How does your media product represent particular
social groups?
The social group I have represented in my magazine are indie styled teenagers and young people.I have represented this through my images. For example I took photographs of Caitlin in indie style clothing to show the styled clothes indie rock/pop artists and teenagers wear.
I feel I have represented unstereotypical teenagers and challenged the way teenagers are perceived in the public eye. In my photographs I represented teenagers to be relaxed and calming whereas existing music magazines represent teenagers as rebellious and loud. Existing music magazine use dominant ideology to represent teenagers and young people whereas my magazine shows an emergent ideology and challenges the Medias views.
I used informal language in my magazine to have a friendly and chatty vibe towards the magazine. I made this decision because I wanted my target audience to my interested in the chatty styled text. By choosing to use informal language suggested to my audience this magazine was made for them. I used large pictures to balance out the ratio of pictures and text. I made this decision because I didn’t want my audience to be put off by the amount of text given. By having large pictures balances out the text on the page.
