HOMEWORK POLICY

• Please check books before signing

• If homework is not done – a demerit will be given.

• Once they have received 5 demerits they will sit detention.

• Do not sign if work is not done – please write a note.

Exam & Test procedures

• In accordance with the Education Department, Teachers may not answer questions or read through the paper with your child.

• No books or pencil bags are allowed on desks while writing.

• No talking or communicating in any way (while papers are being handed out or during the exam) – this will result in the paper being taken away and not being marked.

• If absent, a doctor’s certificate needs to be provided.• Test or examination timetables are always sent out to

stipulate what to learn and what dates they are writing on.

• ANA exams will be written in September for English and Mathematics.

Promotion requirements according to CAPS

• What needs to be achieved in order to be promoted to Grade 7

• 4 – (50% - 59%) – English Home Language• 3 – (40% - 49%) – First Additional Language• 3 – (40% -49%) – Mathematics• They must receive two 3 ratings in any other

learning area.• End of year exam counts for 25% of their final

mark. 75% comes from the whole year’s work.

CAPS

• Subjects for this year:• English, Afrikaans, Life Skills (Xhosa forms part

of this), Natural Science and Technology, Social Science and Mathematics.

• All lessons taken by other teachers need to be given the same amount of attention and hard work. All work done counts towards your child’s report. (For example: Phys Ed, Art, Music and Library and Computers.)

Remedial & Counselling

• There will be remedial lessons given to children who are struggling in reading and spelling.

• From this one can determine if further testing is required.

• Extra lessons – we encourage parents to send children who are struggling in order to receive extra support. Please check the sport timetable to make sure lessons do not clash with sport.

• Nadine Thorpe has started with us this year and is a qualified counsellor. She is here to assist the children who are experiencing difficulties.

Assignments & Projects

• No extensions will be given. Children are to stick to the due dates. ALL work must be done and handed in.

• This is to teach them time management and responsibility

• Ample time is given for projects etc. It is never given the day before.

• Plagiarism – Work needs to be in their own words.

• Parents can guide and assist but please do not do the work for your child.

Attendance

• It is vital that your child is at school on a daily basis.

• It is your child’s responsibility to catch up the work missed.

• A letter needs to be sent with your child the following day excusing him/her from school and any sport missed in the afternoon.

Classroom procedures

• Medication – Letter sent to teacher and medication handed to the teacher first thing in the morning.

• Money – sent in a marked envelope to school.

• Stationery – Please mark all stationery clearly and ensure your child has the necessary stationery at all times.

• Cell phones – May not be used during school hours. They MUST be handed in first thing in the morning. They will be locked away in the safe. A phone will be taken away if found on a pupil during school hours.

• Every child needs a book bag for Library. These can be bought from the book room.

Discipline• Detention will be given once your child has received 5

demerits.• Demerit forms will be required to be signed by you.• A letter will be sent home informing you of the time for

detention.• If your child is continuously badly behaved they will be

excluded from all outings (camps and excursions)• Parents will be contacted by the teacher if behaviour is

continuously bad.• Teacher – HOG – SMT – Principal• Please we request that parents do NOT write up issues on

social media sites. Please come and see us to try resolve the problems.

• If a situation has occurred please speak to the teachers to get ALL the information.

• The saying goes that – “manners maketh the man.” This is one of our main goals.

• Self-discipline is most important and this can only be achieved if parents and teachers support one another. We cannot keep making excuses for the children. They need to learn that for every action there is a consequence, either positive or negative.

• Please show respect towards the teachers at home. Should you have a concern, please make an appointment either with the teacher or grade head to address the problem, rather than bad-mouth the teacher in front of your child.

Prefect System

• Children need to apply to become a prefect.

• This year a point system will be in place.• Children will be given points for attending

school, participating in sport and cultural activities, for behaviour (manners) and school work.

• To apply to be a prefect your child will need to obtain a certain amount of points.

Communication

• Please make an appointment through the office or by writing a note in your child’s diary.

• Teachers can be emailed as well.

• Please check your child’s diary daily for any notes from the teachers.

Sport

• It is compulsory for your child to do at least one summer and one winter sport.

• They need to attend all practices – if sick a note needs to be given to their coach first thing in the morning.

• If representing the school in a match/gala, they need to have the correct clothing.

• If something happens on the day of the match your child needs to tell their coach first thing in the morning, so a replacement can be found.

Hair• Boys neat and short – not touching the collar or ears.

Fringe may not touch their eye brows. No patterns may be cut into the hair.

• No gel or mousse.• Boys – no dreadlocks• Girls – tied up if touching the collar. Only black

accessories (clips, hair bands and Alice bands) No scrunchies . Fringe may not touch their eye brows.

• No hair extensions, dreadlocks, corn rows, patterns, braids, weaves or bonding wigs allowed.

• Only plaiting with own hair and no patterns.• No dying, tinting or highlighting of hair for both boys

and girls.

SUMMER GIRLS

Uniform

• Please ensure all uniform is marked clearly.

• Neat and tidy

• A name badge is worn on a daily basis.

After School

• After 2:00pm children are to be collected from Roseberry Ave.

• They may not hang around the shop.• All gates will be locked at 2:00pm and a guard is on duty

to release them.• NO children are allowed to be outside the school

grounds. This is for their SAFETY.• If they have no extra mural activities they are to go home

at 1:45pm.• Please ensure you know the times of their extra mural

activities to ensure transport can be arranged correctly.

Lunches

• Please try and encourage your child to eat healthier options. This can affect their concentration during class.

• The tuck shop is not allowed to sell sweets, chips etc. before school to try and help children live a healthier lifestyle.

Camps & Outings

• There will be a Grade 6 leadership camp taking place towards the end of the second term.

• There will be other day outings to Jonginenge and a farm to learn about ecosystems. The cost of these will be sent out soon.

• Children who constantly misbehave will not be allowed to go on outings.

• A letter with all the information for the outings will be sent home.

• There will be a due date set for payments it is imperative that we stick to those dates. No late payments will be accepted.
