At the start of the game, listen to the good Professor talk about thegame controls and adventure information if you wish, but otherwise, choose thethird option to continue (click the red box on the bottom screen to back up outof the first dialogue choice, and just hit the text in the second one tofinish). Afterwards, tap the center of the Pokball for Professor Rowan to showoff Munchlax in an exposition. Once he's finished, choose either the male or

female character by highlighting and then selecting them (whichever you choosewill not determine the course of the story or gameplay).

Choose a name for your character, confirm it, then use either one of thedefault names for your rival or choose his name as well. For the course of thiswalkthrough, we shall refer to him as Rival. Confirm his name as well, and thenyou will be shrunk and put into the game world.

-------------Twinleaf Town------------- Watch the TV program, which is talking about a red Gyrados in hidings.Afterwards, head down the staircase, and you will be met with by your mother, whom shall have you be running after your Rival. Exit the house (with a warningthat will not apply for any longer than five minutes), then go to thenorthwestern house in Twinleaf Town. Rival will pop out once you approach andthen head back inside. Follow after him, and go up the staircase in his house tohis room on the second floor. After the conversation is done, make yourleave and continue outside again, then head north and into the Route 201 Area.

---------Route 201--------- Proceed north again and you shall encounter your Rival once again. Afterhe is done talking, he will tag up with you again. Now head west (Rival willstop you from heading east for the moment), then go north and enter into theforest/lake area.

    |Piplup | Water | 5 | N/A | N/A | N/A | Gift only |

Inside, you will automatically have an encounter with Professor Rowanand either Lucas (if you are a girl) or Dawn (if you are a boy). The two shalltake their leave, giving you the opportunity to choose your own Pokmon. You hadbetter make it a good one, as a Starly will attack you at that moment. Below isa brief profile of each of the starter Pokmon and their evolution chain.

    ____________________|#001 Turtwig - Grass|

Turtwig is an effective all-around balanced Pokmon, knowing Withdrawright from the start, and learns Absorb and Razor Leaf at Levels 9 and 13.Coupled with the Overgrow ability, which allows it's Grass attacks to increasein power by 1.5 when HP is low, makes an effective early fighter, and it evolvesinto Grotle at Level 18 and Torterra at Level 32, the latter of which willbe Grass/Ground type, and will be effective in Gyms 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8.

    ____________________|#004 Chimchar - Fire|

  • 7/23/2019 Http- Portable Ds File Pokemon Dp c

    3/533

Chimchar focuses on attack, and can learn Leer, Taunt, Facade, and CalmMind as well as a variety of other physical and Fire attacks. The ability Blazeallows his Fire attacks to deal 1.5x damage at low HP, but it's real claim tofame is it's early evolution - evolving at Level 14 to Monferno (though it onlyevolves to Infernape at Level 36). These latter two forms are also Fightingtype, much like the previous generation's Fire-starter's evolution chain, withother attacks learnable like Feint, In Fight, and Punish. This makes him usefulin Gyms 1 (once evolved), 2, 5, 6, and 7. I HIGHLY recommend taking Chimcharbecause, besides Ponyta/Rapidash, he is the ONLY Fire-type that you will be ableto obtain in the game until you have seen all 150 Sinnoh Pokmon, and Fire-typesare very much needed in the regular game of Diamond/Pearl.

___________________|#007 Piplup - Water| Piplup is basically the "advanced player's Pokmon" of theDiamond/Pearl generation, with a very poor early attack range ranging fromBubble to Bide - not exactly the greatest variety. However, once he evolves toPrinplup at level 16, things look up a bit, with attacks such as Metal Claw andBubblebeam, and Empoleon (whom is evolved to at Level 36) has a second type ofSteel, and can learn good attacks such as Aqua Jet, Mist, and Drill Peck. Thus, this Pokmon is generally not very useful in gyms, likely only being effectivein Gyms 1, 5, 6, and 7.

After you make your pick of Pokmon (and in traditional fashion, yourRival will choose the Pokmon that yours is weak to), you will have to fend offa Level 2 Starly. At this point in time, I believe that you will not need astrategy considering the lopsided power of your own Pokmon, so just attackuntil the Starly falls. Once done, Lucas/Dawn will come back to meet you andtake the suitcase back. Head back south and leave the forest.

---------Route 201--------- Head east from here, and you will encounter Professor Rowan and

Lucas/Dawn again. After you finish your small talk, you shall then beautomatically transported back to your house in Twinleaf Town.

Your mother will now send you off to Sandgem Town, and gives you theRunning Shoes to go with it. With these shoes, you can now press B to run, whichshould aid you in making the long journey just a little less tedious with thewalking. Exit the house and leave the town north, and from now on, if you needto heal up your Pokmon while around here, head over to your mom to get themrecovered.

For now, you will not be able to capture any wild Pokemon, owing to yourlack of Pokeballs to capture them with. In the future, you will have them, but

you can only fight Pokemon for EXP and EVs currently. You can heal up at yourmother's place back in Twinleaf Town by talking to your mother.

After entering Route 201, head east along the path that Rival blockedyou from moving earlier. Once you make it past the first section of grass, continue along the dirt road a slight ways, then head north and east throughsome more grass. Talk to the person standing in the grass here to get a freecomplimentary Potion. Eventually, you should just be able to stroll from thereright into Sandgem Town.

Once you arrive in town, you will come face-to-face with Lucas/Dawn,again. Rival will exit the nearby building and leave, and inside, ProfessorRowan will let you keep your own Pokmon as a gift. At this point, you can also

nickname it. He then asks you the perennial question: do you wish to journeyShinnoh and help him in catologuing Pokmon? Accept, and he will give you thePokdex, and send you off. Lucas/Dawn will also receive the third Pokmon of theinitial trio, making a secondary rival for you.

Outside, Lucas/Dawn will take you around for a little more sightseeing, showing off the PokMart and Pokmon Center. Afterwards, s/he will head to thenortheast exit to Route 202 and block it off...for now. At this point, if youwish to, you can also head to the PokMart here to pick up some Pok Balls;however, you will be getting some for free relatively shortly.

