The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office reports that on Sept. 5, a 12-year-old girl walking on the Rattan Creek Park trail near the bridge near West Parmer Lane and Rattan Park was accosted by a man who grabbed the girl’s arm and only let go when one of the girl’s friends approached them.

The man is described as a white male in his late 30s, 6’0” with short brown hair. He has a large tattoo on his left shoulder extending down to his chest containing “old English script” and long finger nails.

This is a composite sketch of the suspect.

‘Stranger Danger’ Awareness Tips

The incident on the Rattan Creek Park trail drives home an unfortunate fact: Living in a “nice neighborhood” is no guarantee against criminal activity, as criminals are actually counting on residents to let their guard down because it is such a nice, safe place to live.

Help children recognize the warning signs of suspicious behavior, such as when an adult asks them to disobey parents or do something without permission, asks them to keep a secret, asks children for help, or makes them feel uncomfortable in any way. Tell your children that an adult should never ask a child for help, and if one does ask for their help, teach them to find a trusted adult right away to tell what happened.

In addition to teaching children how to recognize and handle dangerous situations and strangers, there are other things parents can do to help their children stay safe and avoid dangerous situations.

Know where your children are at all times. Make it a rule that your children must ask permission or check in with you before going anywhere. Give your children your work and cell phone numbers so they can reach you at all times.

Point out safe places. Show your children safe places to play, safe roads and paths to take, and safe places to go if there’s trouble.

Teach children to trust their instincts. Explain that if they ever feel scared or uncomfortable, they should get away as fast as they can and tell an adult. Tell them that sometimes adults they know may make them feel uncomfortable, and they should still get away as fast as possible and tell another adult what happened. Reassure children that you will help them when they need it.

Teach your children to be assertive. Make sure they know that it’s okay to say no to an adult and to run away from adults in dangerous situations.

Encourage your children to play/walk with others. There’s safety in numbers!

Pool Closes for the Season in OctoberThe Hunter’s Chase pool is officially closed for the season on

Monday, October 19. Make sure to get your last swim in by Sunday, October 18. The pool will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. that day.

Clothes moths can cause considerable damage to materials containing wool, fur or other animal-derived products. There are two common clothes moths, case making clothes moths and webbing clothes moths. The names describe the larval (caterpillar) stage of the moth. Case-making clothes moths spin silken cases that they drag along with them while they feed. Webbing clothes moths feed within silken burrows that they spin over the surface of fabric.

Adults are small, tan moths about 3/8 an inch long. They are weak fliers and avoid light. Larvae like to feed in protected areas, such as folded clothing, and rarely leave their food source.

To reduce or avoid clothes moth problems, the following tips may be helpful:
