How to Submit Assignments when
Odyssey is Slow or Fails
Outline
1. Download and Install Your Client Software
2. FTP your Files to Your UNIX Account
3. Submit your Files through a UNIX Shell

Assumptions
For Windows (I don’t own a MAC)
Submitting from your own laptop or PC; i.e. you
are NOT using a lab computer
We are trying to submit A4
You are connected to the Internet, obviously

Downloading Your Client
Software
1. Go to
http://ist.uwaterloo.ca/istweb/isthomepage.htm/
2. Click on the link entitled Get Software
3. Click on the link entitled Software Depot
4. Click on the link entitled Windows SSH Client
5. Enter your UW userid and Quest password
6. Click on the link entitled Download the Latest

Installing your Client Software
1. Run the Installer Program you just downloaded
2. Follow all of the installer prompts
3. Allow the installer to put icons on your desktop
4. Once the installation process is finished, you
should see two icons on your desktop that look
like this:

Try and use Odyssey first; arguably, it is easier
Use this approach only when it appears the
Odyssey is slow or appears to be failing
You can use the approach repeatedly, but you will
be warned that you are trying to overwrite files
when FTPing your new files to Remote;
generally, you want to respond “Yes” to overwrite
warnings
At the time of writing, there is no word on how A3
late submissions will be handled
