Tools you will need: Pliers Wire stripper, crimper tool Soldering equipment 10mm spanner 4mm bullets Screwdrivers

Offical Apexi Documents: http://www.apexi-usa.com/info/?id=5383

1. Disconnect negative battery terminal.

2. Remove the passenger side kickpanel, unscrew the ECU loom and pull it out.

3. Tap the SAFC wires into the ECU wires - effectively creating a T-Junction.(It is highly recommended to solder then insulate any exposed wires with tape or shrink wrap)

SAFC Red to ECU IG power (Black White)

SAFC Green to ECU RPM (Blue/White)

SAFC Grey to ECU throttle (Pink/Blue)

SAFC Black to ECU ground (Black) (* important note below)

SAFC Brown to ECU ground (Black) (* important note below)

4. Now cut the AFM (Orange/Blue) wire and connect it to the ‘White’ SAFC wire using bullets. Then wire the AFM’s ECU side (Orange/Blue) wire into the Yellow SAFC wire using bullets. By using bullets you can easily unplug the SAFC wires and revert back to the factory ECU setup.

5. Knock sensor installation is optional and requires a little testing. There are 2 knock sensors, you need to feed off the better signal - it’s a little tedious. If you wish to skip knock sensor wiring then jump to steps 6-9 Firstly, temporarily wire the SAFC Purple wire into the ECU (White) knock signal 2 wire. Now move onto step 5 as you will need to finish off knock sensor installation later on.

6. Reconnect the negative battery terminal and plug the loom back in.

7. Turn on the IGN switch, but do not start the engine.Check the characters on the screen are displayed correctly, if not - do not proceed.

8. I purchased my SAFC 2nd hand which came off a GT Starlet, so I needed to wipe all pre existing settings /tunes. You do this by going into the etc. menu and select Initialize. If your SAFC is new then ignore this step.

9. You now need to take the SAFC through initial setup;

Select etc. from the main menu.Select Sensor TypeSelect Hot-WireSet the Sens No. to 01 for both IN & OUTSet the Sens Cal. to 1 for both IN & OUT

Back into the etc. menu and select Car SelectSet Cyl to 6 and Thr to

10. All remaining steps are related to knock sensor installation, otherwise skip to 12.

Start the car and let it idle for 60 secs.Go into the etc. menu and select Sens chkRev the car to 2000rpm & note down the knk value

11. Disconnect the negative battery terminal, remove the loom. Unwire step 5, then rewire the SAFC Purpleinto ECU (White) knock signal 1. Reconnect the negative battery terminal, plug in the loom.

Start the car, and let it idle for 60 secs.Go into the etc. menu and select Sens chkRev the car to 2000rpm & note down the knk value

Now that you have knock levels registered from both sensors the manual recommends you permanently wire up the sensor that registered a higher value. If there is little difference the manual states to stick with knock signal 1. Refer to p38 of the Apexi Instruction Manual for knock signal correction and setup.

12. Reconnect your battery if you haven’t already. Start up the car and take it for a spin, it should drive normally - time to get it tuned!
