This planting with the Friends of Holden Flora Reserve will extend the wildlife habitat across the slope, which can’t be mowed easily. A good workout is guaranteed, and you’ll earn your free lunch. Take the winding footpath down the hill to the planting site.

Tree-rific Triangle with Friends of Blind Creek10am – 12.30pm, Sunday 21 Mayend of Kathryn Court, Sunbury (Melway 381 K1)

Around a large gum tree, the Friends of Blind Creek will plant out a triangular area with shrubs, groundcovers and wildflowers. A free lunch to follow. Car-parking available either on Kathryn Court or Kerrisdale Place.

Trees provide numerous benefits, from providing oxygen, shade, shelter and wildlife habitat, acting as carbon stores, to filtering water and protecting soils from erosion, or simply looking beautiful. So many great reasons to plant more trees at Bulla Hill Railway, with a free BBQ for lunch.

Final Flourishes at Friends of Emu Bottom Wetland10am – 12.30pm, Sunday 28 May Homestead Way (use the walkway to the Reserve), Sunbury (Melway 362 G6)

The Friends of Emu Bottom Wetland will finish off planting the bottom of the slope, where the Melbourne Water funded works have occurred. Enter the reserve through the laneway at the end of Homestead Way and follow the flags to the planting site. A free lunch will be provided.

Rejuvenating Ripplebrook1pm – 3.30pm, Sunday 4 JuneFriends of Upper Moonee Ponds Creek Ripplebrook Drive (near Johnstone Street), Westmeadows (Melway 6 D8)

Several existing mulched garden beds along Ripplebrook Drive will be rejuvenated, with various understorey species to be planted. The Friends of Upper Moonee Ponds Creek will put on their delicious Devonshire afternoon tea.

Western Water has kindly awarded a Sammy’s Water Week grant to the Friends of Blind Creek to run another Waterway Education Day, with Sunbury West Primary School. Come along to help trun the planting activity for the students. Free lunch provided.

Sighing Sheoaks10am – 1.30pm, Friday 16 June Jackson’s Hill, The Heights, Sunbury (Melway 382 D9)

It’s lovely listening to the wind sigh through Drooping Sheoak. This dry, rocky, hill-top is a perfect place to plant more Sheoaks, along with some other indigenous trees and shrubs. Free lunch will be provided.

Beautifying Blind Creek10am – 12.30pm, Sunday 18 June Olive Grove, near the park, Sunbury (Melway 381 K1)

The Friends of Blind Creek continue their fabulous work to beautify the creek, this time doing a planting near the small park on Olive Grove, followed by a free lunch. Restoring the riparian

vegetation along the southern creek bank is a long-term planting focus.