Items in PokMarts operate slightly different in Diamond/Pearl than inprevious generations. All PokMarts will have the same items, but you can onlybuy some items after you get specific Gym Badges - hence, the four items listedhere are the only four you can buy at this point in the game.

Head down to the southeast corner of Sandgem Town and head south ontothe beach, with the proper designation of Route 219.

    ---------Route 219---------_____

There is not much here that you can do, as the rest of the route isblocked off by water you cannot cross over and rocks you cannot break. Pick upthe item Pokeball for an Antidote, then head back into Sandgem Town and makeyour way west across Route 201 back to Twinleaf Town.

Continue north and then west through the grasses, and you will meet upwith Lucas/Dawn again. Lucas/Dawn will teach you the conventions of battling andcapturing a Pokmon, so if you are new to the series, pay attention. After somewords from him/her, s/he shall then give you five Pok Balls, and finallyleaves.

Now that we are on our merry way, it should be noted that this is an

appropriate time to catch some Pokmon for general battling, as if you only haveyour Starter right now, things may get tough in the future. Picking up one ofeach species in the area before you go on is a good idea, along with trainingeach of them to Level 4 or Level 5. Bidoof you will probably find to be useless(but can still be utilized as a very useful HM whore), but Starly and Shinx eachwill be relatively useful for those just wanting to make it through the game, with no multiplayer; the former species will learn a number of Flying techniquesand can spam status moves, while the latter can learn Dark-type moves inaddition to Electric moves to destroy any Psychic-types you may encounter.Kricketot is also useful, especially if you can get one holding Metronome. Youwill certainly find better Pokemon later on, but the three mentioned here can befairly useful for some time.

After you are done, continue west and north through the grass, then tryto head east and you will meet up and battle your very first trainer - YoungsterTristan.

_________________|Youngster Tristan| This battle is pretty easy to win, given that he has only a Level 5Starly. Send out either your own Starly or a Shinx, as either of them cancounter the effects of his Growl with Growl and Leer, respectively. After thebattle of altrition is over and Tristan's Starly starts attacking, respond in

favor the next turn. The only other note here is the enemy Starly's Quick Attack- if your own Pokmon does not have enough health to sustain another attack (andit is not a Starly with Quick Attack and higher Speed stats), switch it out, asQuick Attack always strikes first.

With the battle over, continue east along the dirt road. You will becaught by the next trainer in line, Lass Natalie.

____________|Lass Natalie| Let's face it - if you have been doing any sort of training whatsoever,

Natalie's Pokmon lineup will be a basic joke, given the two Bidoofs' lowlevels. As such, you should treat them as fodder to gain a bit of experiencepoints for once you reach Jubilife City. Just send out a Pokmon, and attackattack attack until your opposition falls.

Once finished, continue north through the field of grass. Try tocontinue west, and you will be forced to battle the last of the triad oftrainers in Route 202; Youngster Logan.

    _______________|Youngster Logan|

By this point in time, your Pokmon should have gone up a few levelsfrom the previous battles and random encounters. As Logan's Shinx is onlyLevel 5, it does not yet know any Electrical techniques, so send out a Starly ifyou want to. Otherwise, this should not be too difficult of a battle.

Now that you have defeated all the trainers in Route 202, head straightwest from your original position to the northwest position. Here, grab a Potionfrom a Pokball lying on the grass patch, then go back east just a bit and headnorth. Right before the steps, head left to the tree and up into the far end

space next to the wall, and click A to find a hidden Paralyz Heal (you will notbe able to find hidden items on your own until you find the Itemfinder). After, head up into Jubilife City.

Here, you shall meet up with Lucas/Dawn again. S/he will give you thenumber of Pokmon that you have caught so far, then takes her leave afterinforming you of your Rival's current location - at the Trainer School righthere in Jubilife City.

The best way to find your Rival is to use its relative location -

  • 7/23/2019 Http- Portable Ds File Pokemon Dp c

    9/533

opposite the street from the Pokmon Center in town. Enter the building, andinside, talk to Rival, whom is at the blackboard. You will lose the Parcel, butin turn, shall obtain a Town Map. He will mark his next objective as OreburghCity, then leaves the school. Before leaving the place, talk to the two trainerson the blue carpet in here to fight them. Answer yes to fight each of them.

___________________|School Kid Harrison| Given that School Kid Harrison only has a single Abra, and his Abra hasonly a single attack, it should be considered a one-trick pony. The only thingthat should be considered is that your Pokmon with lower Special Defense statsmay not be able to inflict serious damage, so bring in someone with a decentphysical attack but also reasonable Special Defense.

____________________|School Kid Christine| See strategy above for School Kid Christine, considering it is the exactsame battle.

After winning both battles, talk to School Kid Harrison again, and hewill give you TM 10, Hidden Power. Now that you have done what you can here, exit back outside onto the streets. Try to head north, and you will be stopped

    by a man whom will offer you a Poktch/Pokmon Watch in exchange for threePokwatch coupons held by three clowns hiding around town. You will want to graba Poktch, because it can offer a number of applications that are really useful.Each clown is wearing a yellow suit and yellow hat with white balls, so here aretheir locations;

    1) Walking around right behind the nearby Pokmon Center 2) Hanging out in front of the TV station (far northwest section of the town, has a giant TV screen over the building) 3) West a ways from the TV station, wandering around in front of the Pokwatch Company

Answer "Yes" to all three of their questions, and in turn they will each

give you a coupon. Once you have obtained all three Pokwatch coupons, head backto the man who accosted you earlier near the Pokmon Center, and exchange themfor a Pokwatch.

Head north past where the PokeMart is, and into the Jubilife Condominiumtower. Inside, talk to the lady sitting down at the table to obtain a Quick Clawfrom her.

With all that done, there is only one thing left to do around herebefore we leave. Head to the northern part of Jubilife and go all the way westinto the border check area. In here, talk to the fisherman and answer yes to getthe Old Rod. While it is almost completely useless, it DOES allow you to catchMagikarp, which, once trained to a sufficient level, can evolve into the more

    powerful Gyrados.

There are a couple of optional directions that you can go right now. Youcould go west past the checkpoint and onto Route 218, or you could go north toRoute 204. However, Route 218 is a basic dock, where you cannot catch anyPokemon or grab any items, while Route 204 currently leads to a dead end, butwill be visited shortly in the future. For now, just head east, and out ontoRoute 203.

