Success Story: Gulf Coast Housing Partnership, New Orleans, LA
HPN created the Gulf Coast Housing Partnership (GCHP) to lead the rebuilding of housing and
communities in Louisiana and Mississippi. This innovative public/private partnership grew out of
the recovery efforts of HPN members that assisted thousands of families after the devastation
of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. As partners shared strategies for helping families in crisis find
housing in their own communities, HPN recognized the need for a nonprofit that could address the
permanent housing and rebuilding needs of New Orleans and the broader region. In 2009, GCHP
was spun off from HPN management and is now a locally-operated nonprofit housing entity.
