From the Garden

The garden has been planted—tomatoes, okra, yellow squash, cucumbers, pepper, green beans and zinnias are on their way! The Jammers & Canners have been making strawberry jam and will be making plum jelly in the coming weeks followed by peach, blueberry, elderberry and apple.. If you can help with weeding, picking, or selling of produce, it would be so appreciated. We always need sugar, Suregel and 1/2 pint jars. If you would like to “join in the fun,” we would love to have you. We meet every Wednesday at 10:00am. No experience needed—we will teach you. We laugh a lot and enjoy “sampling” the “fruits of our labor.” Come join us: Pam Bell, 914-6674; Virginia Roberson, 441-6699; Karen Lehr, 552-2566.

Security Training

It is unfortunate that in the world we live we must be concerned with security in our place of worship. Fr. Deasy, the Office Staff, Pastoral Council, and concerned parishioners have been working together to come up with a plan to make Holy Infant as safe as humanly possible. Our security goal is to prevent bad situations instead of just responding to them. Our first step in this endeavor is security training; learning what to look for and learning what to do to prevent a situation from escalating. Chuck Bradford from the Trussville Police, will be here 12:30pm, Sunday, June 10 for security training. All interested adults are invited to attend.

Altar Servers are needed at the 5:00pm Saturday Mass. If you can help as a server at the Saturday Mass, even just for the summer, please contact Karen in the Parish Office, 205-655-2541.

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

It is time for our special collection for the Mission Cooperative Appeal. The collection will be taken up on the weekend of June 23 and 24. The heartfelt generosity that you have always given to the missions is greatly appreciated by those who are less fortunate. I hope we can make this year’s appeals a very successful one. Pope Francis often speaks about call to be missionary disciples. Helping the Missions is a way to fulfill that call.

A quote from Pope Francis: “Jesus is ‘the evangelizer par excellence and the Gospel in person.’ His solicitude, particularly for the most vulnerable and marginalized, invokes all of us to care for the frailest and to recognize his suffering countenance, especially in the victims of new forms of poverty and slavery. The Lord says: ‘I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’ The mission of the Church, herself a pilgrim in the world and the Mother of all, is thus to love Jesus Christ, to adore and love him, particularly in the poorest and most abandoned; among these are certainly migrants and refugees, who are trying to escape difficult living conditions and dangers of every kind.”

This year the funds received from this collection will directly help support the following participating groups: Diocese of Warangal, India; Diocese of Kumba, Cameroon, Africa; Diocese of Irinjalakuda, India; and Diocese of Miri, Malaysia.

These mission projects will benefit equally from the collection taken up in the parishes. This is our way of showing our care and support for the foreign missions.

Blessing to you and your families.

Gratefully yours in Christ,

Most Reverend Robert J. Baker, S.T.D. Bishop of Birmingham in Alabama

The Totus Tuus summer catechetical program is a week-long “parish mission” for Catholic youth in grades 1 through 12. It is dedicated to sharing the Gospel and promoting the Catholic faith through evangelization, catechesis, Christian witness, and Eucharistic worship.

Totus Tuus provides an environment in which the Eucharist is central to the day. Prayer provides the structure, but the Mass is truly the “source and summit” of the daily schedule.

Totus Tuus inspires young people to go to Jesus Christ through Mary by meditating on the mysteries of the rosary.

Totus Tuus instructs young people in the basic tenets of the Catholic faith to cultivate both a firm intellectual grounding and a solid personal relationship with Christ.

Totus Tuus encourages young people to begin discerning God’s call in their life to be married, a priest, a religious, or single.

Totus Tuus demonstrates that one can be a faithful, practicing Catholic and still have fun!

Totus Tuus will dive deep into the Luminous Mysteries of the Rosary: Baptism in the Jordan, Wedding at Cana, Proclamation of the Kingdom of God, Transfiguration, Institution of the Eucharist

Totus Tuus, a Latin phrase meaning “totally yours,” was the motto of Blessed Pope John Paul II. Taken from St. Louis de Montfort’s work, True Devotion to Mary, it signifies our desire to give our-selves entirely to Jesus Christ. It also expresses our effort to give all that we have to every young person we encounter.

Totus Tuus seeks to inspire in young people a true longing for holiness, a deep desire for daily conversion, and an open-ness to their vocation by challenging them to give themselves entirely to Jesus Christ by continually strengthening their prayer lives .