For those looking to catch an Abra, I would not bother trying too hardto try and catch one. In the city coming up, you will find a girl who will tradeher Abra for a Machop, which you will be able to capture in the wild shortly.

Right after entering Route 203, you will be instantly accosted by yourRival, who will then challenge you to a Pokmon battle. Prepare yourself, andbegin the battle of the titans._____|Rival| Bring into the match your own starting Pokmon to counter Starly. Thisis because (with the exception of if you have Piplup), Rival's own starter willhave a move that your's is weak to, and you do not want to put yourself into

that predicament. This is why you instead want to use your own starter nowagainst Starly. Deal with him thus, by first using whatever current stat-changing moves you have for a turn or two, then take out Starly.

Once your Rival sends out his starter, retaliate with multiple stat-lowering moves (if you are using Turtwig, then merely attack). Once your starteris taken out of the match, your ideal next choice will be your own Starly fortwo reasons - the first is that using Quick Attack, you can avert undesirableresults and get a fast hit in. The second is that if you are facing Turtwig, andStarly is at least Level 9, you can use it's Wing Attack for super-effectivedamage against Turtwig. Either way, Rival's starter should already be batteredenough by now, so take it out.

After you have obtained victory and your Rival runs off, head straightnorth between two sections of forest to face off against the Youngster Michael.

_________________|Youngster Michael| The first part of the battle should not be too difficult - just sendsomeone in and take out Michael's Bidoof in short order. No, it is the next partthat you should be worried about, as Zubat is Poison and Flying, two type

  • 7/23/2019 Http- Portable Ds File Pokemon Dp c

    12/533

attributes that you should not yet have any attacks that are super-effectiveagainst.

Additionally, Zubat can use Supersonic, which can confuse your ownPokmon and cause it to attack itself. To counter this, I suggest you bring insomebody with a good attack and speed that can take out Zubat in two hits, before it can use Leech Life to restore itself, or Supersonic to pit yourPokmon against itself.

Finally done with the battle, head around clockwise from Tomoki to finda Pokball lying on the ground. Pick it up to obtain an item Pok Ball, thenjump off of the nearby ledge. Now, head east along the path and up the firstflight of staircases, and you will encounter Youngster Dallas.

________________|Youngster Dallas| Dallas will send out a Kricketot, which is a pure Bug type. Send outChimchar, and destroy it with Ember. Lacking Chimchar, send out a Starly that isat least Level 9, and do a one-turn kill with Wing Attack. Simple as that, andBide won't come into effect for at least a few turns, making the insuranceagainst any damage even less mandatory.

Now that the battle is done, head right and up the next flight ofstairs. You can dodge this next trainer if you want by walking alongside thebottom or top strip of land, but if you want to fight, well, here is thestrategy for the next trainer; Lass Kaitlin.

____________|Lass Kaitlin| Of course, you STILL won't have anything that is super-effective againstBidoof's type attributes, but given the species' general lack of stats inANYTHING, and it only being Level 4, you can send out anything you want toagainst it, so long as it has an attack.

After Bidoof falls, Kaitlin will send out either her Starly or herBudew. If it is a Starly she sends out, resist the urge to send out your ownStarly / Chimchar if you have one, and send out somebody else to counter it.Again, given it is only Level 4, it should not take too much of an effort todefeat it.

With her Budew, given it's Bug/Poison type, you have two choices. Youcan either use a Chimchar if you have one complete with Ember, or you could useStarly to utilize a Wing Attack. Or you could just send out something completelyneutral to it's type attributes. Just be sure that whatever you utilize has adecent chunk of health left, as Budew knows Absorb, which can steal a handfulof your own health and add it to hers.

Next up, continue along to the southeast corner to face off againstYoungster Sebastian. This is another battle though that can be avoided, so longas you make sure to run past him while he is looking in a direction other thanyours.

    ___________________|Youngster Sebastian|

  • 7/23/2019 Http- Portable Ds File Pokemon Dp c

    13/533

Start the battle off with a flying-type Pokmon (aka. Starly, the onlyflyer available to you at this point in time), and use Wing Attack against hisMachop. Even if he manages to get a Low Kick on you, it won't do super-effectivedamage against Starly's Normal-type.

Since that battle was ended so prematurely, continue to head up north. You can walk around the back of the last trainer to avoid her. Otherwise, prepare to face off against Lass Madeline.

_____________|Lass Madeline| The real worry in this battle is that Starly knows Quick Attack, whichmeans Madeline will spam it, which means Starly will always attack first. Thetwo ways that you can counter this is to either bring in your own Starly to useQuick Attack (higher speed will have more precedence) or a Pokmon out of herStarly's league, meaning it can win in a few turns. Since you have likely used aStarly up already, try something else.

Afterwards, she will bring out a Bidoof. As we all know, Bidoof sucks,so send out whatever you need to and defeat it.

Now that we are done with the retinue of trainers in Route 203, headnorth and west down the small stairs, then grab the Pokball lying on the groundhere for a Repel. Now that this is all over, I recommend you go back to thePokmon Center in Jubilife City first and heal up. That said, go into the cavevia the entrance east of Lass Madeline.

I do, however, recommend that you teach one of your Normal-typePokmon Rock Smash, so it can deal with all the Rock-types that you will facevery soon, along with a couple of Shinxes. Instead, head east to fight twoconsecutive battles.

    _____________|Camper Curtis|

Camper Curtis' lone Pokmon, a Shinx, is reasonably leveled. However, because it knows only Tackle and Leer, you can probably overpower it easily; infact, if you are trying to level up some of the weaker Pokmon like a Bidoof toevolve it for Pokdex completion before you put it away, now is a good time toteach Bidoof Rock Smash, a Fighting-type move. Given its type attribute, it alsomeans it will be super-effective against Shinx, an electric-type.

Continue right a bit to fight again._______________|Picnicker Diana| I would not be too worried about either of Diana's Pokmon. Psyduck's

only real move is Scratch, which does negligible amounts of damage, and Subimois a Bug Pokmon, again weak to both Fire and Flying attacks. Just bring out apair of Pokmon that you wish to level up and use Diana's lineup as experiencepoint fodder.

