IFS – International Featured Standards – are uniform standards that work to control product safety and quality. More than 20.000 companies worldwide have already successfully implemented the requirements of these safety and quality standards. This means that all these companies were audited with a checklist that covers product and process safety, quality aspects, legal requirements and customer specifications. This allows IFS certified companies to prove that they – beyond legal requirements – can produce and maintain a safe and conforming product in accordance with the specifications agreed with their customer(s).

The quality of the IFS Audit is significantly determined by the persons auditing the IFS Standard in the companies. The meaningfulness of an IFS certificate depends on their competence, qualification and judgement. That is why IFS attaches great value to the selection, further education and examination of IFS Auditors. ”

Britta Müller Wahl, IFS Director Auditor Management

What is IFS?

The qualification of the IFS Auditors is an elementary component of the IFS Quality Assurance. In practice, IFS Auditors are responsible for the optimal implementation of our standards and therefore the eyes and ears for the IFS as an organization and our jointly standards.

Therefore the process of approval for auditors is very important and trans-parently described in Part 3 of each IFS Standard and complementary in the related IFS Doctrine.

So far the IFS distinguishes between three different approaches:

1. IFS exclusive Auditors

These auditors are exclusively working for one certification body ONLY.

What are IFS Auditors and which different approaches for approval do exist?

for auditors with audit experience

This approach is the traditional IFS approach and meant for experienced auditors, exclusively working for one certification body .

for auditors without audit experience

The so called “Auditor in Progress” program published in May 2015 was developed for those applicants with no audit experience, but who fulfill all other requirements.

2. IFS non-exclusive Auditors

This approach is only possible for applicants with audit experience who want to work non-exclusively for several certification bodies.
