Homework Choice Board #6 Dates: Dec. 10-Dec. 21 Moon Phase Transporter Visit http://bit.ly/2P3Lx4D for directions on how to create a Moon Phase Transporter. Materials: 8 ping-pong balls, A large foam poster-board, 8 medium screws, A box cutter, Strong flashlight (to represent the sun), The "sun" is optional, but can be placed on a ruler. Directions: Find the center of the board and strategically place eight balls around it in a circle. You can go the glueless route by sticking screws up through the board and pushing balls onto them. Mine are very secure. Once that is completed, cut a circle in the middle for viewing. You are now ready for the viewing. Using one student to hold the flashlight, two to hold the board, and one to get into the moon phase transporter, you can actually see the moon phases lit by the flashlight. For example, in the picture below, I can see the new moon and waxing crescent. The student, not the board, turns around to see the phases. Rotate students out, if you have time. Moon Phase Transporter

Visit http://bit.ly/2P3Lx4D for directions on how to create a Moon Phase Transporter.

    Movie Theatre Part 1

Create a movie theatre (using legos, stuffed animals, or anything else, get creative as you’d like) that will seat no more than 120 people. Your seats must be in rows and columns to create 2 separate arrays. Write a multiplication equation using the distributive property to represent how many seats are in your movie theatre. Will everyone be able to see the screen the way you’ve arranged your arrays? Is there an aisle and easy access to the emergency exits? Take a picture and email it to your teacher to share with the class!

    Plan a Thanksgiving Dinner

Plan a Thanksgiving dinner. How many people are coming? What dishes will you provide? Find the recipes and see how many people each dish serves. Will you need to double the ingredients? Look in your house to what you already have and don’t have, come up with a grocery list to plan your meal.

    Be the Teacher

Create a poster that explains the strategies we’ve learned for our multiplication facts: 3’s & 6’s, 2’s & 4’s, 9’s, 0’s and 1’s (identity property). This poster should be neat, large and colorful. Students posters could be used to put on our classroom wall for helpful reminders.

    Moon Phase Transporter