Having finished both battles, continue on outside into Oreburgh City.

-------------Oreburgh City------------- Once you enter town from the Gate area, you should encounter a

Youngster. He will guide you over to the Oreburgh Gym, where you can meet upwith your Rival again, whom expresses disappointment as the Gym Leader iscurrently in the Oreburgh Mine. I believe that makes our next direction prettyclear-cut. Let us take a side-stop to Route 207 first, however. This is north oftown. Make a Pokemon Center visit first if you have to.

Inside, head right from the entrance to open an item Pokball to obtainan X Defend. Now head down the three flights of dirt staircases, and enter theheart of the mine itself.

Deep into the mine, head left from the entrance, then go south and offthe ledge. Continue down until you get to the southwest corner, and pick up thePokball for an Escape Rope. If you want to, talk to the nearby miner to faceoff against Worker Colin.

____________|Worker Colin| Given that both of Colin's Pokmon are Rock-types, it means that youcannot expect a Normal-type attack to hurt. Instead, you'll have to use otherattacks, such as Rock Smash or Bubble, or neutral attacks such as Kricketot'sBide, or its evolution's Fury Cutter. Other than that, I cannot really offer anyadvice, other than to watch out for Onix's Bind - it can and WILL hurt.

After the battle, continue right some more, then talk to the guy inbetween two rocks wearing a red hardhat. This is the Oreburgh Gym Leader,Roark. After he uses Rock Smash on one of the rocks, he will invite you to

battle him in the gym. Once he leaves, head right and then go north, opening thePokball on the way to get a Potion. Talk to the guy in front of the rock facingthe wall if you want to face Worker Mason.

____________|Worker Mason| This is a ridiculously easy fight. Bring in a Flying-type (aka yourStarly most likely), and use a Flying-type attack. Battle over in two attackstops.

Now that that is over, continue going around the room counterclockwise, then head north and exit out the way you came in. Continue up north through the

gave and outside back into Oreburgh City.

-------------Oreburgh City------------- Now that we have gotten Roark back into the gym, we have some lastminute preparations to make. Go the Pokmon Center, and pick up Potions whereneeded.

PRE-BATTLE PREPARATIONS: For your Pokmon list, definitely bring yourstarter. If your starter was Chimchar, evolve it to Monferno at Level 14 so itcan gain Mach Punch, a Fighting-type move. If your starter was Piplup, you may

also wish to evolve it at Level 16 to gain the useful Metal Claw, a Steel-typemove. Other useful Pokmon to use are Kricketune (evolution of Kricketot) whichwill have Fury Cutter and Leech Life, Budew if you decided to grab one off ofRoute 204 (learns Mega Drain at Level 13), and anything that can learn RockSmash (another Fighting-type move). Taking in a Machop from Route 207, from thenorth of the city, is also a very feasible idea, because, again, Fighting beatsRock.

After you have finished organizing a reasonable party, head off to thegym.

Head north after your first victory to face off against the secondguardian.

________________|Youngster Darius| Youngster Darius has two instead of one Pokmon in his lineup, but theyARE weaker. This can actually be used as a fodder match, so bring out one of

    19/533

your weaker Pokmon (that has a type-advantage attack) that you wish to levelup, and let it loose on the Geodude, and then his Onix.

Now that that is done, continue up, and you will face the overseer ofthe gym - Gym Leader Roark.

________________|Gym Leader Roark| Before I start with the general strategy for each Pokmon, I will tellyou about the properties of Stealth Rock. Each of Roark's Pokmon can use it,and when it is utilized, whenever you switch Pokmon, the new Pokmon that youbring in will be injured by Stealth Rock for a one-time hit. However, StealthRock will continue hitting on throughout the battle, so definitely make sure tobe prepared for it after Roark uses it and you switch out. It is also one of themost broken moves in the game because of its specific attribute: Stealth Rockwill deal 1/8th of your Pokemon's total HP as damage, but it also followsPokemon typing. If you have Chimchar, for example, it will take 1/4th of itstotal HP as damage because it is 2x weak to Rock. On the other hand, Pokemonthat are resistant to Rock will only take 1/16th damage.

Roark's starter, Geodude, should not be underestimated, but neither

should you take out all the stops and throw everything you have it. Throw one ofyour weaker Pokmon out to battle it (likely one of the Bugs, or someone whomknows Rock Smash), as you will need your strongest Pokmon for later on in thematch. If you have a Kricketune at a decent chunk of HP and Defense, you couldalso try using Fury Cutter multiple times in a row so (if) when you defeatGeodude, the attack power will carry over to when fighting Onix. Mega Drain isalso a fine choice.

After Roark sends out Geodude, switch Pokmon if your front-liner onlyknew Fighting moves to attack with (with the exception of if it is an evolvedMonferno). This is because Onix has a high physical defense, and even beingable to hit it with an attack it's weak against means nothing much if it is aphysical attack. Indeed, you will probably want to use either Mega Drain

(Kricketune and Turtwig), Leech Seed + Absorb + Razor Leaf (Turtwig) or Bubble(Piplup), all of them being Special Attacks except for Razor Leaf.

Finally, Roark will pull out his trump card - the never-before-seenCranidos. Choose carefully whom you bring into the duel to start - his Pursuitattack means that if you try to switch your own Pokmon out, it will do doubledamage to whoever it hits. As such, I would recommend you bring in to startsomeone whom can act as a big wall, and wear it down with status-loweringattacks, and then change it to your own best Pokmon, then take it out with type-advantage attacks. Headbutt also can cause your Pokemon to Flinch, which meansit will lose a turn.

With your first gym battle in the bag, Roark will give you the CoalBadge, which allows you to use the HM06 Rock Smash out of battle, and also handsover TM76, which teaches Stealth Rock. Afterwards, leave the gym.

