Publisher’s Corner The greatest gift you can offer is a healthy, whole youFor most of 25 years I have run for exercise. This winter I shortened my mileage. Now it feels like a struggle both mentally and physically to get my fitness back.Yesterday, while on a slow, uninspired run, a man slowed his car, leaned out andasked, “how far do you go?” Discouraged, I said “not far”. He replied, “I see youall the time, I thought you would say 15 miles a day or something.” Stunned, Irealized that my perception of myself is not always the same as how others seeme. All my life I felt transparent—meaning it seemed that how I was feelinginside was obvious on the outside and that made it real. This isn’t always true. Weare taught to not pay attention to what other’s say about us. Yet, for true self-examsometimes it is useful to listen to another’s opinion, weigh its validity and then nomatter how it feels let it go to free up authentic expression.

As I sit inside the house and ponder this story and why it is sticking with me, out-side it is dumping rain and alternating thunder with lightning. A vision of myselfas a flowering tree flashes through my mind. I see my emotions and opinions asthe weather. The elements both nourish and destruct the tree’s growth and yet theyare not actually the tree. Just as my thoughts can nourish and destroy my ownflowering, they are not really me. Nor do my opinions of others create a truthabout them. It is wise to be aware of how I feel within, while remembering it isnot a definition of me, it is simply an estimation of that moment. We are fluidcreatures that contain multitudes.

This story began with a man seeing me as motivated, while I felt lazy. Honestly, both are true. For years I have been seeking wholeness. It is now apparent that Ihad mistakenly believed being whole would mean perfection by human standards.Yet with time behind me, what sages have been saying for eternity rings true inmy bones. Totality comprises everything, including that which could be thoughtof as opposites; soul and ego, spirit and matter, light and dark, greatness andmediocrity, joy and anger, motivated and lazy. I have a strong preference forsunny, hot weather, which means I refer to such a day as good. While a cold, wetday is bad. However, they are both necessary for thehealth of the world, making neither one truly betterthan the other regardless of my prejudice. This showsme that nothing is inherently good or bad, only we putvalue on one side or the other. Value does not equaltruth. It seems that once we deeply recognize this, wecan move from measuring life against an ideal to genuinely living it.

In peace and awe,

Breakthrough Counseling Center“We are not free to use today or to promise tomorrow because weare already mortgaged to yesterday.” —Ralph Waldo Emerson

In my private practice with clients, I focus on solutions and goal-oriented therapy. Many of us come from a place of past hurts andlong-held pain. My wish is that for all of us to move past the hurtsand start building a positive, meaningful life today.

Still there are times when the past cannot be ignored. Holding tothe past is to hold things against ourselves, and sometimes that’swhere we get stuck. Then some attention must be paid to resolv-ing old hates and anger so we can let it go and free ourselves tofuture possibilities. Sometimes it helps to recognize that peoplewere not hurting us intentionally. They really were only operatingfrom what they could offer at the time. That does not mean wehave to forgive and forget. It simply means their actions no longerkeep us chained to the past. No one deserves to hold us hostageany longer than they already have. It is time to heal and move on.

The word toxins has become fairly common in today’ssociety when discussing the harmful substances we’re allexposed to on a daily basis, but what exactly are toxins,

and what can you do to protect yourself from them?

Environmental toxins are defined as poisonous substances thatoriginate outside the body. We can usually group them intoeither chemicals or metals. With the increased exposure all of usare subjected to, it’s really no longer a question of whether we’retoxic but rather how toxic are we?

Toxins come from a wide variety of sources, and studies haveshown that exposure can begin while a baby is still in the womb.A 2005 study by the Environmental Working Group found 287chemicals detected in the umbilical cord blood of newborns. 180of these chemicals are known carcinogens and 217 are known tobe toxic to the brain and nervous system!

Unfortunately we are in almost constant contact with a variety oftoxins every day of our lives. The CDC tested 212 known chem-icals and found all 212 to be in the blood and urine of mostAmericans. Six chemicals in particular were found to be in virtu-ally every person and were identified as probable health hazards:

Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PDE’s),Bisphenol A (BPA),Perfluorooctanoic acid(PFOA), Acrylamide, Mercury, and Methyltert-butyl ether (MTBE).

Typical symptoms you may experience ifyou have a heavy toxic burden are fatigue, depression, headaches, brain fog, memoryproblems, balance problems, and possibly

tremors. Some common conditions and disease states associatedwith excessive toxic burden include allergies, diabetes, obesity, fibromyalgia, chronic infections, and auto immune diseases.Sadly, in recent years we’ve seen increases in childhood diseasessuch as autism, childhood asthma, leukemia, and brain cancer.

So what can you do? The answer is twofold – reduce your expo-sure and detoxify your body.

REDUCE EXPOSURE:A great first step is to do some research and remove chemicalsfrom your home. Use chemical free products (soap, detergent, dryer sheets, insect and weed killer), and remove your shoesbefore entering your home to prevent toxins from being tracked in.

Remember also that the majority of toxin exposure comes fromthe food that we eat. 35% of all supermarket foods contain meas-urable pesticide residues that make their way into our bodies. Thisis why it’s so important to eat as much organic food as you can. Conventionally raised meat and dairy products have consistentlybeen found to have the highest level of hormone disruptingchemicals in them, so try to choose free range, hormone and

Detoxing

Page 11: Hsj68junejuly13

antibiotic free dairy, meat and eggs when possible. Also try to eatfresh, cold water fish in place of farm raised.

