GuideThis trail was constructed with financial assistancefrom the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund &the Michigan Department of Transportation.

Great Lakes freighters load stone from the Calcite Quarry,the world's largest open pit limestone mine. The plant'scrusher, stone conveyors and stockpiles are also visible fromHarbor View.

1: Harbor View

2: Harbor View RoadThis private gravel road provides seasonal access to HarborView. The gate is open during summer daylight hours.

A half-mile of Lake Huron shoreline provides swimming,beachcombing, and kayak launching. Four softball and LittleLeague diamonds are open for public use. A children'splayscape and picnic area make this park popular withfamilies. Young and old alike can enjoy the Fossil Park: theRogers City area has fossils dating back to the DevonianPeriod. Over 359 million years ago, this was once a shallowinland sea. Enjoy digging and fill your pockets with fossils!

3: South Shore Park/Fossil Park

The fine Craftsman-style bungalows on Lake Street were builtin the early 1900's by US Steel to house company executiveswho worked nearby at the Calcite quarry and port.

4: Bungalow Row

Rogers City's pride and joy, with swimming and picnickingfacilities along with beach volleyball, an extensiveplayground and the Rogers City Band and Performance Shell.Outdoor concerts in the park are held during the summer.The Sailors' Memorial, and the Avenue of Flags leading fromit, honors local men who perished in shipwrecks on the GreatLakes.

5: Lakeside Park

The Pavilion Grill, located in Lakeside Park, serves ice cream,burgers, salads, and drinks, with deck seating overlookingLake Huron. The adjacent picnic pavilion may be reserved forgroup celebrations. Open seasonally.

6: The Pavilion Grill

The City's small boat harbor with 92 seasonal and 34transient slips is a delightful place to stroll. Watch boatlaunch action from the gazebo.

7: Rogers City Marina

Try your luck with Rogers City salmon on the fishingplatform, located on the Marina's outer breakwall, or see agreat sunset from the breakwall.

8: Breakwater Path and Fishing Platform

The trail wraps around the Rogers City Sewage TreatmentPlant. Wire mesh rock-filled gabions protect the plant fromhigh water and frame the view over Lake Huron.

9: Public Works Park

Built on an old railroad right-of-way, this park now offersbeach and picnic areas. Note adjacent motel, bar, andrestaurant.

10: North Shore Park

From Linden Street, turn east on Riverview Street one blockto see the Trout River entering Lake Huron at Riverview Park.

12: Seagull PointSunsets are spectacular at Seagull Point. Picnic facilities areavailable with great views of the Rogers City shoreline.

This park features a mile of pristine beach and dunes.Fossilized corals are found on this beach. The paved trailtravels through unspoiled forest, bridging two streams. Foottrails provide beach access.

13: Seagull Point Park

The trail follows the banks of the Trout River through amature mixed conifer and hardwood forest, crossing theTrout River Bridge and entering a meadow picnic area.

14: Trout River Park

Seven miles of hiking, biking and ski paths connect to theHuron Sunrise Trail in this 270-acre preserve.

15: Herman Vogler Conservation Area

A trailhead picnic area is located on a point overlooking thedam and pond on Trout River. The impoundment providesexcellent wildlife and waterfowl habitat.

16: Pond Overlook

The trail travels one half mile on street before entering apublic beach along US 23.

17: Shore Road

A picnic table nestled in the pines gives majestic vistas overLake Huron. The trail winds through dune and shore areas.

This magnificent 300-acre State Park with 1-mile of beach,143 campsites, 2 swim beaches, 2 playgrounds, 2 modernbathrooms/shower buildings, one mini-cabin and a Sears andRoebuck Modern lodge. The Modern Lodge and Mini-cabinare open all year. The park is on the National Register ofHistoric Places. The day use pavilion is a beautiful setting forweddings/family reunions! The pavilion is a rustic stone andlog structure constructed in 1937 by the CCC. All motorvehicles must have a valid motor vehicle permit for entry.

20: PH Hoeft State Park

The 1896 lighthouse features a restored bunkhouse, giftshop, the Calcite Pilothouse, picnic area and beach. OpenMemorial Day weekend through mid-October.Glawe School was built in 1885 by Christian Glawe. The oneroom schoolhouse was built in 1885 and is located in 40MilePoint Lighthouse Park. Open Saturday and Sunday 12-4 inthe summer. If the flag is up, the school is open.

This massive boulder of Engadine dolomite, measuring 20' X8' X 6', was deposited along the shore when the last glacierreceded from the Great Lakes. The Indians believed it wassacred and were known to make sacrifices at the rockwhenever they passed up or down the lake.
