Calvin Klein … All Wrong!

Kevin Carrigan Does Fall all wrong...don’t get mad at me,I’m just SAYING!

Whatever Kevin’s inspiration was did not translate to the Runway. The collection was uninspired, bland, andout and out boring. The play on texture looked like a child’s craft project gone horribly wrong.

hushRunway for him!FOCUS ON CALVIN KLEIN

The oversized trench coats are shapeless, and look like wardrobe stemming from a Sci-fi movie. I know the90’s are back but I wish Carrigan would have gone down to the basement and pulled a dusty collection off therack. What happened to the ultra-chic minimalist that was Calvin Klein?

You be the judge! You can view the entire Calvin Klein 2010 Fall Menswear collection at www.Style.com andat Calvin Klein’s official website www.CalvinKlein.com.

Love it!

Marc Jacobs can do no Wrong!

Get your men’s suiting here with a fashionable point of view! Marc Jacobs for Louis Vuitton does it again!Fashion meets Luxury! Look after look was classic and elegant with a hint of Masculinity. The color paletteis prefect for Fall. Shades of gray, black, navy with hints of purple paired with camel and brown tones.

I L-O-V-E, love everything that came down the Runway.

Stand out trends; the tailored dress pant with the lace-up boot. The mix of leather, tweed, camel hair, with hitsof fur, plaid, and velvet are pure genius. I’d like to give mention to the panel detailing on the blazers, theequestrian inspired boots, and the chunky knits sweaters.

OH and did I mention bags, bags and more bags? Why, because boys have stuff to carry too! I’m just saying! The over-size back-packs, and the classic all leather messenger bags in matching color palette of thecollection with the classic Louis Vuitton (LV) monogram looking just as chic now as it did in 1854!

n care for the f

ellas!

Use gentle cleanser to unclog the pores and leave your skin feeling fresh. Twice a week exfoliate to remove

dead skin cells. Use an astringent to pick up all product residue, then moisturize with a moisturizer that has a

SPF factor of at least 15 or more. Using sun screen is very important especially in the hot summer days and

even in the winter! The glare from the sun reflecting off snow, can be just a bright and harmful as a sunny

day in July! Enjoy you're new found fountain of youth!

More tips:

- Consider dropping the cigarettes! It’s bad for your skin! It causes wrinkles and yellow hues!

- Eat a balanced diet. Green veggies and fresh fruits are good for your skin!

- Drink plenty of water and do not forget to exercise!

The myth that skin care is for girls only, is just that, A MYTH! Most men are accustomed to believing that skin care

only involves washing their faces (with cheap soaps) and shaving everyday. If you think that do you do not have to do

much else, you are so very 1940’s. In modern days and times, men are starting to pay more attention to their skin.

Just like women, men are prone to dehydration, sun damage, skin cancer and acne! Basic cleansing, protection and

moisturizing after shaving is an effective skin routine that should be practiced daily. There are countless products on

the market meant for men only. (see my top picks on page 31) Caring for your skin is important for your present and

the future. If you want to keep your skin youthful a total skin care regimen is the way to go!

Just like women, men have one of the four skin types - normal skin, oily skin, dry skin or combination skin. The

difference among men and women skin type is texture. Men have tougher skin and more pores. This makes it

extremely important to use products meant just for men and tailored to your skin type.

The perfect regimen: Cleanse, Exfoliate, Astringent and Moisturize.

hushFOR THE MANBoots are back! And they are not just for riding motorcycles or cleaning up the basement after a flood! This fallseason it is all about the tucking! Not the stomach, the pant into the boot! We are seeing a borage of ankle boots, mid calf boots and even a knee high riding boots for men! The boot is the only accessory that you will need thisfall season. Texture is every where for men this season, which is good! Texture will bring depth to yourwardrobe and make you stand out from the crowd. This trend has been passed down to the boot, along with greathardware and color. Here are my top picks for the "kick it trend" which you can find online at www.yoox.comand for the ladies who may be reading this, it's a kick ass site for women too!

It's not the 1980's. It really is 2010! Which is what I discovered when I went on the hunt for some of the season'shottest sweaters. Sweaters are all the rage! People like Kanye west, Common and Pharrell Williams will be happy toknow that! Those brothers are constantly rocking a tight (excuse the pun) sweater! What I find to be highlyfashionable is the fact that the sweaters all have unique necklines and characteristics this fall 2010 season. You canfind the trend almost anywhere! From Target to Saks Fifth Avenue, just mention the trend to a sales stylist and theyshould point you in the right direction! Did I hear a thank you? Don't "sweat it" yo!

hushFOR THE MANby: Madison Dalton Get The LOOK!