DETOXIFICATION:Detoxification simply means normalizing the body’s ability toprocess and excrete toxins while temporarily reducing theamount of incoming toxins. When our bodies are exposed to tox-ins over time, they build up in the body and lead to toxic burden, causing the symptoms I described earlier.

A detoxification program like the one we use in our pharmacyutilizes diet, nutrients, vitamins, and herbs to balance and sup-port the body’s natural detoxification pathways – specifically theliver. By eliminating certain foods over a 10 or 28 day period andsupporting your body nutritionally, you can improve your body’sability to excrete the toxins that have built up.

You can’t completely eliminate your exposure to environmental

toxins, but you can take steps to minimize your exposure andprovide your body with the opportunity to cleanse itself throughnatural detoxification. Transitioning over to a healthy lifestylecan help reduce fatigue and increase vitality. So if you’re look-ing for a way to do some “Spring Cleaning” for your body, consider metabolic detoxification.

by Kim Lohret

Ihad no expectations when I made the appointment. Even onthe hour-long drive to my first past-life regression, I thoughtlittle about what might take place. As I traveled down wind-

ing, country roads to a town I wouldn’t be able to find again with-out my GPS, I decided to simply stay open.

In my practice as an energy worker, I’ve witnessed clients spon-taneously reliving experiences from other times and places. I sus-pect that some of the more painful experiences of my own soul’sjourney still linger as shadows of fear or doubt. During my regres-sion, I knew I might be taken back to a traumatic event or askedto relive something I’d clearly chosen to forget. I knew nothingabout the woman I was going to see, except that she’d been high-ly recommended by a friend I love and trust. Still, if I had any fearwhatsoever, it was that nothing at all would happen.

It was snowing when I pulled into the driveway of Elizabeth’s,unassuming house. As I climbed out of my car, a radiantly beau-tiful, white-haired woman came out to greet me. I could feel thewarmth of her hug right through my winter coat. She led meinside, preparing two cups of tea and guiding me to a comfortable,high-backed chair in her living room. We talked about the drive,my work, the feral cat she’d been working at befriending, andother things before settling into the business of past life regres-sion. Relaxed and curious, I listened as Elizabeth explained whatwas likely to happen.

Like all healing work, I guessed the specifics would vary greatlyfrom one person to the next, and when I laid down on the couch,I still held very few expectations. In her lovely, reassuring voice,Elizabeth began walking me through a relaxation visualization. As if walking through rooms turning off lights, we traveled frommy feet up through my head, encouraging every part of my bodyto be still. From there, I was told to find an elevator.

As a writer, this wasn’t difficult, though I couldn’t help but won-der how much of this was “just my imagination” as I entered the

elevator and looked for the control board. When Elizabeth askedme how many floors there were, I answered 32, not really know-ing how I knew it, but feeling like it was true nonetheless. At herdirection, I pressed a button, traveled down, and waited for thedoors to open.

When they did, she asked me to describe what I saw. To my dis-may, I saw nothing. Not being able to see is actually a long-stand-ing fear of mine. Ever since entering the world of professionalhealing work, I’ve bemoaned my inability to see. I sense with myhands, hear guides speaking in my ear and just know things, butrarely do I see. Even after purchasing a book on reading auras andpracticing the eye exercises suggested therein, I still see littlemore than blobs of light and dark whenever I try to look at some-thing with my third eye.

I explained to Elizabeth that I wasn’t seeing anything, feeling dis-appointed, though not surprised. In her reassuring way, she askedme to relax for a moment so some healing energies could come in.I obeyed, not seeing the violet or gold she was seeing, thoughsensing movement and heat and pressure around my head.

Within a few minutes, the fear of not being able to see sharplyescalated. I felt desperate. Somehow, I was failing at this. Andthen I heard in my head a calm voice. The exact words are lost tome now, but the message was clear. You can’t see because you’reblind. This was your experience. You are reliving it. With thewords, tears began to flow from my eyes, and I felt a surge of des-peration, unrelated to my typical fear of not seeing. I was blind!

Elizabeth confirmed what was happening. After the initial shock,I found myself relaxing into it just a little. Yes, I was blind. Itmade so much sense. This was why I sensed energy with myhands in this lifetime. This was why I feared not being able to see. Within a few minutes, I began to sense more. I wasn’t just blind,I was old. And a man. I could feel the folds of a loose-fitting gar-ment around my body. And I could smell everything. Body odor.Goats. To my right, I heard the sounds of a marketplace.

Slowly, I sank deeper into the experience, feeling a new despera-tion. Yes, I was blind, but there was something else causing thisdesperation. It was something like hope. I’d been blind my wholelife, lived with the abuse it brought for many years, but now therewas the possibility of something changing. I was being taken tosee someone. Someone I’d heard amazing things about. If anyonecould heal me, it was him.

My sister was beside me (my mother in this life) and she guidedme to a place where people were gathered. A great man wasspeaking, and his voice was like nothing I’d ever heard before. Irecognized him instantly. His voice wasn’t loud, though he spokewith authority, and I could feel the energy of his heart in hiswords. There was so much in his voice! It drove through me likea laser beam of light, and I sobbed some more, recognizing I wasin the presence of Christ.

As my experience continued to unfold, I eventually found myselfstanding before him. Still blind, I could only feel him, but even

that was an amazing thing. His hands came up to my eyes, and asearing headache flashed through my brain. My eyes grew hot.Tears came quickly. I was terrified. What if it didn’t work? Whatif I was still blind when this was over?

