Proposed Regulations Provide Companies Guidance to Avoid Penalties FARGO, NORTH DAKOTA — The IRS recently issued additional proposed
regulations that provides much needed guidance to companies as they plan their
approach to Health Care Reform compliance. The new rules state that the hours
employees work in 2013 will be used to determine how they are categorized for
health insurance purposes. What is important to understand is that a company’s
actions in 2013 can help them avoid penalties in 2014.
The Health Care Reform Act impacts every individual in the United States, as
they will be required to have insurance by Jan. 1, 2014. While this new law
impacts all businesses, large employers with 50 or more full-time equivalent
employees will be required to either provide affordable health insurance
coverage for all employees, pay defined penalties and send employees to a
Health Insurance Exchange to purchase insurance, or develop a new hybrid
health insurance plan.
