TOGETHER FOSTERING ACHIEVEMENT

SUMMER TERM: 19th June 2020

It has been great to welcome some of our Year 10 and Year 12 students back to school this week.

Year 10 students have had sessions in core subjects (English, Maths and Science) in the morning, as well as sessions for options subjects in the afternoon. Students have responded really well to the sessions, and although it has taken a bit of getting used to, we hope that the students have enjoyed having the opportunity to see their friends and to experience some face to face teaching.

Remember that you can email questions or comments to [email protected]

Year 10 Sessions in School

As you can see from the pictures, things look a little different in school as we work within the guidelines to help to keep our students and staff safe.

We would like to offer a few reminders for those Year 10 students who have started to attend sessions in school:

Sanitise or wash your hands on arriving at school and regularly throughout the school day

Maintain a 2 metre social distance at all times

If you are in the same room for the morning and afternoon sessions, you should be sat at the same desk

Bring the resources that you need e.g. pens, as you are asked not to share resources with other students

Bring your own lunch

If you have any of the symptoms of Coronavirus, please do not come into school. This also applies for those students who have someone in their household who is experiencing symptoms.

If you have not contacted us to say that you will be attending sessions, please do not turn up at school. We need to know accurate student numbers to plan for the sessions. If you wish to begin attending, please phone or email the school.

The Gallery

See below for some of the excellent work that our students have completed at home:

Students in Year 9 are reading the play

‘Kindertransport’ for English. The poster below

was one of the great examples produced by our

students to explore the idea of identity.

Albie I made a

wind turbine as

part of his home

learning for Design

Technology.

Mr Gregory was

extremely

impressed with

Gaia ‘s work

(Y8).

Year 7 students

have been

showing their

creativity with the

planter project.

Ms Ikhatalor liked

the Maths notes

that this student

has made. Notes

like these are

beneficial when

students need to

review work at a

later date.

School Refurbishments and Improvements

The Crush Hall has now been renamed ‘The Forest

Lounge’. The newly made banner has been put up and

there are now more sofas for our students to use in

order to enjoy the space (when they return).

(Designed by Mr Gregory)

We have also recently installed tiered seating in the Main

Hall, and look forward to using this for future

performances and assemblies. Stay tuned for updates on

further improvements including the new science lab,

freshly renovated classrooms and ICT improvements.

HOME LEARNING CHALLENGE

Can you be Platinum?

This week we have been trying to boost our work submission rates for all students across the school.

All of the home learning tasks are on Show My Homework (https://www.satchelone.com/login?subdomain=theforestacademy). We want to encourage as many pieces of work to be completed by each student as possible. Those that complete 100% of home learning tasks due that week and submit them on time can win a prize. The competition closes at 3pm each Monday and covers all tasks from the previous week (starting from the previous Monday).

The levels for the challenge are as follows:

Platinum – 100% of tasks are completed

Gold – 75%-99% of tasks are completed

Silver – 40%-74% of tasks are completed

Bronze – 1%-39% of tasks are completed

The competition runs every week so it doesn’t matter if students were Bronze last week as they could still win the competition and get a Platinum Award by submitting all of their tasks. Remember, tasks need to be submitted to their teacher in order to count. To submit they can upload work to SMHW, take pictures of work in books and upload to SMHW or send work to departmental email addresses displayed on the website or shown above. Prizes can be collected from reception and an e-mail will notify winners.

Good luck!

Social Media Are you following our social media accounts

for news, photos and updates?

Mazen—Y8, created a model to celebrate Captain

Tom’s 100th birthday and to recognise the fantastic

fundraising for the NHS.

YEAR 6 TRANSITION

For those with children in Year 6, there is a dedi-cated page on the school website regarding transition into Year 7. This will be updated with more information over the coming weeks. Admissions packs are currently being sent out to our new students, and we look forward to working with them during this term to prepare them for their transition to TFA. https://

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

This is Mr Ansell’s cat. She has a great balance of work

(mainly this involves begging for food), rest (as shown in

the picture) and play (chasing bees and wasps). We all

need to ensure that we get this balance right, so whilst we

obviously want to encourage you to work hard in your

home learning (or sessions in school for Year 10), please

remember to balance this with activities which will help to

support your mental and physical health and wellbeing.

LOCKDOWN HAIRCUTS!

Without access to a barber or a hairdresser, many of

us are having to take matters into our own hands.

We would love to see any examples of students (or

their parents / siblings) trying out their barbering/

haircutting skills. Please send any photos to

[email protected] - we are

happy to share impressive or disastrous results!