After what seemed an eternity, I gathered the necessary courageto open my eyes. I cannot describe what I saw in that moment(though I could, indeed, see), as too much of my memory iscaught up in what I felt. If he’d been a criminal I’d witnessedcommitting a crime, I’d be unable to offer the police enough infor-mation about his appearance to create a sketch. All I know is hewas stunningly beautiful. The energy of love pouring out of himwas palpable. I felt it washing over me. I felt him looking throughme, seeing everything there was to see, and loving me anyway. Itwas as if he could see right through to the undefiled altar within, and this was all he chose to see.

In my head, the words I will follow you to the ends of the earthechoed forth, and I recognized it as the thought I’d actually had inthat moment so long ago. I’d felt his capacity for love, and I want-ed it for myself. I wanted to be able to look at people that way. This was the lifetime I’d committed myself to Christ-conscious-ness.

Although the story continued to unfold after this, it’s that momentthat I remember most. I’ve thought back upon it many times, try-ing to recapture the utter peace and self-acceptance of it. Whenmy world seems to spin out of control, I remember that look, thatrush of energy, and I know I’m worthy. I’m already whole.Nothing compares to being looked at with unconditional love andacceptance. It was a turning point for my soul.

by Sarah A LoBisco, NDAn internal drive to work from a wellness perspective and mypassion for the power of integrative and nutritional medicine isnot just a theory to me. It originates from a direct experience ofhealing my own herniated disc during naturopathic medicalschool. Studying functional medicine the past three years hascemented this inner knowing of mine. It has provided even morebiochemical evidence (aka nutrigenomics) on how quality foodtruly ignites this innate healing ability of the body.

Here I’m providing some studies as evidence that what we put inour mouth affects our whole body.

Vegetarian Diet Can DecreaseHeart Disease in One Study

This study specifically com-pared a vegetarian diet to meateaters. The study had morefavorable heart outcomes invegetarians.

This does not prove that meat isnecessarily a cause of heart dis-ease, as the type of meat andhow it is raised is critical to

health. It would be interesting to run another comparison studywith those who consumed organic (which has less antibiotics, hormones, and inflammatory (omega 6) fats) to others who ateconventional meat products.

The article states:A study that followed 44,500 people for 11 years foundthat vegetarians were less likely to be hospitalized or todie from heart problems. They also had a lower weight-to-height ratio and were less likely to be diabetic.

The Fat Effect of Vegetarian FavorThis following study may provide a clue into the quality of meatequaling better outcomes in the study above with vegetarians. Itevaluated the replacement of saturated fats with polyunsaturatedones. This study found that the contributor to heart disease in thestudied population was due to the inflammation profile of the fatsin the participants’ diets.

All-cause mortality (primary outcome), cardiovascular mortality, and mortality from coronary heart disease (secondary outcomes)was compared in a single blinded parallel group, randomizedcontrol trial conducted in 1966-73. The participants were 458men aged 30-59 years with a recent heart trauma and who werebased in an Australian coronary care clinic. (A meta-analysiswas also used for missing data).

The Intervention group had a diet with a replacement of dietarysaturated fats (from animal fats, common margarines, and short-enings) with omega 6 linoleic acid (from safflower oil and saf-flower oil polyunsaturated margarine). The conclusions of the study are reported below:

Advice to substitute polyunsaturated fats for saturated fats isa key component of worldwide dietary guidelines for coro-nary heart disease risk reduction. However, clinical benefitsof the most abundant polyunsaturated fatty acid, omega 6linoleic acid, have not been established. In this cohort, sub-stituting dietary linoleic acid in place of saturated fatsincreased the rates of death from all causes, coronary heartdisease, and cardiovascular disease. An updated meta-analy-sis of linoleic acid intervention trials showed no evidence ofcardiovascular benefit. These findings could have importantimplications for worldwide dietary advice to substituteomega 6 linoleic acid, or polyunsaturated fats in general, forsaturated fats.

Diet and AsthmaOur American diet is affecting our youth. The impact of a sup-plemental program of fruit and vegetable concentrate, fish oil,and probiotics (FVFP) was studied in 192 asthmatic childrenaged 10-12 years. This 16-week school-based-double-blindplacebo-controlled randomized trial reported favorable effects:

FVFP supplements reduced medication use and improved pul-monary function in asthmatic children. The present study sup-ports an adjuvant intervention with a combination of fruit, veg-etable, fish and probiotic foods.

Diet and BeautyHere’s good news for those who eat less sugar, besides the healthbenefits! A recent study found a connection between sugar anddiary to pesky pimples: For decades, the connection between dietand acne has been dismissed as an old wives’ tale. But nowresearchers are revisiting the subject — and a new review ofstudies finds evidence that what you eat may have a bearing onthe severity of your acne after all. About 17 million Americans, and 80 to 90 percent of adolescents, experience acne, accordingto the paper, which appears in the March issue of the Journal ofAcademy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

Antioxidants and OptimismAnother benefit of diet besides physical health, clear skin…Abetter mood…Middle-aged adults who are more optimistic abouttheir future tend to have higher serum antioxidant levels thantheir less optimistic peers, new research suggests.

Investigators at Harvard University in Boston, Massachusetts, found that for every standard deviation increase in optimism, there was an increase in carotenoid concentrations of 3% to 13%in age-adjusted models.

Mom’s Diet and Baby’s HealthIn a study of 12,583 nonpregnant women in 1997 whom deliv-ered babies before December 31, 2003, 293 mother-child pairshad complete measurements of maternal plasma levels of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) concentrations (the more inflam-matory fats) to study the effect on birth outcomes.

The researchers compared the associationsbetween maternal plasma of PUFA status vs.more anti-inflammatory omega 3 fatty acids.