No matter what they say, its a recession! It's the perfect time to learn how to create a "look" with basic items.Fashion works best when it has a theme. The theme, story and concept behind fashion is what elevates it to a artform instead of just a pair of jeans and a t-shirt. The theme that we have are going for, the look of the"urban cabin man". When you think of someone kickin' it in a cabin, you think of plaid, long underwear, denimshirts, and sleeping bags. When you think of someone urban you think of fresh cologne, great accessories andsleekness. We have combined these two looks for balance and the result is what you have below!

The right denim is the foundation to a man’s look! The wrong denim can be the “ground work”for a complete failure. There are definite rules to jeans this Fall season. Check out the imagesbelow for options of trendy jeans for you to rock this Fall 2010 season! Here are the threepopular cuts for this season! 1. Relaxed , 2. Slim-Skinny, 3. Rolled Hem It's a more beautifulChicago one pair of men’s denim at a time! The rules of how to wear denim is a HUSH nolonger. Relaxed jeans should be worn paired with a tighter top; i.e. a Henley, (ironed) fittedtee/ vest combo or tucked tee/blazer combo. This idea of contrast creates balance for the eye.Slim-Skinny should be worn with a boxy leather jacket, a textured sweater/button up combo, ora simple loose v neck t-shirt. The rolled hem presents a gray area, enter the right shoe. Whenthinking of shoes to rock with this jean, think laces or sleek.

hisskirtunderPride, and Tradition are just a few of the

reasons why you might find a young lad in Scotland wearing a what some Americanswould call a "skirt" and what most Europeans would call a “kilt.” In larger Americancities such as Chicago, you can find the kilt at your annual Saint Patrick's Day Parade andat your high society Irish wedding. This could be one of the reasons that most American'sthink of the kilt as more of a costume rather than a garment suitable for everyday wear. The kilt is far from a costume, it is a garment that personifies the spirit of men in themost natural way possible.

Kilts are no costume! Men wore kilts in places likeScotland dating back to the 16th Century. Thereare over 1,180,000 hits for the word “kilt” onceentered into a Google search and over 200manufactures who specialize in making traditionalformal and informal kilts. There is even a "kilt"season in Scotland! During the annual HighlandGames (a Olympics of sorts) you will see scores ofmen wearing them and playing traditionalHighland Games in kilts just as they did centuriesago. Yes, for the Super Bowl of Scotland, the menall wear kilts!

They are proud to do so!

Kilts are made in a meticulous fashion. Using 6-8yards of fabric, a 2-2 type twill woven wool andweighing upwards to 18 ounces, making the kilt avery heavy garment to wear.

Kilts also differ in color and pattern by region.Kilts in Ireland are much different from kilts inScotland and so forth. Kilts also are traditionallyworn with accessories and there is a unique way ofof proper dress.

For supporting statistics in writing thisarticle, I reached out to Hector Russell.Hector Russell has been providing kilts tothe proud men of Scotland for over 50years. Recognizing my ignorance for thetrue meaning behind the kilt, the finefolks at Hector Russell encouraged me tocheck out two websites, kiltmen.com andfotoflingscotland.co.uk.

Kiltmen.com exposed me to anotherentity in reference to the kilt. Most menwho wear the garment feel it is their rightas true Scotsmen to do so.

Traditionally the kilt should be wornwithout any underwear. This allows mento be free and unrestricted. In fact someScotsmen consider trousers to be"tyranny" citing that trousers confine theone thing that makes a man a man.

Page 76: Hush Chicago Magazine - October/Issue 8

Eager to see the photographs thatdepicted this notion, I instantly fell inlove with the images I saw from thecollection entitled a Kilted Life byRichard Findlay.

Mel Gibson in Braveheart,Marc Jacobs on the runway and eventhe men who walk in Chicago's muchhyped Saint Patrick's Day paradewearing kilts, have nothing on thesemen who epitomize masculinitywhile wearing what we Americanscall a "pleated skirt"!

Richard Findlay, is a lawprofessional by day. He shoots with aCanon SLR 5D + 20D + Tii 500Dand a Ixus 40. He has an unique wayof processing his images, with oneglance you can feel the color jumpout at you!

