FAZtor ’s Notes By Fr. Arnold Zamora

Two banners still hang in the middle of our church, one bearing the year 1941 and the other 2016. Two banners reminding us that we just celebrated our 75th Anniversary at the school. I

realized that my diocese of origin in the Philippines was founded in the same year as our Holy Name School. That’s why you won’t see me next week, because I will be attending the 75th Anniversary of the Diocese of Tagbilaran, Bohol, Philippines. A few days before the 75th Anniversary of our school, I had a car accident and my car got totaled. I was too embarrassed to tell anyone because it was just a little over two years that my previous car was also totaled. I know the reaction would have been: Hah!!!, What??? Well, I was not at fault in either accident. The last time, I was hit by another car. This time, I hit another car making a left turn on a red light. After the accident, there was a moment when I asked God: “Why did you not save me?” Somehow, I heard him say to me: “Did I not just save you?” Even though my car was bad-ly damaged, being considered a total loss, God has saved my life and I came out of the car without a bruise or any scratches, just a little sensation as a result of the airbag that deflated. The following day I wrote an email to the at-fault Tesla driver: “Please know that I prayed for you today and I hope you are doing okay.” He respond-ed: “I’ve had you in my thoughts and in my prayers as well and I am glad the damage was just limited to the cars.” A woman and a man are involved in a car accident; it's a bad one. Both of their cars are totally demolished but amazingly neither of them is hurt. After they crawl out of their cars, the woman says, "So you're a man, that's interesting. I'm a woman. Wow, just look at our cars! There's nothing left, but fortunately we are unhurt. This must be a sign from God that we should meet and be friends and live together in peace for the rest of our days." The man replied, "I agree with you completely." "This must be a sign from God!" The woman continued, "And look at this, here's another miracle. My car is completely demolished but this bottle of wine didn't break. Surely God wants us to drink this wine and celebrate our good fortune." Then she hands the bottle to the man, the man nods his head in agreement, opens it and drinks half the bottle and then hands it back to the woman. The woman takes the bottle, immediately puts the cork back in and hands it back to the man. The man asks, "Aren't you having any?" The woman replies, "No. I think I'll just wait for the police." Lesson: Be serious to what you have committed!

It’s Commitment Sunday, our Stewardship Renewal Weekend! Today all parish families are asked to bring their Commitment Cards to Mass. During Mass, as a parish community, we offer God our gifts of time, talent, and treasure. Our goal is to be a Steward-ship Parish—a community who is noticeably committed to prayer, parish ministry, and generous financial support. All three are equally important. May God bless you as you make these commitments.

ANNUAL MASS FOR DECEASED PARISHIONERS November 2015-October 2016

October is Respect Life Month The 40 Days for Life Campaign tracks Biblical history, when God used 40 days periods to transform individuals, communities, and the entire world. From Noah in the flood to Moses on the mountains to the disciples after Christ’s res-urrection. It is clear that God sees the transformative value of His people accepting and meeting a 40 day challenge. During Lent 2017, we will join the whole country in this community-based campaign, through the use of a three-point program of : Prayer and Fasting; Constant Vigil; Community Outreach. St. John Paul II admonished the Church to “build a Cul-ture of Life”.

Sacramental Preparations Late registration ends this weekend for RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults), RCICY (Rite of Christian Initiation of Children and Youth), and Youth Confirmation.

Religious Education for Kindergarten to Eight Grade is held every Sunday, at 10:30AM to 12:00 Noon in the Pastoral Center. We enjoin parents, guardians, and grandparents to be at the 9:30AM Mass with their children. You may still register your chil-dren for these classes. Please see Sr. Cristina at the parish office, 1555 39th Avenue or call 415-664-8590. Thank you.

Spiritual Reading Books We are upgrading the libraries in the Pastoral Center, located in both the meeting room and the Mercy room. If you want to give away your spiritual reading books, copy-right year 2000 to the present, please give them to Sr. Cristina. Dated materials such as missal and magazines not included. Thank you for your generous sharing.

Lectio Divina on the Sunday Scripture Readings is becoming popular and well-received by a group of parishioners who gather every Tuesday at 10:00-11:00 AM in the Pastoral Center. This group reflection / faith sharing prepares us for the Sunday Liturgy. We encourage Lectors and catechists who are free on Tuesday mornings to make time for this formative session. All are welcome! Canossian Sisters We are women, fascinated by the Greatest Love of the Crucifies One. We share life and prayer with one anoth-er as we journey, in humility and charity, with all, following the spir-ituality of St. Magdalene of Canossa. We share this Charism of Charity with the Lay Canossians, men and women who find them-selves in a wide variety of ecclesial and social settings, responding to the emergent needs of the poor and the vulnerable. Together we give our creative response to the Gospel’s challenge. We are com-mitted to make Jesus known and loved! For more information contact Sr. Cristina. Thank you.

Holy Name School Newsletter October 25, 2016 Dear Holy Name families, Thank you so much for all your participation and support in making this year's Fright Fest a success. A big thank you to our chair, Lily Hui, for leading the event and to the many parents who formed the committee and ran the various booths. My parents came by the event, and they were blown away by the sense of community at Holy Name. Thank you for being such an amazing group of parents for us to part-ner and work with us. We truly are lucky to have you at Holy Name! This Sunday, October 30th, our parish is hosting their Stewardship Sunday Mass. We would love to have all of our families attend with our students in uniform. Please help us to support our parish as we embark on a new journey of increasing our faith life and service opportunities! Next week is Halloween! We hope you all can join us for Monday's CatWalk right after morning assembly. Children should come to school in their costumes- please make sure that students are in appropriate costumes with no fake weapons. Given current circum-stances with clowns, we ask that children and parents refrain from clown costumes this year. Thank you for your understanding. Tardy Reminder: We have noticed that more and more students are beginning to be tardy. Just a reminder of what to do if your child is tardy: If your child is tardy and we are still outside please make sure that your child joins us for morning assembly. If you arrive after the students have entered, please check in at the main office. Once your child receives a tardy slip we ask that your child goes to his or her class on her own so that they can get started with their morning routine. Parent Teacher Conferences are quickly approaching! This year we are asking that parents sign up online. Just a quick reminder of our upcoming basketball tryouts:

October 30th 6th Grade- 2-3:30PM 7th Grade- 3:30-5PM 8th Grade- 5-6:30PM

November 5th (Originally scheduled for October 25th) 3rd Grade- 3:30-5PM 4th Grade- 5-6:30PM 5th Grade- 6:30-8PM

I am sorry: Lastly, you all should have received a hard copy letter from me in this week's newsletter. I know that I have not been able to be as prompt with email so far this year, and I wanted to acknowledge this. Please know that I am sorry for my delayed responses and look forward to having more time to regularly check email once again. If there is ever something that needs an immediate reply please do not hesitate to contact the office and let them know that you need an an-swer from me that day- they will leave a note on my door that I will most likely see first. Again, I am sorry for not being able to get back to all of you- I know this needs immediate change, and I promise it will happen!

Thanks, Natalie Cirigliano, Principal