They made the comparison at 34 wkgestation and the resulting offspring

body composition later in life.

Conclusions: This observation-al study suggests that mater-nal n-6 PUFA status duringpregnancy might influenceoffspring adiposity in child-hood.

Caffeine Intake and Little BabySeems like coffee could also negative-ly affect outcomes on baby: A studyof 60,000 women in Swedenfound that babies' birth weightdecreased 21 to 28g for every100mg of caffeine consumeda day.

Consumption of caffeinefrom all sources was alsofound to lengthen pregnancyterms by a rate of five hours per100 mg of caffeine a day. Moreover, that figure spiked to an evenlonger gestational length when caffeineintake came specifically from coffee: eight extrahours for every 100 mg of caffeine a day.

Crystals are beautiful gifts from nature that can help us bal-ance our energy, feel more comfortable and calm.Electromagnetic energy in our bodies moves when a crys-

tal is near us to create balance or harmony. We experience har-mony when our chakras are radiating electromagnetic energy, andour meridians are moving electromagnetic energy freely. Our aurais our electromagnetic energy outside our bodies. Our meridiansare where electromagnetic energy is inside our bodies. When ourelectromagnetic energy moves from an area where it was exces-sive to an area where it was deficient, we feel more relaxed, com-fortable and calm.

Our bodies’ meridians and chakras help us use electromagneticenergy. Our sun is our source of electromagnetic energy. Chakrasare like solar panels on a house. Solar panels capture the sun’senergy and use it to power the house. Our meridians are like theelectrical wiring from the solar panels to the rest of the house. When our chakras soak up the sun, we feel great. Our house is fullof power, and our meridians can distribute electromagnetic ener-gy efficiently. Each meridian supplies electromagnetic energy thathelps our glands and organs function optimally. Excessive or defi-cient electromagnetic energy in a meridian causes the correspon-ding gland and organ to become uncomfortable, stressed or symp-tomatic.

Disharmony exists when chakras and meridians have excessive ordeficient electromagnetic energy. We can experience disharmonywhen we are hungry, tired or dehydrated. If we place our righthand over the center of our chest, and our left hand over the top ofour head, we can feel a significant difference in the heat or lack ofheat between our heart chakra and our crown chakra. We can alsofeel the difference in heat between our arms, shoulders, neck andface. Disharmony is always obvious in that we are not relaxed, comfortable and calm. If meridians have disharmony, disharmonyexists in our chakras. It is possible for disharmony to exist in ourchakras and harmony to exist in our meridians. The longer dishar-mony exists in the chakras, the greater the possibility of dishar-mony exists in our meridians as well.

Crystals help eliminate uncomfortable feelings by moving ourelectromagnetic energy from areas that are excessive to areas thatare deficient so harmony exists. Uncomfortable feelings, physicaldiscomfort and pain, disempowering thoughts and beliefs all are

related. Imagine a time when we all have been unhappy. Wemost likely were thinking about an event or person that providedus with a sad experience. We may feel tightness, heaviness orcoldness in our shoulders, neck and upper back. It is normal tofeel sad, angry, anxious and overwhelmed from time to time.Crystals can help us feel how we desire quickly.

Harmony in our chakras and meridians is necessary for optimalphysical, mental, emotional and spiritual health. Crystals can helpus achieve that and maintain it. Using crystals to create and main-tain harmony is fun and empowering. Please use the followinginstructions to experience crystals’ amazing gifts for yourself.

Crystals can help move electromagnetic energy to create harmo-ny in our chakras and meridians. They can help us whether weare moving, sitting, standing or lying down. The following areexamples of using crystals to create harmony in our chakras andmeridians while lying down on our back with our legs 2’ apart

and our arms 6” away from thesides of our bodies. If disharmo-ny exists in a chakra or meridianor multiple chakras and meridi-ans, one crystal can be placedabove our head, another crystalcan be placed between our kneesand a third one can be placednext to the area of disharmony. For example, if disharmonyexists in our 6th chakra, the third

crystal can be positioned as close as possible to the head on theside that feels more cold, empty or uncomfortable. If disharmo-ny exists in our left arm, we can place the third crystal betweenour left arm and our body below the elbow, but above the hand.If a disharmony exists in our right foot or lower leg, we can placethe third crystal next to the outside of our ankle.

Disharmony can be detected without knowing where a chakra ormeridian is located. Where we have pain or discomfort there isdisharmony. We can also have disharmony where we feel cold-ness, emptiness or lack of warmth. Please pay attention to howyou feel in your body. Please lie down to practice this bodyawareness exercise. Where do you feel discomfort, pain, cold-ness, emptiness or lack of warmth? Please pay attention to theseareas and how they compare the rest of your body. If you feeldiscomfort, pain, emptiness or lack of warmth in only one part ofyour body, please compare this area to the opposite side.EVERYONE can benefit using crystals in this way.

20 Healing Springs I #68 June—July, 2013

Within every man and woman is a force that directs andcontrols the entire course of life. Properly used, it canheal every affliction and ailment we may have.

Every single religion affirms this fact. All forms of mental or spir-itual healing promise the same thing. Even psychoanalysis andother forms of therapy employ this healing power: The insight andunderstanding that effective therapy can bring releases tensions ofvarious kinds, and through this release the healing power latentwithin and natural to the human system operates more freely.

Each of these systems teaches its own specialized methods ofthinking or contemplation or prayer that will, according to theterms of their own philosophies, renew our bodies and eventransform our entire environment.

Very few of these systems, however, actually fulfill in a completeway the high promises they have made. There is little under-standing of the practical means whereby the forces underlying theuniverse and permeating every cell of our bodies can be utilizedand directed toward the creation of a new heaven and a new earth.