Go to the Pokmon Center and recover up where needed. Before continuingon, put in the front of your lineup someone like your starter (regardless oftype) or a Flying-type Pokmon. Preferably at least a reasonably-strong Pokmon(Level 11+). That done, head to the far north of Jubilife City, and you willencounter Lucas/Dawn and Professor Rowan being cornered by two men in blue. These will turn out to be members of Team Galaxy, and after some small talk, you

and Lucas/Dawn will get into a double-team battle against the two grunts._________________________________________________________|Team Galactic Grunt & Team Galactic Grunt (Double Battle)| Depending on which Pokmon that you chose at the beginning of the game,Lucas/Dawn will have the type that you are weak to, and at Level 13. No matterwhether s/he has Chimchar, Turtwig or Piplup, you should bring in a Rock-typesuch as Geodude, as both Wurmple and Zubat have type weaknesses to Rock-typeattacks. If s/he's using Chimchar, let him/her have Wurmple while you takeZubat. Otherwise, it is fair game as to who you take on first. The GalacticGrunt's Pokmon themselves should not be too much of a trouble, so long as youfinish the battle swiftly - else, Zubat's Supersonic and Bite may take a bit too

much of your HP. Other Pokemon you can choose to use are Chimchar/Infernape orStarly, with Ember or Wing Attack being supereffective against Wurmple.

Having won, Lucas/Dawn and the Professor will talk some more, and leave. Before you are free to move, a guy from the TV Station shall then come up to youand inform you the station is once more open, and hands off a Fashion Case toyou, which will allow you to dress your Pokmon up at the TV station.

You will face a different trainerevery day of the week (note that if you saved the game inside the lobby area andturned the DS off, you will face the trainer who will be there the day you savedyour game on).

After, do whatever you will on the rest of the building. Otherwise, headnorth into Route 204, and be sure to bring somebody who knows Rock Smash with.

    __________|Idol Grace| (SUNDAY ONLY)

If you have a Rock/Ground type (Geodude or Onix) from the OreburghMine/Oreburgh Gate, now is a good time to bring it in. Pikachu's Thunder Wavewill not work on Ground-types, while its lone attack, Quick Attack, isrelatively ineffective against high-defense rock-types. Growl and Tail Whip youshould know the effects of by now.

That same Rock-type can also be used against Clefairy, who only has oneattack, a Normal-type attack. You can also use a Machop or an evolved Monfernofrom a Chimchar, both of which know Fighting-type attacks, which are supereffective against Clefairy. Be sure to carry an Awakening in the case Clefairyputs your Pokemon to sleep.

_______________|Reporter Kinsey| (MONDAY ONLY) Chatot is sort of worrying, at least at this point in the game: as astandalone Pokemon with no pre-evolutions and no evolutions, it has fairlyhigh stats in comparison to its level point. Fury Attack hits for 2 to 5 times

and has a base attack of 15 per hit, while Mirror Move will copy the last attackyour own Pokemon used. If you have a Rock-type Pokemon (Geodude or Onix)sufficiently leveled up, it is perfect for use in battle, as Fury Attack will beineffective, while Rock-type attacks shall deal critical damage to Chatot. Ifyou have a Shinx at Level 17 or higher, you can also use Spark.

_______________|Cameraman Tevin| (TUESDAY ONLY) Pachirisu is a male Pokemon, so try to bring in a male opponent, so Charm(which sharply reduces the attack of an opposing Pokemon of the opposite gender)does not work. Geodude or Onix will also work quite well in this battle if you

have one - Quick Attack deals little damage, while Spark will not work at all(Ground-type nullifies Electric-type attacks). Otherwise, bring in somethingthat is not weak to Electricity, possibly soften it up first with Leer if yourPokemon has that move, and then pound away at it. You may need to go through acouple of Pokemon as at this point of the stage, Level 17 might be overpoweredfor an individual 'mon on an evenly-leveled team.

While Mr. Mime is a Psychic type, it does not know a single Psychicattack, so feel free to bring in a Fighting or Poison-type if you have one (justbe aware attacks of those two types will be 0.5x damage). DoubleSlap, as thename suggests, does two attacks, while Meditate raises its Attack. Encore causesyour own Pokemon to repeat the last move it used for several uses, while Copycatcopies your last move. Mr. Mime has both a low Speed and a low Defense stat, soif you have somebody with relative high Speed and Attack stats, feel free tobring it in and try to outdo Mr. Mime.

_______________________|Interviewers Roxi & Oli| (THURSDAY ONLY) This is the only double battle of all seven battles at the Jubilife TVStation, which makes it rather interesting by default. Grass-types are kingcoming into this battle. However, if you did not pick a Turtwig, then the onlyGrass-type you may have picked up so far is a Budew off the route north ofJubilife TV. Grass is super effective against Marill and quadruple-effectiveagainst Wooper, so it is worth a shot. However, if you make sure to avoidanything weak to Water or Ground-type attacks, you can dominate the battle byfocusing on either Wooper or Marill to start. Once one of them falls, you shouldhave a two-on-one advantage for the rest of the battle.

______________|Pok Kid Ariel| (FRIDAY ONLY) The two Pikachus will be fairly annoying to handle with, as likely youdo not have anything at this point in the game to counter Electric-types; thatboth Pikachus know Thunder Wave and constantly spam it, along with the AbilityStatic that may randomly cause your own Pokmon to be paralyzed makes it veryannoying. However, you may also want to use this reliance on Paralysis to youradvantage; tougher Pokmon such as Machop (complete with Guts), or a Geodude orOnix (who cannot be affected by Paralysis through Thunder Wave thanks to aGround subtype) are more likely to work. If Machop gets Paralyzed, Guts willincrease his attack by 50% and allow him to slaughter the Pikachus. Geodude and

Onix will be able to fight them off without a chance of getting Paralyzed. Forsafe measures, bring some Paralyze Heals to the battle.

________________|Guitarist Arturo| (SATURDAY ONLY) Be careful as you start off - because both of his Zubat know Supersonic, the potential is there for you to be inflicted with the confusion status effect.Since you are unlikely to have Persim Berry on hand, I recommend you saveyourself the trouble and simply switch out Pokmon if you get confused - notonly will the confusion be gone if you switch back in your original Pokmon, butyou also save yourself the trouble of injuring yourself.

