Course Outline

Humanities is a combination of three subjects: English Language Arts, Social Studies, and Christian Education, which at times overlap. To understand our society and culture, we must first understand some of the civilizations of the past. Topics to be covered: Christian Education: Focus on Old Testament through a study of Creation Stories, Patriarchs,

Prophets, Covenant, the Ten Commandments and the Law, seasonal topics and religious vocabulary.

English: Grammar and language mechanics, paragraph and essay writing, structure of novel

and short story, poetry interpretation and creation. Social Studies: Geography, World Cultures, Feudalism (Middle Ages), Mercantilism and

Infrastructure (European Renaissance), Rise of Technology (Asian influences) *topics covered may change Skills to be developed:

Note taking (Cornell Note Taking system) Research and project skills will be reviewed and emphasized Reading for comprehension – Primary and Secondary sources Responding correctly to written questions Thinking critically

*skills developed may change Textbooks: Pathways (Social Studies), Written On Our Hearts (Christian Education), and an

assortment of other texts, novels and articles. A Bible will also be required and is provided.