Each one of us has the power to begin the process of reconstruc-tion for ourselves; each one of us can discover the force that canbring us true healing of our bodies and minds.

The central question, then, is how are we to be-come aware of this force? What is its nature? What is the mechanism whereby we can use it?

A great many different systems have evolved, widely differingprocesses by which we may discover the presence of such apower. Meditation, prayer, affirmation, invocation, emotionalexaltation, and other forms of declaration made at random uponthe universe or the Universal Mind are a few of the methods. Allhave this in common: By turning the fiery, penetrating power ofthe mind inward upon itself, and exalting our emotional systemto a certain pitch, we may become aware of previously unknowncurrents of force, currents that are almost electric in their interi-or sensation, and that are healing and integrating in their effect.

It is the willed use of such a force that is capable of bringinghealth to body and mind. When effectively directed, it acts like amagnet: It attracts to every one of us who employs these meth-ods the things that we require or fervently desire or that are need-ed for our further evolution.

The fundamental, underlying idea of this powerful healing system is this: In the ambient atmosphere surrounding us and

pervading the structure of each one of our body’s cells is a force,a field of energy. This force is omnipresent and infinite; it is aspres-ent in the most infinitesimal object as it is in the most pro-portion-staggering far reaches of the known and unknown uni-verse. This force is life itself.

Nothing in the vast expanse of space is dead. Everything pulsateswith vibrant life; even the subatomic particles of the atom are alive.

The force of life is infinite; we are saturated, permeated throughand through with this force, this energy. It constitutes our higherself; it is our link with the entire universe; it is God within us. Everymolecule of our physical system is permeated with the dynamicenergy of this force; each cell in our body contains it in abundance.

When we consider this force, when we become aware of it, weare then brought face to face with the enigmatic problem under-lying all disease: If we are filled with this energy, and if thisenergy is limitless, how can we become depleted of this healingenergy, and become unhealthy and sick?

What is fatigue? How can there be depletion of our energy ifvitality and cosmic currents of force pour through us constantly, saturating our mind and body with power?

Essentially, it is because we offer so much resistance to its flowthrough us that we become tired and ill. How do we manage to defythe universe? How are we able to offer resistance and opposition tothe very force that underlies our continually evolving universe?

There are many causes of this resistance to the inward flow of thespirit: Most of us were raised to be complacent and confused andeven cowardly from childhood on into adulthood, and most of ushave a false perception of the nature of life.

The fact that this is generally unconscious doesn’t matter — areany of us really aware of all the involuntary processes going onwithin us? Are any of us conscious of the intricate mechanism ofour mental processes, and of the processes by which our food isassimilated and digested, and our blood is circulated, bringingnourishment to every cell?

All these are purely involuntary processes, just as, to a largedegree, our resistances to life are purely involuntary. We havesurrounded ourselves with crystallized shells of prejudices andill-conceived versions of reality; we have shielded ourselveswith a mental armor so dense it affords no entrance to the lightof life that surrounds us and envelops us.

No wonder we become sick, impotent, helpless, poor! No wonderthe average individual is so unable to adequately deal with life!

Life is for you to enjoy. Wouldn’t you love to be naturallystoked every morning? “Why can’t my life be easier?” Hasthat thought ever crossed your mind? That was my mantra

for years. My life felt hard, like drudgery. I could not keep up atwork and was too tired to enjoy my life at home. Good thing I wasmarried to a Life Coach – we took the tools we were taught at“Life Coach School” and used them to nourish and enrich our ownlives: to have more fun, more energy, more ease.

The key was to figure out how to live according to my own set ofvalues. Know myself better? Interesting. Increase my happiness?Measureable. And once I figured out how to live my life com-pletely based on my values? PRICELESS!

Identifying your values is like knowing how to navigate the worldby your unique internal compass. It’s the road into your essenceand personal power. You will gain: • direction, focus and confi-dence • independence and freedom • more control and consisten-cy • credibility and authenticity • increased self-awareness/self-acceptance • ENERGY!

So how do you clarify which values are truly yours? In the April-May issue of Healing Springs, I designed an exercise to help youget started. Here’s another way:m Look at the value words belowand circle 10 that you identify with, as though “MY VALUES”were a recipe and these 10 words would have to be on the ingre-dients list. Tell the truth; pick words that shout, “THIS IS WHO IAM!” not who you think you should be.

Some words will not surprise you. Others may cause you to think:“That would be way too much fun.” “That’s dumb. I should picka better word.” “My life would have to change drastically if thatwas one!”

Those unnerving words may be hidden values you buried for anynumber of reasons, like you’re too busy, you believe you have nochoice or you think you should. Well, stop shoulding all overyourself! Ready, set, start circling!

Okay. You have a list of 10 values, refine thelist to 4 or 5 that have the strongest pull. Thecore of your core. Now try this – pick 1 of yourtop 4 or 5 values and make a list of 5 changes tomake for that value to be honored. Chooseactions you can do within 30 days or so. Youmay not yet be able to completely honor thevalue but you’ll get a feel for what it’s like tolive your life revolving around your valuesrather than the other way around.

The 5 action steps are changes you’ll make inyour life to allow the value to be expressed.

Here’s an example: CREATIVITY1. Let go of projects/commitments that don’t let

you be creative.

2. Surround yourself with 3 friends who are

creative & learn from them.

3. Take an art class.

4. Ask people what they see you being natural-

ly creative at.