The other note of interest is Zubat's Astonish attack; this can causeyou to flinch, and negate one of you turns. As such, bring in somebody who'squick on their feet and a heavy hitter, along with a backup in case your firstfalls through to confusion. Good choices if you have their respective type-attribute attacks on hand at this point are Kadabra, Geodude, and Shinx.Otherwise, simply use powerful attacks to finish the two Zubats off.

__________|Lass Sarah| A reasonably easy fight. As her only Pokmon is a Bidoof, which is pureNormal type, bring out whichever of your Pokmon that you brought that knew RockSmash. A couple of obligatory move-type advantage attacks later, her lone Bidoofshould be out and under, and you the victor of the match.

After the battle is over, continue to head north (and a bit left), andyou will then be confronted by Youngster Tyler.

_______________|Youngster Tyler| Bring in ANYONE you like to fight Tyler, so long as they have anattack. His Magikarp only knows Splash, and the attack is ineffective as always.Ideally, you could put in the front of your lineup somebody who knows an stat-raising move so as to prepare for the next Pokmon, but it is your choice.

Once Magikarp is down, Tyler will bring out his (slightly) tougherStarly. As it knows Quick Attack, you risk taking damage unless you respond withyour own Quick Attack first turn. By now, if you have been power-levelling anyelectric Pokmon you have gotten your hands on, you may have an Electric move tohit it with. Otherwise, bring in something like a Normal-type to respond and dobattle.

Now that that is over, proceed north through the large area of grass, and fight off Lass Samanatha, whom is standing at the very end of the trek.

    _____________|Lass Samantha|

Be careful as to not bring in anybody whom is weak to Grass attacks, akaa water or rock type that you might have picked up. As Budew is a bug type, however, you should have no problems with subduing it through either the use ofFire or Flying attacks (be careful to watch out for it's Water Sport if usingFire, however; this will decrease the effectiveness of your Fire-type attacks).

Outside again, go west and then north, and you should come up againstAroma Lady Taylor.

_________________|Aroma Lady Taylor| Bring out whoever you started to fight against Lass Samantha, as heropener, another Budew, is the EXACT same as Samantha's Budew as far as move setgoes. Afterwards, you may choose to keep your starter in, as Cherubi, Kaori'snext Pokmon, is a Grass-type. Alternatively, you can also bring in any BugPokmon that you have, as Grass-types are also weak to Bug-attribute attacks.Either way, through the power of type-advantage, her Cherubi will fall withouttoo much of a struggle as well.

With the battle finished, pick up the Awakening lying on the groundnearby, then continue north. Past the patch of grass, you should spot BugCatcher Brandon, whom is wandering back and forth in a straight line left andright.

    ___________________|Bug Catcher Brandon|

Being what they are, Brandon's Pokmon are obviously weak to theaforementioned Fire and Flying-type attacks. However, they are also at adisadvantage against Rock-type attacks, and without any Grass-type attacks tocounter with, you can bring in a Geodude or Onix without worrying about gettingraped. Just be careful to have an Antidote on hand for this battle - Wurmpleknows Poison Sting, which if you let it affect you, can end up being nasty.

Finally, with only a single battle up to finish, head north and west toface off against the Twin sisters Liv and Liz in battle.

    _______________________________|Twins Liv & Liz (Double Battle)|

As this is your second battle, you may not be familiar with the rules,so I will repeat them - you will bring out your first two Pokmon in the orderthat they are on your submenu. As such, properly arrange your second Pokmonbeforehand, so as to avoid any mistakes.

Anyways, the two Pachirisu are a pair of electric rats. However, as typeadvantages have been changed around slightly, only Ground-type attacks are supereffective against them. If lacking anyone with such an attack, a smart move herewould be to bring in two female Pokmon (to avoid Charm) that can quickly knockout the Pachirisu (both of whom know Bide, which can hurt if you let it).Something like a Geodude or Onix you may have picked up can also work, as theirdefense stats will stop them from taking much damage. Other than that, not much

can be said, except for perhaps bringing in somebody who knows Quick Attack tocounter their own.

With the final battle over, head up and left from the twin sisters andbetween the fences, and grab a Pokball lying on the ground to obtain TM09. Nowthat your trek is done, head back across the fences and go north into FloaromaTown.

Talk to the lady wandering around on the rightside of the shop, and once a day, she shall give you a random berry. You canalso talk to the woman at the counter to buy Dress Up accessories, but youwill need a special currency for that, which you cannot get until later.

Outside again, go left to the house with the wooden red roof, and enter.Inside, talk to the girl sitting next to the figurine and talk to her. Say"Yes" to her query to obtain TM88. Other than that, however, there is not muchto do in this town for the time being (and the presence of the two Team GalacticGrunts in the northwest corner of the area has no bearing on the plotline at thecurrent moment), so once done, strike out east.

___________________|Team Galactic Grunt| This is an obvious rendition of "bring in somebody with Rock Smash" onceone realizes that Glameow is a Normal-type, or a Machop/Monferno that has aFighting-type move (and Same-Type Attack bonus). The only thing that one shouldREALLY watch out for is Glameow's Fake Out ability - a first-turn first-strikeability that can cause your own Pokmon to flinch. Thankfully, it cannot use itagain after the first turn, which gives you enough time to calculate your ownvengeance.

    |Team Galactic Grunt 1| The general category of what you should use to start off in this battleis fairly obvious - Fire, Flying, and Rock will rule. However, my mainrecommendation is on Rock-type, even if you do not plan to use it in thisbattle. This is because when you start the second battle, your first Pokmonshall be forced to stay a constant, so having a Rock-type versus the Zubat willmake the battle much easier. Other than that, Wurmple and Silcoon are, asalways, pretty weak Bug Pokmon with their only claim to danger being theirPoison Sting - do bring along some Antidote, just in case.

    _____________________|Team Galactic Grunt 2|

If you did as I said to earlier and put a Rock-type Pokmon at the startof your group, this match should be over fairly quickly. If you did not, thenuse whoever you start off with to try and take it out - if you cannot do that(but only wear it down), then change to somebody who has a type-advantage or hasno type-disadvantage against Zubat - the former category would include a Rock-type, Psychic-type, or Electric-type. After that, attack, and it is game, set,and match for you.

    |Team Galactic Grunt 1| Sometimes, it seems obvious that GAME FREAK is not trying to make theone-player portion of the game even somewhat difficult. This is one of thosecases, as you face off against a Silcoon whose only assets are Tackle andHarden. Even if you do not have somebody with a type advantage (and you should, given the recent occurance of Bug-type Pokmon), it is still almost impossibleto lose this battle. Just let loose your Flying/Fire/Rock Pokmon, and decimateit quickly with anything that it is inherently weak to.

