Hello all! Myself Vishnu…I am a fifth year Pharm.D student, from National College of Pharmacy, Kozhikode, Kerala, India.

Anemia is defined as a condition, in which the NUMBER of RBCs/ the AMOUNTof HEMOGLOBIN( Oxygen-carrying protein) in RBCs is REDUCED

Types of anemia include:

a. IRON-DEFICIENCY ANEMIA

b. PERNICIOUS ANEMIA

c. SICKLE CELL ANEMIA

d. HYPOPROTEINEMIC ANEMIA

e. VITAMIN B12 DEFICIENCY ANEMIA

f. FOLIC ACID DEFICIENCY ANEMIA, etc. . .

Approximately 3 million Americans suffer from it

RBCs contain HEMOGLOBIN( An IRON-BASED PROTEIN, that helps blood cells carry oxygen)

When you are ANEMIC Your blood can’t deliver enough oxygen supply to your organs & tissues. . .

1. Heavy blood loss, during menstruation

2. Pregnancy

3. Ulcers

4. Intestinal disorders

5. Cancers

6. Bleeding disorders

7. Chronic diseases(like CKD)

8. Deficiency of IRON, FOLIC ACID, VITAMIN B12

1. OCULAR MANIFESTATIONS:

1. BEETROOT:

- Mainly useful in IRON DEFICIENCY ANEMIA

- High IRON content, along with fiber, calcium, potassium, Sulphur and vitamins

- Beetroot has 3 actions:

a. Provides nutrition

b. Cleanses body

c. Supplies more oxygen throughout the body, by INCREASING RBC COUNT

- Eat it in cooked form/ salad

- Another way includes:

BLEND 1 medium-sized beetroot, 3 carrots, and half sweet potato in a juicerdrink this juice once daily. . .

2. BLACKSTRAP MOLASSES:

- NUTRITIONAL POWERHOUSE

- Good source of IRON, VITAMIN B, and other essential minerals, that help increase RBC production

- 1 tbsp. of BLACKSTRAP MOLASSES Provides 15% of daily IRON NEEDS

- Combine 2 tbsp. each of blackstrap molasses & apple cider vinegar mix in a cup of water drink once daily

- For PREGNANT WOMEN:

Mix 1 tbsp. of molasses in a cup of HOT WATER/ MILK Drink once/ twice daily. . .

3. SPINACH:

- One of BEST HOME CURES FOR ANEMIA

- Spinach is rich in:

a. Iron

b. Vitamin B12

c. Folic acid

- Half cup of spinach provides:

a. 35% of daily iron needs

b. 33% of daily folic acid needs

- Consume it in the form of :

a. Spinach soup

b. Spinach juice

- For SPINACH SOUP:

Take a cup of blanched spinach add little water heat 1 tsp of EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL in a pan fry some chopped garlic cloves & onion, until it turns brown add (spinach+ water) combination into the pan add little salt cook for 10-15 minutes consume it twice daily. . .

- For SPINACH JUICE:

Take fresh spinach juice add 2 tsp. honey drink once daily. . .

- Follow either remedy for atleast 1 MONTH. . .

4. POMEGRENATE:

- Rich in iron, calcium, magnesium

- Pomegrenate also contains VITAMIN. C Improves body’s absorption of IRON Increases RBC count increases HEMOGLOBIN levels

- Consume it in the form of:

a. Eat medium sized pomegranate, every morning, on an empty stomach

b. Take 2 tsp. dried pomegranate seed powder, with a glass of warm milk consume once/ twice daily. . .

5. SESAME SEEDS:

- High IRON content

- One-fourth cup of sesame seeds provides 30% of daily iron needs

- Soak 2 tbsp. of black sesame seeds in water for 2-3 hours strain it make it into paste add 1 tbsp. of honey mix well consume twice daily. . .

6. DATES:

- Rich source of IRON & VITAMIN.C

- Consume it in the form of:

a. Soak 2 dates in a cup of milk overnight eat dates next morning, and consume the milk on an empty stomach

b. Eat some dry dates on an empty stomach in the morning follow it up with a cup of warm milk. . .

7. APPLE:- Rich in IRON

- Consume it as:

a. Eat one apple daily

b. Mix equal parts of fresh apple juice + beetroot juice + honey drink this juice twice daily. . .

8. BANANA:- Have 2 actions:

a. Bananas rich in IRON stimulates HEMOGLOBIN production, and ENZYMES, that help in RBC formation

b. Bananas rich in MAGNESIUM Helps in HEMOGLOBIN SYNTHESIS

- Consume it as:

a. Eat 1 ripe banana + 1 tbsp. honey twice daily

b. Mix 1 mashed banana + I tbsp. of AMLA JUICE Consume twice/ thrice daily. . .

9. DRIED BLACK CURRANT:

- Black currant(dried) has high concentration of IRON & VITAMIN. C Effective treatment for ANEMIA

- Soak 10-12 dried black currants in water overnight remove seeds from water the next morning eat them daily before breakfast follow this remedy for a few weeks. . .

10. FENUGREEK:

- High IRON content

- Also helps in NEW RBC PRODUCTION

- Both leaves & seeds are effective

- Consume it as:

a. Cook 1 cup of rice with 2 tsp. fenugreek seeds add some salt eat once daily for 2-3 weeks

b. Fenugreek leaves in soups/salads. . .

11. YOGURT:

- Eat 1 cup of plain yogurt, with 1 tsp of TURMERIC, on an empty stomach. . .

12. VITAMIN B12 SUPPLEMENTATION:

- Consume foods rich in VITAMIN B12, like:

a. Organic meats(kidney, liver)

b. Milk

c. Eggs

d. Cheese

e. Peanuts

f. Wheat germ

g. Soybeans

- Prevents and cures anemia. . .

13. SUNBATH:

- Having short sunbath stimulates RBC production treats anemia. . .

14. DANDELION ROOT:

- Dandelion root increases IRON LEVELS and VITAMINS

- Also aids in LIVER DETOXIFICATION

- Take 3-5 g of dandelion root a day. . .

15. SPIRULINA:

- Spirulina stimulates RBC PRODUCTION from BONE MARROW

- Take 2 g of spirulina daily. . .

1. Eat IRON-RICH FOODS, like:

a. Carrots

b. Beetroot

c. Grapes

d. Prunes

e. Steamed green vegetables(spinach, broccoli, kale)

2. Eat foods rich in VITAMIN.C, like:

a. Orange

b. Mosambi

c. strawberries

3. Drink CRANBERRY JUICE

4. Drink COPPER-WATER:

- COPPER Essential for IRON-UTILIZATION in BUILDING of HEMOGLOBIN

- Keep water in genuine copper glass/vessel overnight drink it in the morning

5. Do deep breathing & light exercises like WALKING & simple YOGA practices

6. Take COLD BATHS twice daily helps improve BLOOD CIRCULATION

7. Expose body to EARLY MORNING SUNLIGHT for 10 minutes daily

8. Include LENTILS and WHOLE GRAIN CEREALS in your diet

9.Having a warm water bath, with EPSOM SALT(MgSO4) few times a week, also helps

10. Cook your foods in IRON POTS, to increase IRON CONTENT. . .

1. Reduce drinking TEA & COFFEE

2. Avoid SODA( SODA Interferes with IRON ABSORPTION from food)

3. Avoid CHOCOLATE

4. Avoid BRAN(BRAN High in INSOLUBLE FIBER Traps and removes IRON during DIGESTION)

5. Avoid HOT, SPICY and FERMENTED FOODS. . .
