How does your media product represent particular social groups ? Teenagers: In this opening shot there is a football flag in the right hand top corner. There is a stereotypical view that most teenage boys like football and it would be very common to go into a teenagers boys bedroom as see one there. So as soon as the audience see this they will know that the main character is portraying a teenager. Also there is a mobile phone right next to him, this reinforces the fact that most people would say teenagers can’t live without their phones. The phone next to the character not only makes the phone significant it also shows that he is never far away from his phone (like most teenagers) This scene uses props also to reflect the age group that I’m targeting with this movie. We can see top left that there is a shaving razor, this is key to a teenagers day to day maintenance. Most teenagers keep their appearance perfect because it’s important and this is another prop which would help reinforce that. Additionally there are facial wipes bottom right. With the switch into the bathroom we can see the characters face properly in decent light, now we finally see how old he is.

Teenagers:

In this opening shot there is a football flag in the right hand top corner.

The phone next to the character not only makes the phone significant it also shows that he is never far away from his phone (like most teenagers)

He also has an alarm clock set quite early, possible going to school and getting ready for something again, the composition of this shot reflects an average teenage boys bedroom.

This scene uses props also to reflect the age group that I’m targeting with this movie.

We can see in this shot that top right the banister is cluttered with what looks likes shirts and trousers, possibly school clothes this epitomises the stereotypical view that all teenagers are extremely untidy and leave all their clothes scattered around the house. At this point the audience should be beginning to understand that this opening is a teen horror due to the carefully thought out props and their positions within the shots, all the elements implemented correctly achieves my desired effect.

For my character I have chosen to go with the ‘teenage boy on his own’ the reason why is because this is a convention used in teen horrors often so the audience will be able to relate to this. The other aspect is the costume and design of the character, because it was set in the morning the normal clothes to wear would been pyjamas but I had to take into consideration that it had to be appropriate to what teenagers would wear.

For this reason I decided to go with something that many teenagers would wear in the mornings; a lightly coloured dressing down, a bright blue top, and red trousers. All these colours are light and are not dull this relates to the average personality of a teenager which would normally be bubbly and cheerful. If I was to put dull clothes this wouldn’t represent teenagers as accurately.

Making sure that my research and planning was accurate provided me with a huge advantage of making sure that I picked out correct costume for my character as I found out what they would wear and what colours represent different emotions and what age group wear particular colours more often than others.
