FIRST SATURDAY DEVOTION - will take place on Saturday, June 2 beginning with Confession from 7:30 – 8:00 am, Mass in the main church at 8:15 am, followed by 15 minutes of reflection on the mysteries of the Rosary, and finally the Rosary itself at 9:00 am. All are welcome!

This Monday, May 21 - the Monday after Pentecost, the Catholic Church marks a new Marian celebration in the liturgical calendar. In a decree dated February 11, 2018, Cardinal Robert Sarah, prefect of the Congre-gation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, announced that “Pope Francis has de-creed that the Memorial of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of the Church, should be inscribed in the Ro-man calendar on the Monday after Pentecost and be celebrated every year.” Understanding that Mary is the Mother of the Incarnate Word, Jesus, she can also be considered the Mother of all the faithful who are joined to the Mystical Body of Christ, which is the Church. St. John Paul II wrote, “In addressing the words ‘Woman, behold your son,’ to Mary, the Cruci-fied One proclaims her motherhood not only in rela-tion to the apostle John but also to every disciple.” In the Dogmatic Constitution on the Church, Lumen Gen-tium, from the Second Vatican Council, the Holy Fa-ther, Pope Paul VI in union with the bishops ex-plained that after Mary’s Assumption into heaven, “by her constant intercession,” she cares for us “who still journey on earth surrounded by dangers and dif-ficulties” until we are led to our “true home” in heav-en. In a special way, this new Memorial is linked to Pentecost because, as Cardinal Sarah explains, “the mystery of Mary’s spiritual motherhood, which from the awaiting of the Spirit at Pentecost has never ceased to take motherly care of the pilgrim Church on earth.” He goes on to say that the pope hopes that this new memorial will help us root our spiritual lives “firmly on the three great realities: the Cross, the Eu-charist, and the Mother of God.” And so, this feast affords us a special opportunity to celebrate in a for-mal way, liturgically, Mary’s maternal care for each of us and as a family of faith, the Church. God bless you! Fr. Bob
