Church Picnic 2019 On what was the last day of a heatwave with temperatures close to 90° at mealtime, this

Family of God at Beaver gathered following worship service in the pavilion for our annual

Church Picnic. Although very hot and humid, the Good Lord provided us with a very nice

breeze … and fans! Hot dogs and hamburgers along with a variety of side dishes and

desserts were enjoyed by those who attended. The kids ventured out of the shade of the

pavilion to partake in a few lawn games. It was an enjoyable afternoon of fine food and fellowship. We thank

the Fellowship Committee for organizing the event!

For the Love of Lois On Saturday, June 1, several members of Beaver Lutheran Church traveled to Hershey

to participate in the “Walk to Defeat ALS” as part of Lois Lark’s team, “Lark’s Angels”.

Those attending from Beaver were: Greta Wagner, Chloe Wagner, Leslie and Joe

Feehrer, Sara Mattern, Stephanie, Samantha and Lana Plummer, Bobbi Leister, Teresa

Hoffman, Annette Kuhns, Lynn Kuhns, Rich Mattern, and Pastor Matthew Schuster.

Lois had the honor of cutting the ribbon at the beginning of the walk, as her team rose

the most money for the organization. As of June 24, the Team rose $20,149, which

was 403 percent of her original $5,000 goal!

Following the walk, Lark’s Angels was awarded the Team Spirit Award! Members of

her team wore special Team T-shirts and halos. Many from Beaver wore angel wings as well! Lois’ brother

Leonard was the cheerleader for the group, cheering the entire two-mile route.

Sadly, on July 6, Lois lost her fight with ALS. Friends and family gathered at the home of Rich Mattern to cele-

brate her life on Friday, July 19. A funeral mass was held at St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church in Selinsgrove

on the 20th. Blessed be the memory of Lois A. Lark.

Cards of Thanks Dear Friends – Thank you so much for

your thoughts, prayers, cards and

gifts. All are appreciated. Delilah is

doing well since her transplant and continues to

heal. Thank you for your continuing prayers as we

move through this process. – Kelly, Mike and Deli-

lah Worthington

Dear Congregation – Thank you for your generous

donation of $1,000 through Raise the Region. From

January 1 – May 31 we assisted 79 people find in-

come and housing. We filled 305 food baskets as-

sisting 462 adults and 340 children. Your support of

our shelter and food pantry is greatly appreciated –

Move to Grayson View Please keep Joan Snook in your pray-

ers as she is now residing at Grayson

View. Her address is: 29 Grayson View

Court, Room 230, Selinsgrove, PA

17870-8347.

It certainly was nice to see Joan in church on Sun-

day, July 14th!! We hope she will be able to worship

with us again!

Blanket Sunday Blanket Sunday is fast approaching

– October 6! All donations go to

Lutheran World Relief who works

closely with its overseas partners to

determine items to donate. Keeping

quilt and blanket sizes consistent helps its overseas

partners plan properly for distributing a shipment

and keeps international shipping processes cost-

effective and efficient. Consistency ensure recipi-

ents are treated equally and fairly, which is im-

portant for those who have already experienced a

great deal of injustice or tragedy.

If you would care to make a Mission Quilt or Tied

Fleece Blanket, instruction sheets are located on

the bulletin board in the hallway outside the church

office. Tied fleece blankets require no sewing and

can be a fun group project!

If purchasing blankets, try to keep sizes around 60”

x 80”. A twin or twin XL works for this.

Altar Flowers There are still a few opportunities to

purchase altar flowers this year. The

next open date is September 1. De-

cember has openings on the 1st and

8th. The flower chart is located in the

narthex, or you may call the church office at 570-

658-2001.

Summer Music If you would like to share your musical

talents with us in August, we would

love to hear you! Please contact

Michelle Bixler.

Sexton Vacation Our Sexton and Groundskeep-

er, Lisa Wagner, will be on va-

cation from August 26 through
