent a major reno-vation over from Nov., 2011, through Aug., 2013, as the entire lower bowl and south upper deck were demolished and replaced. The new facility features a new, state-of-the-art football operations center (weight room, training room, locker room, meeting rooms, coaches offices) in the west end, much more premium seating options and a new playing surface. Husky Stadium had fea-tured a track up until 2011, so seats that were once far from the field, particu-larly in the west end, are much closer to the action. UW is 11-4 at home since the re-opening of Husky Stadium.

ALASkA AIRLINeS FIeLD AT HUSkY STADIUM: The Oregon game on Nov. 5, 2011, marked the final game in Husky Stadium prior to major renova-tions that have now been completed. The Huskies re-opened their home field with a 38-6 win over then-No. 19 Boise State on Aug. 31, 2013. The 2015 season marks the 95th season of play in Husky Stadium. Original construction on the facility was completed in 1920 when Washington played one game in the new campus facility. UWs all-time record in Husky Stadium stands at 369-173-21 (.674).

ACAdEMIC SUCCESSESWashingtons APR (Academic Progress Rate) for football has gone up every year for the last four years in a row: 946 in 2009-10; 949 in 2010-11; 954 in 2011-12; 967 in 2012-13; 977 in 2013-14.

Washingtons most recent APR (977) ranked No. 2 in the Pac-12 Conference, trailing only Stanford (987).

Three UW teams led the Pac-12 in APR in the most recent survey, while eight other UW programs ranked second in the conference.

The UW football team has four returning players who earned some level of Academic All-Pac-12 last season: first-teamer Jake Eldrenkamp (3.65 in busi-ness administration); second-teamer Siosifa Tufunga (3.31 in American ethnic studies); second-teamer Trevor Walker (3.48, pre-arts & sciences); honorable mention Jeff Lindquist (3.47 in business administration).

Washingtons team grade point average for spring, 2015 quarter (the most recently completed full academic period) was 3.08, highest in UW football history. Nine individual football players made the deans List for spring, 2015. In total, 121 UW student-athletes made the Deans List last spring and 67 percent of all student-athletes posted a GPA of 3.00 or better. Seventeen teams had a team GPA of 3.00 or better.
