Parent/Carer Information A Child’s War Mrs Metcalfe, Miss McMaster & Miss Ramshaw Spring Term 1 Homework Project As part of the topic A Child’s War, children in Y5/6 will be learning about many aspects of World War 2. For their homework project this half term, we would like the children to build a bomb shelter; these will be judged based on their strength on the 7 th of February 2018, so be mindful of what materials you use!

Homework Project

As part of the topic A Child’s War, children in Y5/6 will be learning about many aspects of World War 2.

For their homework project this half term, we would like the children to build a bomb shelter; these will be judged based on their strength on the 7th of February 2018, so be mindful of what materials you use!

War 2

To use a wide range of sources to find about Evacuees in World War 2

To compare the lives of children from different parts of the world during World War 2.

Numeracy Division Area and Perimeter Fractions/Decimals/Percentages Multiplying and Dividing by

10/100/100.

Geography Identifying which countries were

involved in ww2.

Using the internet and maps to locate which cities were more prone to bombings than others.

Identifying where evacuees were sent and explain why these were considered safer.

D&T Identify the types of food that were

rationed during and after the war.

Use knowledge of rationed food to make war time recipes and identify what ingredients have been ‘swopped’ due to rationing.

Evaluate food made to show if they like the war time recipes and how it would have felt to those that had to live on it for long periods of time.

Music Guitar lessons.

Physical Education

Gymnastics.

Things to remember: PE Monday and Tuesday – PE kit to be kept

in school all week (outdoor kit will be required)

Guitars- Wednesday Learn multiplication and division facts. Spellings - sent home on Friday to be learnt

for test on the following Friday Please listen to your child read 3 times per

week. Reading records back on Friday please.
