Woman's nipple bitten off in brutalattack, Sheriff's Office says
54
A bitter divorce almost turned deadly when a Deerfield Beach man violently attacked his
wife with a fireplace poker, bit off her nipple and threatened to kill her, according to the
Broward Sheriff's Office.
Robert Ruman, 55, is facing charges of attempted murder and aggravated battery with a
deadly weapon.
During a first-appearance court hearing Tuesday, he was ordered held without bond.
According to a Broward Sheriff's Office report, Ruman beat
his wife, Judy Ruman, in their home in the 400 block of
Southeast Fourth Street on Thursday until she managed to
escape to a neighbor's home and call police.
Robert Ruman was arrested after a nearly three-hour
SWAT standoff.
Judy Ruman told deputies that her husband was acting
bizarrely before the bloody rampage. She said he began to
beat her with his fists and struck her head with a wrought
iron fireplace poker, the report said.
During the violent struggle, he also bit her right nipple off
and caused lacerations and bruises on her back, torso, arms
and legs, the Sheriff's Office said. He threatened to kill her
and then himself, the report said.

The motive behind the beating: He didn't want a divorce,
the Sheriff's Office said.
Judy Ruman was taken to Broward Health North where
she spent two days in the intensive care unit before her
release Monday, said BSO Detective Holly Tucker, who
testified in court Tuesday.
"They were going through a very nasty, bitter divorce and prior to him committing the act he
stated, 'It's time to die,'" Tucker said. "Due to this, the victim stated to me, she said if she
wasn't able to escape the house at the time she did, she thought she was going to die."
The injuries to Judy Ruman's face and head required staples and sutures — some of them also
caused permanent disfigurement, the report said.
"The victim is in fear for her life if he is able to get out of jail," Tucker said.
Inside the home, investigators discovered a bloody scene with a trail of blood leading through
the living room, dining room and all the bedrooms, the report said.
The fireplace tools were recovered in the shower and the bathroom floor and sink were soiled
with blood. Bullets were found at the bottom of the commode, the report said.
A large knife and the two fireplace pokers that appeared to have been used during the beating
were placed into evidence, the Sheriff's Office said.
Broward County Judge John "Jay" Hurley ordered Robert Ruman have no direct or
indirect contact with his wife as the criminal case against him is pending.
Staff writer Maria Murriel contributed to this report.

Hmmm, couldn't imagine why his wife would want a divorce from this loser. Hope hiscellmate bites something off him while he's rotting in jail.