With the battle over, continue on right, and speak to the Galactic Gruntin the middle of the area to end up fighting him in a second battle.

_____________________|Team Galactic Grunt 2| Open up with your obligatory anti-Bug-type Pokmon to destroy theGalactic Grunt's Wurmple. One Pokmon later, he will bring out another Glameow. As it knows Fake Out, it is possible for it to hit you in its opening move witha first-strike attack, and also cause you to flinch. This will not put you toofar behind, but it can be annoying if you are maintaining something already suchas Rollout or Fury Cutter. Anywho, as Glameow is a Normal-type, you may want tobring in whoever you had brought along with knowledge of Rock Smash. Rock

Smash's Fighting-type attribute will, once again, trump a Pokmon with Normal-type attribute. Otherwise, bring somebody out to use Glameow for experiencefodder.

Finally, continue on to the right of the plant, and talk to the ladydame at the end, who is the head honcho of the Galactic forces here. Afterdetailing their plans, we will end up in battle with her.

______________|Commander Mars| Let your resident electric/rock/psychic type dictate the pace at the

start of the battle, but be careful; her Zubat knows Toxic, which, should youget poisoned, will rob HP from you in increasing amounts each turn. Because ofthis, it is recommended that you do not take the time to build up your own statswith stats-raising moves or other special effects, but instead focus on quicklytaking out the Zubat.

Galaxy Mars' second Pokmon is the fearsome Purugly. Purugly is theevolution of Glameow (which, under normal circumstances, does not evolve untilLevel 38), and retains a solo Normal type. As such, somebody who knows Fightingtype attacks should be brought to the front. Bringing in an Awakening to thisfight is the most important part, as Purugly knows Hypnosis, which means if youget hit by it, you are asleep for a random amount of time. Thankfully,Purugly's remaining arsenal is fairly tame - Growl and Scratch. So long as Mars

does not abuse Growl, you should be able to inflict a reasonable amount ofdamage with a Fighting attribute move to take it down relatively easily. Bewarethough of what you may think to be your second-last hit on it; Purugly carriesa Berry, which will restore it 10 HP when it's health is lowered to a perilouslevel.

After you finally win, Team Galaxy will clear the building and retreat, and the little girl you saw earlier shall come to meet up with her father. Afterthe reunion, exit the Windworks.

By examining ityou will get into a random battle with it. As a Ghost/Flying type, it is weak toDark-type, Rock-type and Electric-type attacks, which might be vital given thatDrifloon is at Level 22. Save beforehand so you can reset if you accidentallydefeat Drifloon or run out of Poke Balls.

    36/533

Across the bridge, head straight north along the dirt road. Past theisolated tree, you will encounter the first opponent on this long trudge -Camper Jacob.

____________|Camper Jacob| A Fire-type Pokmon certainly is not one we have seen much of so far inthis game, but currently, you should have a good solution to defeating hisPonyta; a Rock-type Pokmon (or, if you chose Piplup, or even have an already-evolved Gyrados, a Water-Type Pokmon. Shellos and Buizel can both be picked upon this Route without a problem as well). Either of them are very resistant toPonyta's Ember, and the former to Ponyta's Tackle. Direct a Rock-type or Water-type attack at Ponyta, and a couple of hits later, it should be down for thecount.

Once finished, head left through the large area of grass, then headnorth up the staircase. Run to the right at the top to open the Pokball for anX Attack, then go and face Hiker Daniel.

    ____________|Hiker Daniel|

With four Pokmon in his lineup, Daniel has by far the largest arsenalin Route 205. As he starts the match with a Geodude, you should start in reversewith a Water or Grass-type (Psychics or anybody who knows a Fighting move alsoworks, but DO NOT bring in Bug types). As Geodude knows Rock Throw, be carefulnot to bring anybody in who is weak to Rock-type attacks (Flying, Fire, or theaforementioned Bug types). Make sure that you go on the attack at the start; ifyou let Geodude use Defense Curl, his physical Defense will rise to unfathomablelevels.

After the fall of his first Geodude, Daniel will pull out Machop, whois a very physical fighter, with two Fight-type moves, Focus Energy, and Leer. AFlier or Psychic-type will perform very well in this fight, as not only are

Flying-type and Psychic-type moves effective against Machop, but they also takeonly half damage from Fighting-type moves (as do Bug types, so use that if youhave no alternative).

For his third choice, Daniel will bring out a second Geodude. Bring outwhoever you used during the first faceoff, or else use somebody fresh who stillhas type-advantage. This will finally be followed by a Bidoof. As we all knowfrom having to fight them countless times already, Bidoof are weak, and this oneis no exception - just do not let the match stray too long, or it may actuallypose a fighting chance through the use of Defense Curl and Growl.

Once done, head north and then down the stairs to the right, and face

off against Aroma Lady Elizabeth, the girl who is looking around in alldirections.

____________________|Aroma Lady Elizabeth| Although Elizabeth has only one Pokmon, Budew can still be a fairlyannoying Pokmon to deal with. This is partly due to its relatively high levelin comparison to other opponents, but also because of its moveset - Water Sportto stop the effectiveness of Fire-types, Stun Spore to paralyze opponents, and

  • 7/23/2019 Http- Portable Ds File Pokemon Dp c

    37/533

Mega Drain to recover Budew's own HP while damaging yours. Because that is thecase, about the only types of Pokmon that will have an advantage in this matchare Flying-types and Poison-types - Flying attacks will hurt Budew because ofits Grass-type attribute, and Psychic attacks because of its Poison-typeattribute. Bring in either of these types of benefactors, and try to take outBudew quickly before it can use Stun Spore.

With another win in the bag, head north across the grass patch, and faceoff against the ranger girl who is wandering around, Picnicker Siana.