5. Pick a project you can finish by the end of the

year that tells you you’re serious

about this value. The objective is to gradually have onlyvalues-based goals. You use your values, not your goals, as the reference point inyour life. That’s what will make thisprocess so exciting and fun!

So clarify your values, live them, plannew ways to honor them and stay tunedfor more ways to simplify your way toa most excellent life. And if you needsupport, you can always hire a LifeCoach!

by Mary T. Sise, LCSW

“Healing is not about making the illusion better, but about releas-ing or getting out of the illusion. We have become separated in ourmind from our true essence, which is pure Light.”

— Her Holiness Sai Maa

What is the illusion? Sai Maa, creator of the globalTransformational Healers Program, teaches that theillusion is the voice of our ego, telling us that we are

our story and continually trying to justify our existence, moods, and opinions. From this space of ego and separation, we contractour energy field, which then creates “dis-ease” within us. Westernmedicine frequently overlooks this, treating only the symptoms ofthe energy contraction such as back pain, cancer or depression.

Transformational healing transcends the “treat the symptom of dis-ease” model of healing. Rather than focusing on symptoms or col-lecting various healing techniques, transformational healing focus-es on the cause of the contraction in our energy field, mind or body;and also on the spiritual role of the healer. Moving beyond theego's concept of disease or conditions, we naturally enter a place ofesoteric knowledge—the spiritual dimension of healing—and learnhow to transform contracted energy with love and compassion.

In the role of the healer, we recognize that, similar to a tuningfork, our own energetic vibration impacts others. When we

acknowledge andrelease our ownlower vibrationalfears, we are thenable to experiencethe higher dimen-sional levels wherehealing occurs natu-rally. The mecha-nism or modality forthe transfer of energy(i.e., talk therapy, surgery, massage)although necessary, becomes much lessimportant. All greatmasters have shownus that healingoccurs when highervibrational energycomes into contactwith a lower vibra-tional condition.

There are two importantquestions to ponder: If thehealer’s vibration is soimportant, how do weincrease our own capacityfor Light to flow throughus? And, if we are not com-ing from a space of pureLight, will we incur karma?

The issue of incurringkarma was one of the mostshocking things I becameaware of during my train-ing with Sai Maa. Sai Maastates that everything iskarma, and if we takemoney when we ourselveshave not healed something, we are incurring karma. When I firstheard this, I reflected back on my years as a therapist, and Icouldn’t help but think about those clients with whom I becamefrustrated with or might have labeled as “resistant.” Did thatmean I had the same issues as the client and just couldn’t helpthem until I cleared the energy from within myself first? Theanswer was a resounding yes. And, if I was taking money forthis, not only was I not helping clients, I was preventing themfrom receiving the help they needed.

All healing happens in the vibration of Love. The minute Ibecome frustrated or controlling, the Light can no longer flowthrough me to the client. This doesn’t just apply to energy heal-ers, but to everyone in the healing role—doctors, massage thera-pists, talk therapists, etc. When we are “in the flow,” it seemsmagical—we ask the right clinical questions, have brilliantinsights and say the perfect thing. This is what is meant by beingin alignment with our higher self, the Divine within us.

As described above, healing happens when a higher vibrationmeets a contracted vibration. Since there are only two energieson this planet—love and fear—this means that healers cannothave the same vibration as the client, otherwise the healer will betriggered and go into contraction themselves. The expression ofthe fear may be different (shame, judgment, anger, terror, guilt, unworthiness), but the healer must have healed that energy within themselves to be a clear, effective conduit of healingLight. If the healer isn’t coming from that higher space, than heor she is using their own personal energy, which is exhaustingand, frankly, not very powerful. This is how those in the healingprofession get sick themselves.

As I continued to learn Sai Maa’s teachings on healing, I began tonotice that when I was giving advice that I didn’t practice myself, the other person didn’t receive it. It was uncanny. I also realized

Transformational Healing: The Spiritual Role of the Healer

Page 25: Hsj68junejuly13

25#68 June—July, 2013 I Healing Springs

that, at times, I would be listening to someone speak and it mightbe something I had heard a million times before, but this time itjust “sank in” in a new, powerful way. I discovered that this wasbecause the person actually embodied what they were speakingabout. I learned that healing doesn’t happen with the words I say.Healing only happens with the energy I AM. If my words don’tmatch my vibration, then they have no power to heal or transform.

At this moment in time, we are blessed to have the presence ofa living Master, Sai Maa, who brings to us the esoteric knowl-edge of vibrant health and healing at all levels. Sai Maa statesthat everyone is a healer and created the TransformationalHealers Program to educate and empower us to align ourselveswith this Divine knowledge to serve others. In addition, justsimply being in the presence of a living Master attunes our ownfrequencies to a higher level. This, in turn, serves the planet. Each transformational healing workshop with Sai Maa includesesoteric teachings as well as initiations of Divine Light toempower us in our daily lives and to serve others.

A Transformational Healers Day with Sai Maa will be held onJune 28 in Albany, New York. Those serving in the healing roleas professionals, volunteers, and students are welcome to par-ticipate. That same evening, Sai Maa will be offering Darshan, and on June 29, Sai Maa and her teachers will present a day-long workshop for the public titled Love is the Key. QLately, the world seems to be out of control, and I feelthat it is affecting my own as well others feelings ofsafety. I feel a bit afraid and notice a lot of my friends,

family, and peers seem to suffering with some level of fear. What can you do to help us stay in balance?

