Building Services Gowing & Hunt Ltd Hotel Felix - Cambridge The original building was constructed in 1852 for surgeon at Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge and was used as a family home until it was purchased by Cambridgeshire County Council. The building was then known as the Country Centre, offering a range of classes such as needlework, ballroom dancing and home economics. The building was bought by the current owners in 1992 who carried out huge renovation and refurbishment works, creating Hotel Felix – the first four star boutique hotel in Cambridge. Hotel Felix takes its name from, Saint Felix of Burgundy who was Apostle to the East Angles and the first person to introduce Latin Christianity to Cambridgeshire during the 7th Century. Saint Felix also founded a number of schools in the area including the University of Cambridge. Gowing and Hunt have been employed direct by the client to install VRF air conditioning to all the hotel rooms and conference areas. Power, and controls wiring has all been carried out by Gowing & Hunt, along with insulation to the building, roof spaces and all new services. Builderswork, decorations and even the installation of fencing and protection around the external condensing units was carried out by Gowing and Hunt. New purpose designed electric heating that could be easily disconnected and removed during the summer, was installed to the restaurant, with new over door curtains installed within reception. The scheme designed by MLM Consulting Engineers (Cambridge) was completed in several phases to suit hotel bookings and the client’s requirements over a period stretching into 3 years.

The original building was constructed in 1852 for surgeon at Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge and was used as a family home until it was purchased by Cambridgeshire County Council.
