“Pastor’s Weekend Message”
“Let my prayer come into your presence; incline
your ear to my cry for help, O Lord.” Psalm 88 (87):3
In today’s Gospel, Jesus contrasts the behavior of the rich
people with a poor widow. He used the occasion of peo-
ple depositing donations in the Temple treasury to point
out to the disciples a very important lesson about true
love. According to Jesus, it meant nothing for the people
who had great wealth to give large amounts to the treas-
ury. They were, in effect, giving from what they had left
over. In contrast though, the poor widow, who was among
the poorest, gave all she had to live on. We don’t know
what became of her, but she had great trust to be able to
share despite her uncertain future. Jesus tells us that she
gave from the little she had. It was a real act of generosi-
ty, a real act of love. How generous are we with our re-
sources, our time, our treasure or the gifts and talents that
the Lord has bestowed on us? Christianity is about giving
back, sharing with those in need, loving our neighbor and
trusting that God will take care of us. Sometimes our love
can be a selfish love. We receive, but we don’t give any-
thing back. Do we really TRUST in God’s providence for
us? We must love in a spirit of sacrifice. The Gospel chal-
lenges us to give more of ourselves out of love for the
Lord and others. Little things given out of selfless love
shows to true face of love. Let us be generous in all that
we have for the Lord will reward us with greater bless-
ings. I ask you to continue to be generous with your gifts
for Holy Family and our community. As we prepare for
the Year of Mercy, let us continue to pray for all in need
of God’s mercy, reconciliation, forgiveness and love.
Blessings in the Lord, Fr Juan, Pastor
“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the
kingdom of heaven”. Matthew 5:3
reconciliación y a perdón.