Homeopathy; Jerome PindellFear arises from the limitations of facing the unexplainable, thefeeling of being unable to manage a difficult situation, the dis-connected explanations of why an event happened. The need tounderstand CAN give rise to empathy or it can give way to hos-tility. Any hostile response will engender push back, as in whenit arises from the individual response to drug therapies that aregenerally designed to overwhelm without regard to the uniquecircumstances of the individual. When hostile responses occurwithin the relationship of individuals, of regions, of countries, ethnic differences, or religions, the countering response is usual-ly one that escalates the inflamed tensions, and often leaves thoseat the periphery in fear.

Hostility can be seen in our language as in: the war on cancer, ondrugs, on bullying, on extremism, or the fight against....this, that,or the other problem for which the limits of our perspective havefallen short of expectations.

What happens with fear as an emotion when it is suppressed? When unexamined it can cause us to withdraw. Any effort, otherthan to face it and recognize it, will leave that energy in the sub-conscious psyche to seek an attachment where the individual cangive a face to the feeling, and then attempt to manage it. Butwhat happens when the larger community begins to feel unsafeeven in the safety of their home, their community or their coun-try? They begin to feel vulnerable and susceptible. Look at theBoston marathon bombing, the search for the suspect and theeventual capture. The aftermath was as palpable a collectivesense of relief as was what preceded it, the fear, the sense of pow-erlessness and a lack of safety. It was a collective feeling, felt byeveryone affected and also by everyone witnessing it from afar. That imprint on the collective psyche has an effect on the longterm ways in which our more vulnerable community memberscarry on their daily routines, how they look at various situations, and make decisions. Suspicions become more common place inour responses, and underlying that is fear / anxiety.

That is fear, and a fear that limits us and our ability to make clearchoices, free of emotional triggers that our conscious mind mightbe able to recognize immediately.

It is this "background energy", that doesn't quite rise to the con-scious level within the context of our daily lives, that has animpact on the totality of our life and our health. I witness it'simpact day after day in infants, children, and adults. The older weget the more likely we are to rationalize its impact, but it is there.

I use all of the tools that I have been given to assist clients inlearning how to place this surreal sensation into a very real andmanageable context. Whether it is a single modality or a combi-nation of homeopathy, hypnosis, jin shin jyutsu and counseling, the important message here is that each person must examine theirindividual life and lay claim to what is theirs and what is not. Findthe supports that can be of some assistance in maintaining yourinner calm and balance. The tools that I use are but a few that DOwork, but there are many others, such as those that my colleagueshere offer. Most importantly, avoid burying the feeling, whetherthrough drug therapy or sweeping them under the proverbial rug. Those feelings will only grow, if unexamined.

Be willing to explore outside the range of your normal explana-tions of causes. Give over to quiet times, meditation, reflection. The question that you pose here is an important one, and deservesthe attention of everyone. Thank you for recognizing it and pos-ing it here for our community.

Jerome M Pindell facilitates healing through a broad number oftools. Oriental Medicine; Gregg St ClairWe’ve had questions about anxiety, stress and depression in thepast but fear is very specific. I’ve actually been working on anarticle focusing on a concept I call eco-dysphoria that I believerelates. The fear you are talking about is not merely a personalfear; such as: I’m afraid I’m going to lose my job; but one con-nected to what’s happening in society. Eco-dysphoria is a result ofsensitivity and the feeling out of sorts to the goings on in our envi-ronment.

Today, our environment is no longer only local but worldwideand we have instant news and tweets to reinforce this connectivi-ty. In Oriental Medicine we say that being human is a microcosmfor the Earth so as things go in the world, so they go with us. Ifthe world is out of balance, so are we. Historically, social changehappened slowly over decades and centuries, but now things aremoving so fast it’s no wonder stress, anxiety and suicide rateshave sky rocketed in modern countries. Even among child psy-chology is the idea that ADHD is a result of modern culture caus-ing hyperactivity in children; and Autism is a strategy of shuttingdown as a way to cope with all the over stimulation.

So I believe the fear you are talking about is a direct correlation toyour sensitivity, showing how in-tune you are with the “out-of-tune-

ness” of the world. In Acupuncture every organ has a different emo-tion connected to it and fear is related to the kidneys. What’s reallyinteresting about this is that the kidneys also harbor our potential anddestiny. It’s fear we need to overcome to tap into the best part of us.Our will power is also stored in our kidneys which tell us: it takeswill power to overcome our fear and tap into our highest potential. Itdoesn’t mean we won’t have fear, but we will not be overpoweredby it. This is a goal that can sometimes take work.

One thing acupuncture does to help is release endorphins thatcalm the mind, reduce anxiety and fear, and create a sense of well-being. We also have herbs that can be used as options to psychi-atric drugs. I believe that the rising trend in alternative and com-plementary therapies is parallel with humanities rising conscious-ness about our environmental responsibility and spirituality.Everything is out of balance. We need political, economic, envi-ronmental, health and education reform. Mankind is facing one ofthe largest evolutionary shifts in our history. To evolve means togrow into the unknown. We fear what we don’t know. It makessense that we have fear. It’s a scary world. You need to find thetools that work for you; such as acupuncture, meditation, yoga ortherapy; to help deal with the eco-dysphoria that doesn’t appear tobe slowing down anytime soon.

Chiropractor; Lynn AllisonA teacher once told me life was like a double paned window. Thelower pane is all those things you could not change and to focuson the upper pane. This you can change, bringing hope and joyback into your life. Consider learning something new, work withyour hands creatively.

Preparing and eating well with foods that are in season, thatplease all of your senses and reminds your midbrain that you arenurturing yourself. Also, that time does not stand still so this toowill pass and that life is pleasant. We are able to hold one thoughtat a time and practicing countering fearful thoughts with hopefulthoughts will help.

