6Leave your dog in its dog house when it's time for you to go to bed. Lock yourdog in its crate! Leave a small bowl of water where it can reach it at night. Small enough that if it spills it doesn't ruin the crate but big enough that the dog can get a drink, even dogs get thirsty at night. As a puppy many dogs need togo out at night, so keep the dog close enough to you that you can hear its barking. Another reason to keep it close is so it feels like part of the family. Ifyou don't keep it close it can be scared of every little thing as it feels it has no protection.

EditTipsAlways praise your dog if they obey your command. Stroke them and say "Good Dog!". They will like the attention and want more.Dogs will love you forever if you treat them correctly. Whatever you do, NEVER hit your dog or abuse him/her in any way. Also, never taunt him/her as it will frustrate them and they will begin to dislike you. The worst punishment for a dogis being yelled at after the deed is over and done. They forget and don't understand what they are being yelled at for. When you punish be sure to do it immediately, without any waiting.Reward them each time they obey your command. Use small treats and remember not

to over feed your dog.Pay attention to your dog. If they suddenly start whining all the time, stop eating or any other bizarre behaviour, then go to the vet immediately.Always brush your dog because of fleas and loose hair. When dogs are good and/or they obey you give them a treat, but no more then one and not constantly. This will make them think it's an ordinary part of the routine, and it will no longer be seen as a treat. Do your best not to talk to dogs ina high-pitched voice when congratulating them. Also, stroke their fur from theirhead to tail, not vise-versa as this will irritate them.Make sure the commands aren't too similar as your dog may get confused. eg. SitDown and Lie Down. Try Sit and Down as they are more common and know by most anyone. When dogs are good, give them a treat. Don't give them more than one, because th

en they will expect you to give them treats more often. When the treats are outand they're being a good dog, say "good dog" (but not in a squeaky voice) and besure to stroke their fur.

EditWarningsDon't jump on a dog for every little thing they do. When a puppy reward for goodbehavior but as they get older still say good dog but don't bombard with treatsand toys as soon as they sit.EditRelated wikiHows
