The 3 Project Phases
Phase 1 - Concept & Feasibility Assessment
– A lump sum of € 50000 in EU
funding and 3 days of coaching
– Feasibility study
– Initial 10 page business proposal to be submitted
– Around 6 months in duration
Phase 2 – Innovation Project
– Develop project through innovation
strategy
– Around 1-2 years in duration
– Between €0.5 million and €2.5 million in EU funding (exceptions apply) and 12 days of coaching
– Draft a more developed, 30 page business plan
– 70% funding rate (exceptions apply)
– TRL 6 or above recommended
Phase 3 – Market launch
(not part of the evaluation but compulsory since June 2016)
– No direct funding
– Extensive support and coaching (3 days for Phase 1 beneficiaries and 12 days for Phase 2)
– Facilitate access to risk finance
– Additional support and networking opportunities (EEN)

a) Supporting innovative SMEs in the healthcare biotechnology sector (No phase 1 applications at all in 2017) b) PHC12-2014-2015 - Clinical research for the validation of biomarkers and/or diagnostic medical devices (only at the first cut-off date in 2017 and for phase 2 applications - phasing out of the topic introduced in the Work Programme 2014-2015)
Specific Rules for SMEInst-05 – TRL indication does not apply – Contribution up to € 5 million – Funding rate at 100% – General model Grant Agreement applies – No evaluation of best value for money of subcontracting