Physiologically all of these things will stimulate the release ofnitric oxide in your cells as well as easy exercise and activity, green leafy vegetables and sunlight. They will change your stresslevel from fear. Diaphragmatic breathing like baby's sleepingbreathe lowers blood pressure, eases depression and fear as wellas massaging our organs.

by Dr. Lisa Fraine

When I moved to the beautiful city of Saratoga SpringsI had no idea of the plethora of healing arts that existswithin this tiny community. I was equally pleased to

learn of the many levels of healing opportunities that existthrough the different types of healing techniques that I becameaware of through practitioners at group gatherings, local journalsand through social networking. Along the way, I stumbled upona wonderful experience and grew a friendship with NancyKendall the co-owner of The Healing Spirit Center that is locat-ed within the Arcade Building on Broadway. With a referralfrom a new friend, Abigail Thurston, I found Nancy at a verystressful time in my life. There is a saying “if you ask, you willreceive”. I always seem to get just what I need at just theright....serendipity of the Universe! Now, being a healing practi-tioner myself, I know the importance of self care and preserva-tion during times of increased stress but there have been times inmy life when I have chosen to put others before myself. Not tointentionally cause myself suffering but mostly because of practicality.

With our move to Saratoga Springs in the spring of 2011 camethe known diagnosis of cancer for my husband. He had alreadyhad surgery to remove the diseased tissue from two sites in Aprilat Johns Hopkins University Hospital just after accepting a newposition that would move us four hundred miles from our previ-ous home. He took on the responsibility of a new work opportu-nity a short ten days after his surgery. At that time we did notknow the extent of the cancer. We were very fortunate to find allthe services he needed here in Saratoga; not only the medicalcare but the holistic therapies as well. Initially, he chose to go themedical route of chemo and radiation therapies. I worked withhim in a holistic manner exclusively during his physical evacua-tion of cancer. I assisted him to get to the root of the problemthrough RoHun; to understand the faulty thoughts and unheardfeelings. To work in the etheric layer of his body. He grew tounderstand that the creation of these thoughts and emotions werejust as guilty for causing the result of this disease in his physicalbody as any other genetic or environmental contribution. Whenall was finished on the medical realm, he knew it was time to ridhis physical nature of the toxins that had killed the cancer cells. He then chose to embrace other holistic therapies to rebuild hisbody. One of which included the massage therapy that Nancyhad to offer. We both were in need of balance and so we soughtout Nancy’s services as a way of shedding the imbalances ener-getically through the physical means of massage.

Coming to The Healing Spirit Center was like going into a sacredspace. Immediately we felt at ease within the womb of TheHealing Spirit Center. The energy is soft and embracing. A spec-tacular mood for healing to occur. I often felt as though I beganreleasing on the couch, even as we chatted before the physicalwork began. We both felt the utmost respect and safety in this

space. Something that is so important for inner healing to occur.I know that when I refer someone to the practitioners at TheHealing Spirit Center, they will have an incredible experience, maybe even life altering. It is a great testament to our healingpractitioners in the Saratoga Springs area. My husband contin-ues to make improvements. It will soon be two years and thatmagic word will eventually appear on the lips of the medicalpractitioners who have cared for him. But he and I already knowhe is ‘cured’ because it has been his desire to be cured.

One of the healing therapies that I had chosen to use with myhusband was a simple form of healing through the etheric body. The etheric body is an energetic layer that mimics the physicalbody. It is the life force or animating power of our physicalbody and it is the place where physical imbalances and diseasefirst begin to exhibit before manifesting in the physical body. Itis the template for the physical body, so healing must occur inthe etheric body to permanently affect healing in the physicalbody. The physical body and the etheric body are important toour overall balance and health. If we encircle ourselves with toomuch negativity, whether it be through relationships or circum-stances, eventually that wears on our etheric system and createstears, ripples and holes in this part of our physical system. Theresult is a decrease in our immune system, in our abilities to sus-tain our physical system and eventually, the manifestation ofdiseases, such as colds or even cancer. The constant barragingof negative energy on the physical system, time after time, overtime, is the cause of more serious illnesses.

One way to build our etheric system is to recognize the impor-tance of physical rest for the body and the process of mental andemotional maturation for this system to allow for healing on anenergetic level. I have found that simple relaxation and takingtime for the self, meditation, the simple act of breathing in chior life force, playing at what we enjoy, are all ways to replenishthe physical and etheric, life giving bodies. Another route is toenjoy the simple pleasure of receiving etheric energy as a resultof attending a healing called Healing Sanctuary.

I attended a school in the Georgia mountains called DelphiUniversity. It is an amazing spiritual center and I found anequally amazing tool for healing at their Healing Sanctuary. Somuch so that I have joined forces with others in SaratogaSprings to bring a Healing Sanctuary to our area. The HealingSanctuary at Delphi is dedicated to the infamous “man of Light”Mauricio Panisset. Mauricio was an incredible Brazilian healerwho filled the individual with whom he worked (and the room)with Light. When he worked, physical Light came from hisbody to the individual who was receiving the healing. TheHealing Sanctuary was created as a testament to Mauricio forhis Love of all men and his dedication to healing.

Now Healing Sanctuary will be a part of the Saratoga Springsarea. I have studied with Mauricio’s wife, Kimberly PanissetCurcio, along with other educators at Delphi who lived andworked with Mauricio. My colleagues here in Saratoga, NancyKendall, Theresa Kennedy and myself will channel this highenergy of the Healing Sanctuary and bring this healing oppor-tunity to Saratoga Springs every third Friday evening at The