_______________|Picnicker Siana| Both of Siana's Pokmon are Electric-types, with the former, Shinx, knowing Tackle and Spark, while the latter, Pachirisu, Spark and Charm. Goodtypes of Pokmon to bring into this match are Grass-types, Rock-types, or yourown Electric-types. Spark will only do half damage against Grass and Electric, and both Spark (a physical attack) and Shinx's Tackle will fare poorly againstany Rock-types, who should have very high Physical Defense. After you break thisdown, it is fairly easy to win, so long as you do not make any major slip-ups.

When you finally win the battle, go and grab some berries from the two

trees, then head left to open the Pokball for a Pokball. After, go south andthen back up the staircase to where Hiker Daniel is, then continue north upanother staircase, where you will face off against the Camper Zackary, who iswalking around.

______________|Camper Zackary| Of course you have faced off against another Geodude just like this. Two, in fact. Recall back to your previous battle with Hunter Daniel, andthen pull out whatever you used against his own Geodudes to complete the lineup, then fight against Zackary's Geodude and win.

Make your way across the bridge, and at the end of the trek, you willface off against another Hiker; in this case, Nicholas.

______________|Hiker Nicholas| There's something almost familiar about this...oh right, the fact thatOnix is a Ground/Rock type, just like the Geodudes you have faced before him.Onix is a bit more dangerous, though; Screech can greatly decimate your naturaldefense stats, while Bind is a multi-turn attack that can hit for two to fiveturns. Meanwhile, Rage is probably the greatest threat there is; the more timesOnix is struck with an attack, the more powerful Rage will be. As such, it is

quite imperative that you bring in either a Water or Grass-type to strike andend the battle within two hits before Rage can become too strong.

After the battle, continue on your arduous hike north through thegrasses, and once you get to the mountainous area, head left and pick up anInsecticide from the Pokball lying in the corner. After, fight Battle GirlKelsey, who is the one walking around in a square nearby.

    __________________|Battle Girl Kelsey|

    38/533

This is another reasonably easy battle, with only one single Pokmon, who is also weak to some of the members of your team that you have likely beenusing less as of late (and thus should have plenty of energy left to fight).Given that it is a Machop, you can use either a Flying or Psychic-type to getsome super-effective attacks of of it, but with her Machop's level, using yourfight with Chinashi as experience fodder for some of your other Pokmon is not abad idea either.

After, talk to the nearby lady facing north to have a showdown with thefinal trainer in this area, Picnicker Karina.

________________|Picnicker Karina| Yes, it IS a Piplup. Since her Piplup knows Peck, bringing in a Grass-type or Bug-type is out of the question for the moment (unless you have somebodywho is vastly overpowered enough to negate the type advantage, or have a reallypowerful Grass attack on someone). The best method to defeat Piplup is to bringin an Electric-type, such as Shinx or any of the Pachirisu that you may havecaught in this area, and use Spark to harm the Piplup without taking any majordamage back. You may also be inclined to use Pokmon in this battle that have noadvantages or disadvantages against Piplup if needed.

Once finished picking up your last win, head into the nearby house withthe red roof. Talk to the lady inside, and she will let you sleep there with anautomatic recover for all of your Pokmon. Exit outside and head south down thestaircase, and open the Pokball lying on the ground for a Super Potion. Headback up the staircase, then head left and north into the Eterna Forest.

Some good Pokmon to pick up here. If you have Pearl version, picking upMisdreavous here is a very good opportunity, as Psychic, Fighting, and Normalattacks will not be able to touch this thing. Murkrow is also useful for pickingup; not only is he a Dark/Flying type, but his new Diamond/Pearl evolution,Honchkrow, can have a very powerful offense.

You will be joined at the start by Cheryl, a fellow Pokemon trainer. Allbattles in the Eterna Forest shall be fought alongside Cheryl as double battles.Cheryl's Chansey knows Egg Bomb, a basic attack and Softboiled, which it can useto recover itself. After every battle, all your Pokemon will have their PP, HP,and any status effects totally restored.

However, be aware that if you wish to capture a Pokemon in the EternaForest, you can only capture a Pokemon once it is alone, ie. after you haveeliminated its partner.

After Cheryl joins you, head left from the start of Eterna Forest, andopen a Pokball lying on the patch of ground to obtain an Antidote. Once youhave picked it up, head east from the entrance, then north. Once you make itpast the first strip of grass, continue to head north and you will have yourfirst doubles battle showdown in the Eterna Forest, this time with Bug CatcherJack and Lass Briana.

______________________________________________|Bug Catcher Jack / Lass Briana (Double Battle)| For your side of the battle, a Fire-type Pokmon will REALLY keep thetide of the battle in your favor. If you lack such a type, then bring in a Rock-type Pokmon who has type advantage against Bug types and cannot be easily hurtby the Pachirisu's Physical attacks. Once you knock out Pachirisu, you couldthen switch to a Flying-type that you may have on-hand and then use it to sweepthe remaining trio of Bug Pokmon.

After you have finished winning the battle, continue on north and pickup a Paralyze Heal from the Pokball lying on the ground. Continue west, thenhead south, where you will face off against two Psychics, Lindsey and Elijah.

    |Psychic Lindsey / Psychic Elijah (Double Battle)| It has been awhile since you encountered an actual Abra battle (thelast one being your first visit to Jubilife City), but now you should have acouple of counters to defeat the Psychics' Abras. The first is to use pure Bug-types (meaning that they do NOT have Poison-types, or the Abras' Psychic-typeattribute version of Hidden Power will hit them for double damage) and use Bug-type attacks to deal double damage against the Abras. The other strategy thatone can utilize is to bring in Pokmon that know the Dark-attribute move Bite sofar - Zubat, Turtwig, and Shinx so far are all capable of learning it (and theirevolutions a bit later). Being Psychic-types, the two Abras will be weak tothis. Even if you do not have either at hand, however, do not fret too much -Chansey on her own should be able to deal with the Abras, so insofar as long as

you bring in one of your own strong Pokmon, you should not worry too much aboutlosing.

Once done picking up another win for your doubles team, head south andgrab a Great Ball from the Pokball lying in the southwest corner of the largegrass patch. Next, head straight right,