Richard is a quick shooter and seemsto have no problem capturing amoment containing feeling and pride.

Page 77: Hush Chicago Magazine - October/Issue 8

On review of his collection, I got thefeeling that Mr. Findlay looks forphoto opportunities to present thatstrong masculine pride which hasbeen passed down to new generationsdating back several centuries.

Images from fotoflingscotland.co.ukare nothing short of stunning!

He shows you the fashionable side ofthe kilt which is deeply rooted inScottish history!

Men were wearing kilts withsweatshirts, t-shirts and work bootsas if the kilt was a jean pant. It is thejean of Scotland!

When women decide to take on a

masculine job, it comes as no surprise that they haveto be good to earn respect from their male peers. Some women get lost in the cycle of earning respectthat they forget their own individual unique personalstyle and fashion sense. Chicago Celebrity DJ SunDance is clearly not one of those women! Which iswhy Chicago's "tightest" female DJ is our ChicagoFashion Icon for the month of October!

I got a chance to interview one of my good friends,Sun Dance (born Erika Campbell) while she wasspinning in an all Female DJ set at The Family DenLounge on Chicago's South side. Sun Dance hasearned the right to be called Chicago's "tightest"Female DJ. She was the first female to ever DJ onChicago's infamous V103 Radio Station, a positionthat she held for 10 years! She also has a gold recordfor her house hit "Get Up." (certified by RIAA andBillboard) At age 17, she was touring around theworld, she served as a celebrity judge for the FoxMorning News segment Chicago Idol and has woncountless awards while maintaining a career as ahairstylist and makeup artist.

Sun Dances' style is extremely unique. She dressesfrom the hairstyle down! Her one of a kindhairstyles and her signature hot pink eyeshadowhave become her trademark. She does notdisappoint! Short hair, long hair, shaved head..she isnot afraid to show what she feels inside! Sun Dancehas a loyal base of party goers who love to hear hersets! She has fellow Chicago Celeb/TV Judge, GregMathis dancing! Sun Dance is his official wrap partyDJ. Giving us a double dose of music, and style iswhy we consider her to be a Chicago Fashion Icon!

Your bill comes with asmall paper bag instead of theblack tray with a visa/mastercardlogo. After I accepted the fact thatI had left Chicago and that I was ina new land, I decided to have myfavorite Cuban dish. Somethingthat I knew I could really give agreat opinion on. Our Food &Travel Editor was currently out oftown, so I was delighted to take onthis assignment!

So I am inclined to want toexperience the taste of Cuba righthere in Chicago any day! I willencourage you to do the same!

If you have read every issue of Hush ChicagoMagazine up to this point, then you are well awareof the strength of this issue. Unlike most fashion Mags,Hush Chicago Magazine is a different magazine alltogether! We have masculine elements to what we do.There is nothing soft, prime or proper about HushChicago Magazine. I decided that this magazine wouldbe its own man and never follow in it's fashionforefathers footsteps. The sign of a real man is not thenumber of times he fails, but the number of times that heget's back up from that failure! Every month we aresubject to failure, we are subject to criticism and everymonth we get right back up better than before, in similarfashion of a young man reaching for his destiny! Hisvery fashionable destiny! We are all about the fashion around here, and we believethat it is the basis of our manhood. It should also be thebasis for whom you are and your own unique individualview. 30% of Hush Chicago Magazine readers are male!Which is a true sign that we are not our father's fashionmagazine. Hush Chicago Magazine mixes fashion withsocialism and not fashion with fantasy. This gives us anunique edge while we create a new genre and our own nichein the fashion industry. Socialism is non-gender. Do not copywhat we do. We recommend that you have the balls to befearless and think outside the box no matter how crazysomeone thinks it is! Hush Chicago Magazine has stayed trueto original ideas and presenting Chicago and Fashion in anentirely different way! We have earned respect! Our layouts are easy on the eye, direct and to the point. Clean cutjust like a well dressed man! What better way to honor this metaphor, than with an issue dedicated to all things masculine! Men are taking amore prominent role in fashion and fashion insiders have taken notice.Chicago is the perfect place to explore fashion for men! We have anactive social scene here and four seasons for men to take advantage offrom a fashionable stand point. So look for the next issues of Hush ChicagoMagazine to be stronger and more focused, Hush has happened and man ohman, I am so glad it did! Don't you just LOVE a good HUSH?- Ogi Merzier
