The fix was to change the order of events and check for certainconditions before making power management calls to avoidscenarios where there is no response form the bus driver.

returning from, or going to, a low power system state. Themodem was found to be in a loop waiting for the bus driver. Thechange in the modem is to remove an indefinite wait state in thecase where the bus driver is unavailable. This allows the systemto return or enter the desired state without locking up. This doesnot ensure that the modem will work, as the bus driver must beavailable for proper modem operation.

The modem was changed to prevent a system failureseen during Driver Verifier NDIS-Standby Open test.The modem driver was attempting to access information

that had expired. This access of invalid informationcauses the system to blue screen. The change addsconditional checks on the information to ensure thatthey are valid prior to access. The blue screen indicatesthat the failure was probably caused byHSF_CNXT.sys.

The modem was changed to implement a work aroundfor an issue seen with SmartHSF4 (Bryce) whenattempting WOR from S4. The symptom was that thesystem was no longer responsive after the RING wasdetected and the system begins to return from S4. Theproblem was found to be rooted in the status of the PLLused for the clock signal. In the failure mode the PLL

was not configured to run. The work around is to ensurethat the PLL is running in the routine used to return fromthe low power state. Since the SmartDAA4 does nothave more than one power mode, it was assumed thatthe PLL (clock) would be running while the modem isactive. The change is to remove the assumption and toverify the clock is running when the modem is directedto return from the low power state.
