The Future• Ticketing and Information System

(TIS2014) –project– renewal of the travel card system

– implementation of real-time information for passengers, contractors and operators

-> contract 5/2012-> in use by the end of 2015

• Renewal of the fare and ticketing system at the same time / soon after -> 2016?

• Both projects started in 2006

Vision: TIS2014 and the new fare systemThe new ticketing, passenger information and fare system is •suitable for the expanding Helsinki region•well functioning, clear and easy for the customer to use•give real-time information before and during the journey•the pricing is considered fair and •the system can easily be expanded geographically during its lifespan.

TIS2014 - What is so special?• The first metropolitan area renewing an existing

contactless ticketing system• Real-time transaction and communication system

both for ticketing and information• Fully integrated ticketing and information system

based on SOA architecture model• Independent service components• Readiness for contactless EMV and NFC-solutions

The new fare zones: Circle/arch model

Page 12: HSL Ticketing, Passenger information and Fare system 2013->2016 Pirkko Lento, Helsinki

The Circle Zone Model • Zone boundaries are based on the distance from the

centre of the Metropolitan area (the centre of Helsinki) • The new zones will not necessarily follow any municipal

boundaries• There will be no internal tickets, only circle zone tickets• The customer will always buy two circle zones in the

inner circle zones area (A, B and C) • The cheapest tickets will often cover a larger area than

the present system • The circle model is easier to expand, if/when the HSL-

area expands and/or the municipal structure changes
