provides. FYS tries to ease them into the new envi-ronment and everything that comes along with it. Es-sentially, helping students build a connection to the University as a whole and truly become comfortable. Many students are thankful that they require this class

because it helps with their development. So, how is regular FYS different from Hon-ors FYS? Of course, the amount of work and the

difficulty of that work contributes to the contrast in the classes. However, this is not the only difference. Honors allows student to “get their feet grounded” in terms of deciding majors and minors. This allows hon-ors students to get the upper edge, and declare their major earlier than their non-honors counterparts. This year this class will be taugh by Geoffrey Whitebread.

As we welcome the new students into the Honors Program, we’d like to first congratulate these elite students on their past accomplishments! We look forward to knowing them for the next 4 years! New students are required to take FYS 101 during their first year at Gallaudet. Now what is FYS exactly? FYS, or First Year Seminar, has a variety of purposes and all are to help students transition form high school and college. As many upperclass-men and second year students know, there is a signif-cant difference from high school and college such as the independents and new experiences. So how does FYS help with these transitions? Majority of FYS classes focuses on time management skills due to the fact that many incoming students are new at experiencing the independence that college
