How does media products represent par1cular social groups?
My typical reader
I used a woman for the main ar1cle as I thought that it may a:ract more of an audience. The male gaze theory is telling us that by using women in a magazine specifically designed for men that it will a:ract them to buy it more. The male gaze is used in many magazines such as Q and rolling stones to a:ract their target audience and that is why I will be using it because my target audience is men. I also think that using a woman on the front cover would a:ract the small percentage of women who would be interested in reading the magazine because it gives them someone to look up to.
Another thing is the language I have used shows the representa1on and stereotypes theory because I have used language throughout the magazine, mostly in the double page spread, that an older audience would be ale to understand appose to using slang or jargon specified for a younger audience. This is really important because if my audience doesn’t understand or like the language I am using then they would not want to buy or read the magazine. For example the language they use in a magazine with the target audience of 10 year old girls is going to be simple and happy because of their age, however my target audience is older than that meaning the would want to read something a bit more formal and sophis1cated.
The colours that I have chosen to use are very natural colours such as blues and browns, this is because they are very male colours and also they are the colours I most think of when thinking of folk music because the genre of music to e is very natural as well, that is why I have chosen to use them in my magazine. I also figured that if my audience like folk music which they obviously would otherwise they wouldn’t buy the magazine then they would also like the colours I have used.
I have thought about what my target audiences hobbies and interest would be and used them in the magazine to a:ract them more. For example I think that my target reader would play an instrument so I have made the person who the ar1cle is about hold a guitar to show they have something in common. I also think that my target audience would love to be outdoors and is a very outdoors sort of character, I have taken what I think they are like in this sense and taken some of the photographs that I have used in my magazine outside in woodland or in fields and I think this will a:ract the audience because again they would have something in common.
