ATTENTION ALTAR SERVERS New Altar Server Training begins on May 20, 2017.

Altar servers enhance the quality of liturgical celebra ons by serving the priest at Mass and other liturgies. This is a great way for young people to learn more about

Saturday, May 20 & 27. New servers are required to a end all training sessions, watch videos and be an observer at least twice in order to be commissioned to the ministry and serve at Mass. Parents, please walk your child into the first mee ng

and be prepared to stay for all of the 1st class. Ques ons? Call Mr. Yoshi Asanuma at 977-8956.

GET ON THE BUS MOTHER’S DAY PARISH OUTREACH COLLECTION

In honor of Mother’s Day, the PARISH OUTREACH

BASKET IN HAND COLLECTION on MAY 14TH supports the GET ON THE BUS PROGRAM’S annual event, uniting

children & families separated as a consequence of Crime. Every year, the program provides free

Transportation for children & their caregivers to the prison. Children receive a travel bag, photo with

their parent & meals for the day. On the return home, children are given a teddy bear with a letter from

their parent & post-event counseling. Regular parental visits demonstrates better

emotional & social adjustment & decreases the degree of juvenile delinquency for children.

Additionally, the rate of recidivism for parents decreases while families reuniting increases.

Thank you for your continued prayers & support

of the children left behind, the silent victims of crime.

Many exciting ministries are happening at

most fulfilling for women in our Parish family... the

Holy Spirit Women’s Guild! The next meeting

Is Thursday, May 4th @ 7:00PM in Room 3/4

Next weekend Father Dominc Savio Rajappa will be at Holy Spirit Church to present a mission appeal for Saint Joseph’s

Church at K.K. Pudur, in the Diocese of Chingleput, where he was born, studied, and was ordained by Bishop Casimir

Gnanadickman in the year 1992. Father Dominic is the administrator of St. Alphonsus Church and

the Veterans Hospital in Fresno. Father is originally from the village of K.K. Pudud in Kancheepuram Dt., Tamilnadu, India.

Father Dominic will celebrate the 25th year Anniversary of his priestly ordina on on May 6, 2017. He will share with you the

essen al responsibility of serving the very poor, needy and vulnerable people within the caste system in India. He will speak about his efforts to eradicate the caste system in his village which dehumanizes the people of God. The Diocese of Fresno will send

the funds donated by Holy Spirit Church to the Diocese of Chingleput directly to be deposited in the account of St. Joseph

Church which is extremely poor and disadvantaged. The contribu ons received from the second collec on will be

fix-deposited, from where the annual interest of 8 to 10 percent will be used to support the very poor parish of St. Joseph’s.

St. Joseph Church was established by the French Missionaries in 1896. In 1899, the MEP Fathers had developed a very dynamic

mission into a parish where many priests served the surrounding villages which resulted in the conversion of many Hindus to the

Catholic Faith. This village has 5,000 people, all of whom are Catholic.

Majority of the people in this village and surrounding areas are classified as low caste. Extreme poverty is the life situa on of

these people. If there is no work, there is no money and no food. The s gma of low caste is their state of life and because of this,

they are the most oppressed in the society. They are ill-treated by the upper caste people as well.

On the Silver Jubilee of his priestly ordina on, he assures you the funds contributed will provide food, clothing and the ability to build huts to children, students, widows, widowers and will be

u lized for the welfare of the poorest of the poor. Father Dominic is grateful for allowing him to celebrate his

Silver Jubilee in this way and for your kind help and for suppor ng his mission appeal on

Saturday, May 6th and Sunday, May 7th.

A BIBLICAL WALK THROUGH THE MASS Dr. Edward Sri

Based on the revised transla on of the Mass, this five-part program takes par cipants on an exci ng tour of the Liturgy as it explores the biblical

roots of the words and gestures we experience at Mass and explains their profound significance. See, perhaps

for the first me, why we say what we say and do what we do every week at Mass. The words and gestures will be seen in a new light, giving new life to the liturgical

experience.

CD OF THE WEEK: OVERCOMING THE NEW AGE MOVEMENT

In this inspiring tes mony, former new ager Ma hew Arnold describes his incredible journey from darkness into the light of Christ and His Church. He relates how as a magic

consultant & performer in the entertainment industry he came to the truth that set him free from the powers of the occult. Arnold’s

powerful tes mony helps to expose new age prac ces & their incompa bility with the meless teachings of Chris anity.

(Available in the Narthex in our kiosk)

It’s very clear from our next “person of the week” that some of our volunteers never get red of volunteering!

Al Owen has been volunteering at Holy Spirit before any of the buildings existed! Both Al and his lovely wife of

55 years, Mary Lu, are founding members of Holy Spirt and part of the building commi ee with Msgr. Logan. He was

Holy Spirit’s first ever Lector and s ll reads at the 8 am Mass. For 11 years he has coordinated the Chrism Mass.

Al is a member of the Men’s Club, an EM, he is on the Finance Council and whenever you hear the bells ringing

know that Al helps Bob Loutherback coordinate the ming for seasonal changes. You would think all that would keep

him busy, but he con nues to teach Na onal University a er a wonderful career as a teacher, principal and

superintendent. When you are at the Town Hall Mee ng this weekend, be sure to look out for Al as he has been

busy planning and collec ng all the informa on needed as we head into the future at Holy Spirit with more space and

more projects and of course we will al-ways need more volunteers! Thank you Al for all that you do we would be lost

without you! CONGRATULATIONS TO THOSE WHO MADE THEIR PROFESSION OF FAITH ON DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY:
